Author's Note: Hey everyone! Sorry it's taken so long to update, but I've been super busy with life! I have finals for the next two weeks, and my show, Into the Woods, is finally starting to perform, so that's also happening during these next two weeks. So you may see why I haven't updated in awhile. Some other exciting news is that I finished my first original novel!! I've sent it to some friends to be edited, and then it will be printed and sent out to publishers! I'm so excited, so I'll continue to give you guys updates on that! I still have two completely separate novels to finish, so those are going to be continued now that I'm done A Fine Line. So here is the next chapter and if I don't get one up in a decent amount of time, I apologize in advance! Please read, review, and favorite the story!
"Hi!" I said excitedly, welcoming everyone into the house. It was Aidan and Nadia's first birthday. They were one year old!
Harry and I were so excited, probably more excited than the kids were.
I just couldn't believe it. It had already been a year since the twins had been born and they had grown so much! They were walking, could understand what we were saying, and could say little words like "mama" and "dada". They also babbled non-stop to each other in their own language, and you could tell they understood each other. It was hilarious!
We were having a huge birthday party for them at the house. My family, all the Weasleys, Andromeda and Teddy, Lindsay, Emilie, Luna, Neville, Cormac, Draco and his girlfriend Astoria, and some of my friends from work were all going to be there.
"Just head right through to the backyard! That's where everything's set up," I told them and they obeyed.
Harry was already in the backyard with the twins so I quickly followed the group through the house and out the back door.
I had the whole yard decorated in baby blue and pink. There were paper lanterns strung in the trees surrounding the yard, a large table in the center of the yard, decorated with matching place settings, decorations and more food than we could all possibly eat, but we wanted to be prepared. A small table designated for presents was set up further off to the side.
We had a little pool set up for the kids to play in, under adult supervision, of course. The kids would probably be too busy being passed around to actually get to play.
I know it's a little ridiculous to have a birthday party for a pair of one-year-olds. They barely understood what was going on. But for Harry and I, it marked a year since one of the best moments of our lives. And because we were as close to a Weasley as you could get without having the ginger hair or actually being born into the family, a big party was required for any special occasion.
"Fleur!" I shrieked when I saw that she was one of the people to arrive. Her stomach was huge. Then again, she was seven months pregnant, so I'd be worried if she wasn't really big. "You're huge!"
"Zank you," she said with a smile, fondly rubbing her belly. Bill smiled at his wife, and I could tell he was ecstatic that they were finally going to be having a baby.
"How has your pregnancy been?" I asked.
"Much easier zan yours, I am guessing," Fleur said, laughing. "Only one child and not during war."
"True, true," I said, looking at her belly. I felt so reminiscent. I remembered when I was pregnant, talking to my little unborn babies (or what I thought to be one baby at the time), getting pampered by Harry, seeing the twins for the first time.
I wanted to have another baby.
But Harry and I had talked about it and said no more kids until after we're married. We already had two biological kids and a godson to take care of without throwing some more into the mix. But then again, our wedding was pretty soon...
"I know that look, someone is thinking about having more children," Harry said cautiously. "I'm going to have to take Emily away until she's gotten a hold of herself. It's good seeing you two."
Harry then pulled me away from the rest of the crowd and into our pool house. "Harry," I moaned. "She looks so gorgeous and happy...how am I supposed to not want more children when I see Fleur looking like that?"
Harry laughed. "Only five more months until you're coronated and we're married. I think we can manage the wait."
"Ugh...I hate you sometimes," I said, glaring at him.
"No you don't," Harry said, grinning as he leaned over and kissed me. I instantly responded, wrapping my arms around his neck. He lifted me up and I wrapped my legs around his hips as I pressed my body against his.
His hands slid down to hold my butt as I let mine travel up to his messy hair. I couldn't stop smiling. Just because we were parents didn't mean we couldn't have fun...
"I told you they'd be in here," Ron's voice said from the doorway, making Harry and I immediately stop what we were doing.
"I should have known," Hermione said, looking at the two of us and shaking her head. I just smiled even bigger and hugged Harry. "You two are really impossible."
Harry and I looked at each other, before Harry turned back to the two. "I had to stop Emily from wanting a baby."
