"Wake up Toire!! Wake up!!" he yelled as he jumped on my stomach.
"Freddy, stop," I said, burying my head into the pillow.
"Toire, I'm hungry," Freddy said, sitting down next to me. I cracked my eyes open to look at the tan skinned boy.
"So go to the Great Hall with James," I said.
"James isn't here," Freddy said. "I don't know where he is."
"He's not here?" I said, sitting up like a bullet. I looked next to me and saw that James was no longer fast asleep. "Where is he?"
"I don't know," Freddy said.
"Shit, shit, shit," I said. I had lost my cousin. Sure, I lost him in our school but still, if anything happened to him, Aunt Ginny would murder me.
"Shit, shit, shit," Freddy said, copying me.
"Don't say that, Fred," I said.
"Shit," Freddy said again, with a big grin on his face.
"Fred," I said, turning on my mother voice. "Don't say that. It's a bad word."
"SHIT!" Freddy yelled at the top of his lungs. Fortunately, all his roommates were gone and weren't hearing the horrible words coming from his mouth.
"Oi! Don't say that Fred!" Teddy's voice boomed from the door as he walked in with James over his shoulder.
"Sorry Teddy," Freddy said.
"Are you fuc-" I started saying only to be interrupted by Teddy.
"Anyway," Teddy said, shooting me a glare for almost swearing in front of Fred (again). "James here said that I needed to wake you up, Vic. He wanted us to go to breakfast."
"Dom too!" James yelled. "Family breakfast!"
"Okay," I said. "Just let me get dressed first."
"No! I'm hungry now Toire!" Freddy said.
"Well I need to change Freddy," I said. "I'm still wearing the same clothes I wore last night. Why don't the three of you go over to the Ravenclaw tower and tell Dom that we're doing family breakfast?"
"You'll meet us there?" Freddy asked with wide brown eyes, almost as if he thought I was going to run away.
"Yeah," I said, ruffling his hair. "I'll meet you there."
I got out of James's bed and walked over to Teddy and pulled James off of his shoulder.
When did this kid get so heavy?!
"Remember what your mum said about climbing on people James," I said as I put him on the ground, slightly out of breath.
I'm in great shape.
It must be all that exercise I do.
Oh, wait. I don't exercise.
"But Ted doesn't mind!" James protested.
"Yeah, well do you want your mum to yell at you if she finds out?" I asked him and saw his eyes go wide.
There were only two things James was afraid of: Voldemort and his mother.
Which is understandable. When Ginny gets angry she's rather frightening.
"Now go to the Ravenclaw tower!" I commanded. Freddy and James ran out of the room but Teddy hung back.
"Vic, I need to talk to you," he said.
"You should probably get down there and make sure they don't break anything," I said, heading out of the room. "Or get lost."
"No, Vic," he said, grabbing my arm and turning me around. "I really need to talk to you."
"Look whatever it is, it can wait ten minutes okay?" I said. "Unless it has something to do with someone dying, getting hurt or something in the family, it can wait. So did someone die?"
"No," Teddy said, and I could tell he was getting pissed off that I wasn't listening to him.
"Did someone get hurt?"
"Did something happen with my family?"
Teddy locked his jaw and said, "No."
"Then it can wait. I need to go change and you need to go make sure my cousins don't wreak havoc on the school," I said and turned away from him.
I was mad at him. It was dumb to be, but I was. How is he able to go from almost kissing me to dancing (and according to my lovely best friend almost dating) another girl? It's not fair.
Has he heard my family talk about us?
Even my over protective uncles think we're getting married.
Uncle Ron has stopped eating once to tell me that I need to just pull a Hermione and run up to him and kiss him. He stopped eating to tell me that. That doesn't happen often.
I don't think you understand what a big deal that is.
He. Stopped. Eating.
As in he pulled the food away from his face to tell me to kiss a boy.
I nearly had a heart attack when that happened. Not only was my uncle who was always eating as if his life depended on it not eating, but also I was getting told to kiss a boy when I was used to being told that I had to wait until I was 50 to date.
It was a very big milestone in my life.
I walked into my dorm and saw, surprisingly, that both Madison and Gabrielle were in there. Madison was sitting on her bed, looking through a magazine while Gabrielle rambled on and on about something or other.
"It was just such an amazing night!" Gabrielle finished, with a huge smile on her face as she walked into the bathroom.
"Sounds like it," Madison said monotonously as she flipped through the magazine. She looked up when she heard me walk in the room. "Hey Tori."
"Hi," I said as I walked to my bed.
"You're just getting in?" she asked. "What did you meet some amazing boy who made a mess upon your innocence?"
"Yeah, I met this amazing guy who brought me back to his dorm and had his way with me," I said, sarcastically.
"Tori, you whore!" Madison said, laughing.
