Chapter 2

Hermione woke up with Fred's arm around her like usual. She didn't want Fred to know about her meeting Ron today. She felt bad about not telling him but knew it was best to not tell him at all. Fred's arm tightened around Hermione's waist and he sighed. "Good morning beautiful," he whispered into her ear. "Morning," she whispered back. "What time is it?"

"Ten minutes 'til the shop opens."

"Time to get ready for work," Fred said and got up from the bed. Hermione stared at Fred and found herself staring at him. He was wearing his boxers as he tried to find a pair of pants and decent shirt to wear under the magenta work robes. Fred began putting his pants on and Hermione watched with a dreamy gaze. Fred looked at Hermione as he found a belt and put it around the loops of his pants. "Enjoy what you're seeing, Granger," Fred said grinning. Hermione's face filled with blush and she grinned back,"Maybe." "You know you like this," Fred winked and walked to the bed, pulled Hermione up and began to kiss her.

Hermione's hands moved from Fred's neck to down his chest and back up to his neck once again. Fred held Hermione closer to him. He broke the kiss and stared at her. They both smiled at each other. Hermione at that moment didn't want to do anything except stay in this moment with Fred.

"Three minutes, Freddie! Are you ready?" George called.

"Yeah. Be out in a minute," Fred called back.

He kissed Hermione on the forehead, slipped on a shirt, grabbed some socks and shoes and left the room. Hermione sighed. She didn't want to go meet Ron but she had to do it. She stood up from the bed and proceeded to the kitchen.

Hermione made pancakes and eggs, savoring the taste of syrup and the fluffy cake. Her eyes glanced at the clock which read 9:30 a.m. I got plenty of time, she thought calmly.

Hermione stood up and went to the sink, rinsing the dishes and washing them without the use of magic. She didn't use magic because she needed time to think. All Hermione could think about was meeting Ron today, wondering why he would want to talk to her and the choice she made on accepting Fred's proposal of marriage. Absentmindedly she put each dish that was now clean onto the dish rack and dried her hands with a sigh. She now walked to her and Fred's room, grabbing some jeans and a dark blue v-neck to change into after her shower. With her clothes in hand, she walked to the towel drawer, grabbed two towels and marched into the bathroom.

****************************************************

Hermione now had on her clothes and her hair was dried. Walking into the room to grab some socks and her black converse she saw the time read 10:45 a.m. She sighed, sitting on the bed, and took her time. She made sure her socks were alright and tied the laces of her shoes making sure it wasn't too tight or too loose. She walked back to the bathroom with her brush and two hair ties in hand. Setting down the ties, she brushed her hair and pulled her hair into a ponytail. She smiled at herself in the mirror and saw Archimedes looking at her. "How do I look?" Hermione asked the owl. The owl looked at her and hooted once. She laughed and grabbed some treats from the kitchen for her little companion. The owl happily ate his treats and Hermione let him stay on her hand. "Want some fresh air?" she asked the owl. Archimedes opened his wings slightly as his answer. Hermione smiled at the owl as she opened the window to let her owl out for a few hours. Closing the window she saw the clock again. It was an hour until she had to go meet Ron. She wordlessly summoned a quill, some ink and a piece of parchment then began her note to Fred explaining her absence.

Fred, my darling,

I've gone out to Flourish and Blotts to look at some books and to possibly inquire about a job there. Be back later! I love you.

Xoxo,
Hermione

She read through her note twice and put it on the table in the kitchen. She grabbed her cloak and checked herself once more in the mirror. She wore her ring, like always and was pleased with how she looked. Walking down the stairs she entered the shop and exited the joke shop promptly.

It didn't take long for Hermione to get to Flourish and Blotts and she immediately saw Ron. He saw her as well and approached his ex-girlfriend. "Thought you'd get here early," Ron smiled half-heartedly. Hermione chuckled and she side-hugged the youngest Weasley male. "What is it you want to talk to me about, Ronald?" Hermione asked immediately. "Let's take a walk down to The Leaky Cauldron and I'll tell you 'Mione." Hermione showed slight discomfort at being called 'Mione by her former love.

I know you think that I shouldn't still love you,

Or tell you that.

But if I didn't say it, well I'd still have felt it

where's the sense in that?