Ron and Hermione started laughing. "Mate, I'm pretty sure that's not the way to do it."
We started laughing too. We really did get carried away sometimes...
We walked back out to the yard with Hermione and Ron, where everyone was milling around, talking. "It's weird to think that a year from today we were getting ready to fight Voldemort," Hermione mentioned.
I nodded. The fact that the twins had been born alive and healthy was a miracle in itself, and now they were a year old.
"It makes me feel old," I said, frowning a little.
"You're eighteen, you're anything but old," Harry said, nudging me with his arm.
"Yeah, yeah," I said, before going to join all of our guests. There were only four kids here - Aidan, Nadia, Teddy, and Logan. Logan Middlestone was the son of Gianna Middlestone.
Gianna worked in the Auror department with Harry and I. She had been in Gryffindor and graduated with Oliver Wood and Percy. She was one of the sweetest people I had ever met, and I loved working with her. She had become one of my closest friends.
We had a lot in common too. We both liked music and acting. We had both been in Gryffindor. And we both had children during the war, and at a young age. The circumstances surrounding Logan's birth, however, weren't as fortunate as mine.
Logan's biological father had been a werewolf. And not a good werewolf like Remus had been. It had been a werewolf working for Voldemort, and he had assaulted Gianna. That's how Logan was conceived, unfortunately. You always heard of people having children in these circumstances and holding resentment towards their children. Gianna wasn't like that at all.
You could tell she loved Logan with all of her heart. And how could you not? He was the sweetest little boy, and quite funny as well. And Gigi handled everything so well, being a single mother. She was superwoman in my eyes. She was one of us oddlings that had been welcomed into the Weasley family with open arms. Whenever she had to work, one of the Weasleys or I would take care of Logan.
"Gigi!" I called when I saw her sitting over by the children.
She grinned and came over to give me a hug. "How are you, Emily?"
"Good!" I said.
"You and Harry were just making out, weren't you?" she asked. I grinned and she just shook her head. "Merlin you two are cute."
I just kept grinning as I watched the kids playing together. The twins were the oldest out of all of them, and they were only one, but I could already see that those four would be best friends. It was exciting to think that our kids would go through all of the same milestones together.
"Can you believe they're already a year old?" she asked.
I shook my head. "It feels like just yesterday I was complaining about being the size of a whale and wondering what was going to happen."
"Mama!" Teddy shouted and came running over to me. If I thought I was smiling then, I was grinning like an idiot now.
"Teddy!" I said, holding my arms out to him. He came waddling over and gave me a big hug. "Hey sweetie."
I loved that he thought I was his mom. I knew I wasn't his biological mom, but if I could act as his mom for him, that was alright with me. I loved him like he was my own and I knew that feeling was going to last for a long time.
"Teddy, dear, your hair is blue!" Gianna exclaimed, which made him giggle. Nadia and Aidan came waddling over as well to give their Auntie Gigi a hug, bringing Logan along with them.
"Do you silly little children want some cake?" I asked and all their eyes lit up as they stared at us. Gianna and I started laughing. "I think that means yes."
So we scooped up the kids and I handed Harry the twins. I walked into the kitchen to get the cakes out of the fridge while Gianna and Harry told everyone that we were going to do cake and to get around the table.
We had decided to do two cakes - one for each sibling. Yes, we seriously went to those kinds of lengths. Aidan's was a chocolate cake with chocolate icing and blue decorations all over it, and Nadia's was a vanilla cake with vanilla icing and pink decorations all over it. My mom had volunteered to make it because she literally made the best cake I had ever tasted.
She had made every cake for my sister's and my birthdays, as well as cakes for all of our friend's birthdays. So now it only seems right that she make the cakes for her grandkids. And it saves me the trouble of making two separate cakes.
I brought them out and lit the "1" candles. As soon as I entered the backyard, we all started singing "Happy Birthday". The twins were completely focused on the flames on the candles. Good thing I had made sure the flames wouldn't hurt anyone.
I placed the cakes in front of the twins who looked very confused. "Blow out the candles!" Harry said in a baby voice, which made me melt a little inside. The twins did a little spitty blow so we helped them blow the candles out and then started serving cake to everyone.
I couldn't have been prouder to see this day.