"You know me," I said. "I'm a Veela, therefore all the boys want me. I'm just too nice to say no."
Madison snorted. "So where were you really?"
"What? You don't believe that I could've actually met some amazing boy and went back to his dorm with him?" Madison looked at me disbelievingly. "Yeah, I wouldn't believe that either. I was in James and Freddy's room."
"Did James have another nightmare?" Madison asked.
I nodded. "He went to Teddy's room looking for him but when he couldn't find him he came down to the party." I pulled a new shirt over my head. "I'm just glad that he was able to find me."
"Did he find Teddy?" he asked.
"Yeah," I said and looked in the mirror debating doing something with my hair or leaving it as the mess it was. "He did." I said it harsher than necessary as I thought back to him with Gabrielle. Honestly out of all the girls in the Gryffindor tower and he had to be dancing with my best friend.
I hate my life.
"You sound pissed off about that," Madison said. "What happened?"
I turned around and leaned against the vanity table that was in front of the mirror. "He was dancing with Gabrielle."
"It gets better," I said. "She called herself his almost girlfriend."
"Shit," Madison said. "I'm sorry, Tori. But I bet it didn't mean anything. You know how she is, she meets some guy at a party and claims that she's in love with him only to not remember his name the next day. It's probably not a big deal."
"I know," I said. "It's just annoying because he almost kissed me yesterday and now-"
"Tor! You're back!" Gabrielle said, running out of the bathroom and hugging me. "Is James okay?"
"He's fine," I said, confused. Normally, Gabrielle could care less about my family and got annoyed whenever I brought them up.
"Just another nightmare?" she asked concerned
"Um, yeah," I said and shared a look of confusion with Madison. "Shit," I said, seeing that 20 minutes had passed. "I have to go."
"Bye Tor!" Gabrielle yelled at me. "Have fun at your family breakfast!"
I instantly stopped when I heard her say that. I hadn't mentioned that I was going to family breakfast.
How the hell did Gabrielle know that?
"How did you know it was a family breakfast day?" I asked her and turned around.
"Oh, Teddy told me," Gabrielle said. Suddenly, she gasped and put a hand to her mouth. "I can't believe I forgot to tell you!"
"Tell me what?" I asked, tentatively. But I knew. A part of me knew exactly what the answer was.
I was just hoping that it was something different.
Please let it be something different, please let it be nothing-
"I got a boyfriend!" Gabrielle said, excitedly. I felt my heart lurch at that but continued praying that it wasn't Teddy. "Guess who?"
Please don't let it be Teddy.
Okay, so not technically, but still.
And I don't want to share him with anyone, especially not Gabrielle.
"Um, Scott?" I asked, hopefully.
Gabrielle had a look of disgust on her face. "Ugh, why would I date that douche bag again? I already wasted 10 months of my life on him. My new boyfriend is much, much better than Scott."
"Oh," I said. Not Teddy, not Teddy.
Maybe if I just repeat that in my head than it will be true.
Not Teddy. Not Teddy. Not Teddy. Not-
"Fine I'll just tell you!" Gabrielle said, beaming with happiness.
Come on Merlin, I know that we have this relationship where you make everything in my life go wrong but can you please just, make it so that Gabrielle is with someone else? Please? I'll love you forever. I will never say a bad thing about you again.
"It's Teddy!" she practically screamed.
Fuck you Merlin.
Go. To. Hell.
I was livid. I was so pissed off. Maybe it was because the full moon was in a week or because of the Weasley temper or whatever. But I was so pissed off at Teddy and Gabrielle dating.
Just thinking that makes me want to punch a wall.
Did I dream that he was about to kiss me? And that he called beautiful?
Yesterday, he disagreed with every word Gabrielle said. He basically told me that she was a bitch because she said that to me.
And now he's fucking dating her.
He probably lied to me. He probably thinks that I'm a disgusting klutz who isn't nearly as sophisticated as Gabrielle.
But honestly, what is so fucking great about her, anyway?
She's my best friend, but, as proven yesterday, she's a down right bitch.
She treats all her friends like shit. She's not a nice person. She is very judgmental.
But let's face it, she puts out.
And guys tend to only think with one thing.
Their little brain.
And their little brain never wants the Veela.
The irony kills me.
I stomped through the halls, fighting every nerve that told me to walk up to Teddy and kick him in his little brain. I had to act all happy and such for Gabrielle but managed to avoid getting all the details. Thank Merlin. I was ready to punch her in the face and if she told me about how she and Teddy came together, I would've have let my "disgusting and unattractive temper" out.
"Finally!" James yelled as I came into sight. He, Freddy, and Dom were standing with The Rat Bastard outside of the Ravenclaw dorms.
I like the name The Rat Bastard.
That is his new name.