"Why him? I mean, you and I have gone through a lot together while Fred and you haven't. Remember when you told me at the Yule Ball I should have gotten the courage to ask you and not as a last resort?," Hermione nodded as they walked past the shops towards the pub,"To this day I feel bad about it still just like when we were hunting for horcruxes and I left you and Harry. Harry told me how me leaving affected you," Hermione was getting misty eyed now,"I realized I shouldn't have left you both...especially you, Hermione. It felt like a part of me was missing when I wasn't with you. Hearing your voice call my name through the Deluminator made me hopeful that I'd be brought back to you,"Ron stuck his hands in his pockets, remembering the memories he now talked about,"It did bring me back to you and Harry. After that I realized I couldn't be away from you," Ron said sincerely. He opened the door for Hermione to enter now that they were at The Leaky Cauldron. They entered and sat in one of the booths. Ron pulled out his wand and silently casted the Muffliato charm upon the room so no one could hear their conversation. Hermione looked at Ron and she saw a look of regret upon his face as he shook his head. "I should have proposed to you. I should be the one you're about to marry, not him!"

Hermione wasn't understanding Ron's words and actions. She saw him with another woman that night, she saw him in here a year ago with Lavender as his wife and lastly at the night of her marriage proposal with a hugely pregnant Lavender. He left her through a note, the coward's way out. And now this? "I don't understand. I don't understand at all why you'd tell me this now, Ronald. Of all times, you tell me now," Hermione's anger seething.

"It's because I love you Hermione. Not her, you. I was a stupid git. Please, give me a second chance," Ron pleaded with her.

Hermione now felt torn between two Weasleys. She loved Fred and she loved Ron. Part of her told her to go back to Ron and that he was the perfect match for her. The other part told her to stay with Fred, Ron had made his choice and that at Fred's side is where she truly belonged.

Ron saw Hermione deep in thought biting her lower lip.

I will go down with this ship

And I won't put my hands up and surrender

There will be no white flag above my door

I'm in love and always will be

"I don't know,"Hermione shook her head,"You're married and now have a child with her while I'm about to get married to your brother."

"'Mione, I've loved you. I've always loved you. We both know this. Ever since we were kids I've loved you and you've loved me. Please Hermione. One last chance. That's all I'm asking,"Ron pleaded.

"Explain to me why you put in that note that you don't love me anymore and why you were with another girl that night. If you can explain then I might give you a second chance. If you can't, then don't bother speaking to me ever again!" Hermione crossed her arms over her chest, waiting for Ron's explanation if he was going to give one.

I know I left too much mess and

destruction to come back again

And I caused nothing but trouble

I understand if you can't talk to me again

And if you live by the rules of "it's over"

then I'm sure that that makes sense

Ron began to think. He couldn't tell Hermione the truth. It'd hurt her too much. It was his best bet to lie. He must stick to the first one he said about Lavender being only a friend. The rest he was going to make up on the spot.

"Hermione, she was only a friend. She needed someone to comfort her. As for the note, I needed some space. Things were hectic in the office with Harry," Ron lied smoothly.

Hermione began to shed some tears,"Why didn't you tell me? I would have listened."

"I didn't know how to tell you."

Hermione knew Ron never had a way with words and forced a smile. It was silent as Hermione had an internal debate.

Maybe he has changed... He loves you. What about Fred? Ron is right. You and Fred aren't meant for each other; You and Ron are a perfect match!!! No. He left me and got married! He's now got a child with his wife, Lavender!! He said he doesn't love Lavender. What if he is lying to you? Don't believe a word he says! He wouldn't lie about loving you. He would! He's jealous of his brother. He wants you back because he knows you are going to wed his brother. No...he wants me back because he loves me.

A voice brought Hermione out of her argument,"Hermione? I've got to go back to work. My lunch break is over. See you tomorrow?"

"Umm, I'll owl you tonight," Hermione said. Both rose from the booth and embraced. Ron kissed Hermione's cheek. "I love you," he whispered. "You too," Hermione choked out. They went their separate ways; Ron to the ministry and Hermione to Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes.

I will go down with this ship

And I won't put my hands up and surrender

There will be no white flag above my door

I'm in love and always will be

Hermione resumed the internal argument as she mindlessly walk back to the twin's joke shop. She needed help on this matter... Was she making the right choice by not marrying Ron and becoming Fred's wife or was she making a mistake? Was she going to be happy with her future with Fred or Rom? She didn't know how to answer those questions. Who could help her answer those questions? One person went to her mind and without hesitation apparated to Ginny and Harry's house. Ginny greeted her friend warmly,"Hey Hermione, what's up?" "Gin, I need your help," Hermione said tightly. "What's wrong?" Ginny asked as she walked closer to her friend. "Ron wants me back."
