I never expected to be made head girl of Hogwarts in my seventh year. I mean my grades were good yes, and I had been a prefect since 5th year and I was happy about it. But I made Head Girl over my closet and dearest friend, Lilianna Evans. She was bummed out that she was not offered the position, but she was still a prefect and she was ecstatic that I did have the position.
“Coral darling, your grades were better than mine. It’s not a wrong decision on the part of Headmaster Dumbledore. You deserve this. You worked hard for it. Besides, if I can’t have the position, then at least my dearest friend got it and not some underserving stick-up loony walking around the halls.” Lily had said to me as we found our Compartment on the Hogwarts Express.
“Thanks Lily. I’m glad you are not too sad about it.”
“Of course I’m not. Now where are those idiots, if they don’t hurry they will miss the train.”
“It wouldn’t be the first time.” We were talking about our four best friends, as crazy, annoying and outrageous as they were, the four Marauders did happen to be our friends and it was concerning that they might miss the train.
“Well, we didn’t this time ladies.” A voice said from the doorway. My eyes immediately met Sirius Black’s eyes. As soon as we made eye contact he was on me in an instant with a huge bear hug and a wet sloppy kiss on my left cheek. He did the same to Lily, who screeched. I got three more large hugs from Peter, Remus and of course James.
“Hey Coral. Congrats on your being made Head Girl this year.” I smiled when Remus gave me the compliment.
“Thanks Remy.”
“You made head girl?” James asked dumbly, just as he shoved a chocolate frog into his mouth.”
“Ewww! James, you are disgusting, don’t speak with your mouth full.” Lily screeched again.
“James, did you not open the last letter I sent you?”
“Ah, sorry Lils,” James finished his chocolate frog then grinned sheepishly at me. “Ah, no, I didn’t Coral, because Mum threw it out.”
“I doubt that James Potter.”
“Okay, she didn’t exactly throw it out, we had had a fight and she accidently started it on fire.”
“What were you fighting about?”
“Ummm… the girl she found me in bed with that morning.”
Lily looked at him lividly, but only I could see the tears brimming in her eyes. I cast a look of pure fury at James and he frowned.
“It isn’t like you think, Our Neighbor Annaleigh had climbed into my window to talk about how she wanted to run away, I talked her out of it, but she fell asleep before I could send her home. Mum took it as something more than it was.”
“Well. You have a poor way of expressing what happened. I would have been pissed too.”
“Are we all excited for our new year?” Remus asked trying to break the tension, but failing. Nobody replied. Lily stormed out of the compartment, and I followed after her.