Dom ran up to me and hugged me. "I haven't seen you in forever, Toire!"
I laughed and hugged her back. Leave it to my adorable sister to calm me down, even in the slightest. "I just saw you two days ago, Dommy."
"That's too long. Can you move to the Ravenclaw House?" she asked me, her blue eyes wide.
"No matter how badly I want to I can't," I said. "And trust me, I would love to move to your dorms."
And get away from Gabrielle and The Rat Bastard.
Because they both suck.
"She wouldn't leave me, Dom," James said. "I'm her favorite."
"No you're not!" Dom yelled. "I am! I'm her sister!"
"Well that doesn't matter because I'm still her favorite!"
"I don't have a favorite!" I said but they didn't hear me and kept yelling at each other.
Fortunately, Fred is a very good peacekeeper.
"SHUT UP. BOTH OF YOU ARE HER FAVORITES!" He yelled. Dom and James were forced into silence and looked and Freddy with an annoyed look. "Now you both apologize."
They both muttered apologies to each other and looked at Freddy.
"Good job," he said and hit their backs.
What happened to the 11 year old boy who was jumping on my face this morning?
"Guys, Toire taught me a cool word," he whispered. "Want to hear it?"
This won't be good.
"Fred-" I tried to say.
"SHIT!" Freddy yelled at the top of his lungs and started running around. Dom and James joined him, the three of them yelling profanities at the top of their lungs and running around like maniacs.
I am ashamed to share genetics with them.
"OI! SHUT IT YOU THREE!"
They all stopped instantly and looked at Ted-I mean The Rat Bastard. I actually forgot he was there and all the anger that had disappeared came rushing back.
"Don't swear," The Rat Bastard said to the three of them. "Now, can we head down to the Great Hall in a decent manner?"
They all nodded their heads and turned toward the direction of the Great Hall, walking in a line.
Which left me with The Rat Bastard.
"Hey," he said with a smile. I ignored the amount of butterflies that appeared in my stomach. Damn him and his butterfly-inducing smile. “You were up in your dorm for a while. What was the hold up?"
I clenched my teeth. "Just talking with my roommates. I got held up talking to your new girlfriend," I said, not caring about how harsh my words sounded.
I saw that he visibly paled. "Vic, I tried to tell you-"
"Tell me what?" I said, turning on him. We had reached the Great Hall and Freddy, Dom and James had all gone in and secured our usual family breakfast seats at the very end of the Gryffindor table. They hadn't even noticed that The Rat Bastard and I weren't there yet, choosing instead to pay attention to the many breakfast choices in front of them. "Tell me that your dating my best friend?"
"Yeah, that's what I wanted to tell you this morning," he said. "But you wouldn't let me. You were in such a damn hurry to get back to your dorm." I noticed that his tone matched mine. Damn warewolfness, making us both super pissed off.
"You really had me fooled you know that?" I told him.
"What the hell are you talking about?" he asked me, annoyed at my accusatory tone.
"Do you remember yesterday?" I asked. "Do you remember what almost happened in the locker rooms? What would've happened if your damn Quidditch team didn't walk in?"
He didn't say anything but I could see in his eyes that he remembered. He knew that he would have kissed me then and there was no way he could have denied that.
"Do you remember what you said to me?" I asked him, my tone softening as I remembered his words from yesterday. "You called me beautiful and pure and you said that...that any guy..."
"Any guy would be lucky to have you," Teddy whispered, finishing my sentence. His gaze was intense on mine and I found myself no longer mad at him. I wanted to be, I wanted to yell at him and call him a liar but I couldn't. He was telling me the truth. "You don't even need to try to be beautiful because you could be wearing sweats and no make up and you would still be the most beautiful girl in the room. I told you that you were the purest and most beautiful girl I ever met and that you don't need to change anything about you."
"So what, was all that a lie?" I asked him, whispering myself.
"No," he whispered back to me. "I meant it. I meant every word I said to you because it's true. Everything I said was true." He pushed a stray hair behind my ear. "The person who told you otherwise doesn't deserve to be in your life because that person is an idiot and a total bitch."
"Yeah well," I said, taking a step back from him so his hand fell from my face. "Your girlfriend has an amazing way with words. But I guess she's an idiot and total bitch right?"
Teddy stood, frozen in place, looking at me with shocked eyes.
"Yeah," I said, nodding. "Gabrielle said all that to me. Great friend, right?"
"She...she said that to you?" he asked me quietly.
"Yeah," I said, walking backwards to the Great Hall. "Great choice in girlfriends, Ted."
I turned away from him and walked to my cousins, sitting down next to Dom.
"Where's Teddy?" she asked me.
I looked up to where I had just left him and saw that he was nowhere in sight.
"He said that he had to get something," I said, putting some pancakes on my plate. "Now enough about him, what has been going on in First Year?"
Dom went on to tell me about how her classes were going, except I wasn't listening too intently.
I was too busy hoping that Teddy had gone to break up with Gabrielle after finding out what she had said to me.
But of course, because my life sucks, he didn't. I walked in later that day to find him and Gabrielle sucking face on the couch, almost as if their lives depended on it.
It was disgusting.
"Hey Tor," Michael said, coming up next to me. "Ugh, looks like Gabrielle and her new boy toy are making a spectacle of themselves. Joy."
"It's disgusting," I said. "If I ever do that with some boy please slap me."
"I'll consider it," he said. "Just depends on who that guy would be. If, by some amazing miracle, you got feelings for me, I would not be opposed to doing that."
"Michael," I said. "No matter what. If there is any boy in my life, including you, and I'm doing that, you'll know that I've gone insane."
We stood in silence for a while, watching them go at it. I didn't know much about kissing but is Teddy supposed to look bored and distracted? And like he would really rather not be going at it?
It's probably just my imagination playing games with me.
"Hey," Michael said, touching my arm. "You okay?"
I shrugged. "How would you feel if the boy you have liked since you were two was making out with someone else?"
"Sorry that was a dumb question," he muttered before pulling me into a hug. "For what it's worth, you're a lot better than she is. Any guy would be an idiot not to see it."
I rested my head against his shoulder, wrapping my arms around his neck. "Thanks Michael. Even though it's not true."
Michael shook his head and pulled away from me. "It's true. Trust me, it's true." He looked over my head and started smirking. "And I can tell Lupin knows it."
"What do you mean?" I asked and was about to turn around but he stopped me.
"Don't turn around," Michael said. "Lupin and Gabrielle have stopped eating each other's faces. That's not the point though. The point is that your little lover boy is glaring at me for hugging you." He continued smirking and met my eyes. "Imagine what he would do if we did something else."
"I don't think I like where this is going," I said and was tempted to take a step away from him. What did he have in mind? Kissing? Oh Merlin. I mentally prepared myself to punch him just in case he decided to try.
I love the kid.
But not in that way.
No matter how hard I tried.
"Don't worry, I'm not going to kiss you or anything," he said and I couldn't help but let out a breath of relief. "Although that would be very enjoyable."
I rolled my eyes. "Back to the point, Michael."
"Okay. So Hogsmeade is next week right?" he asked me and I nodded. He looked very excited. "We should go together."
"Like on a date?" I clarified.
"Well duh," Michael said. "We're trying to make Lupin jealous aren't we?"
"I don't know," I said. "I mean, you like me. And I don't want you to think that by going out on a fake date with you that I'll suddenly fall in love with you. I don't want to lead you on."
"Don't worry about that, Tor," he said dismissively. "I'm trying to get over you. We can go as friends. That's just something that they," he nodded to Teddy and Gabrielle, "don't have to know."
I was quiet. I was trying to think of ways to make sure that he didn't get the wrong idea. He was my friend. I don't want to hurt him.
"Victoire, if you think that you're somehow going to hurt me because you think that I'm going to believe this is a real date, your wrong," he said. He put his hands on my shoulders, like he was preparing me for a big Quidditch game. "I know that you aren't going to like me because you really like Lupin. As much as I hate to admit it, I can tell that he has some sort of feelings for you that he doesn't have for Gabrielle. I don't like Gabrielle, in fact I don't think anyone really does. So I'm fine with getting Lupin away from her and giving you the chance to be with him. I'm fine with you using me to make him jealous. I know that Gabrielle is your best friend, but for once, fight for what you want, Tor. You want Lupin, fine. Go on a date with me and make him jealous so that maybe he'll come to his senses and dump Gabrielle for you."
"Okay," I said quietly. "I'll do it."
"Yes!" Michael said and pulled me into a hug.
"On one condition," I said when he pulled away. "You actually ask me."
Michael smiled a big goofy grin. "Victoire, will you be my date to Hogsmeade next weekend?"
I couldn't help but smile right back at him. "Of course, Michael."
If only I knew then what I was getting myself into.
A/N: Yay a new chapter!! I know I took forever, but I got so caught up in writing Madness and school and cheer and life, that I (sadly) couldn't write fanfiction all day.
For those of you who read my other stories, I have half of Chapter 16 of Madness written, hopefully to be updated soon and half of Perfect Chapter 7. However, I don't really like it, so I may just scratch it and rewrite it.
ALSO: I decided that this will be a bit of a prequel to Madness. Not a big deal, but just an fyi :D thoughts on that?
Anyway, what did you guys think? I like parts of this chapter. What do you think of Teddy and Gabrielle (gag)? And of Dom, James, and Freddy? And the whole family breakfast? How do you think her date with Michael will go? Please tell me that and more in your review!!!
