I wish I had a boyfriend. I wish he went to Hogwarts and I could see him whenever I wanted and he’d look at me like boys do in the movies, as if I’m beautiful. He wouldn’t need to speak- but I’d know. I’d know that he loved me. That I was the centre of his world. His everything.
I sit up with a flash and grab my wand, muttering Lumos so as not to wake my roommates.
I grab the piece of parchment from my beside cabinet and write, I want a boy to love me. Then I lie back down and gaze out at the walls of the castle.
The stone seems alive despite the fact the inhabitants of the castle are mostly sleeping. Sometimes I believe the walls hear secrets, that they can sense the murmuring thoughts of the many students who pass through the walls, that they can peer into my mind and see my deepest desires.
Then I remember they are just walls.
Rose is snoring. Although she always claims it's just heavy breathing.
Probably busy dreaming of how she and Scorpius will get married some day and have a host of strawberry blonde children. She’ll teach them everything there is to know about Hogwarts: A History and he’ll tell them stories of his father and why they should never become death eaters. After their children are older and leave home, they will grow old together, sat laughing on a porch remembering their good old days at Hogwarts as their hair fades to grey.
She came and spoke to me last night.
She walked over to the window and threw open the curtains exclaiming,
‘’Look at that!’’
I could just make out the figures of the teams on the Quidditch pitch and the hundreds of students cheering as they supported their house team but I turned away as always.
‘If you won’t talk about it how can I help you?’’ she said coming over to sit on the edge of my bed.
I held my breath, after a while bright lights began to dance before my eyes as I lost consciousness.
Rose reached over and stroked my head, ‘’Breathe Lia’’ she murmured.
Instead I grabbed my hood pulling it over my head, she went away then.
She’s just waking up now I can see her wrestling around in her bed as she tries to cling to her dream. I know it’s strange I notice that, but nothing surprises me anymore.
Earlier this morning I heard Dom slip out of the door on her way to Quidditch Practice. As she left I could hear Potter yelling at her to hurry up and move. God Forbid they should miss one minute of practice time- not that it would make them anymore likely to win the Cup.
She has come back now, she smells of sweat and dirt and desperately needs a shower, but she makes a detour to my bed and peeks round the curtain.
I pretend to be asleep, but that doesn’t stop her. She leans over and whispers, ‘I don’t care if you never speak to me again.’
I open one eye only to see Dom grinning like a Cheshire cat. ‘Knew you were faking’ she says smugly. ‘Al wants to know if you want any breakfast?’
‘No’
‘What shall I tell him?’
‘Tell him I want a baby dragon’
She laughs, ‘I’m going to miss you’ she says and walks into the bathroom leaving me with an empty stomach and the odour of sweat lingering in the air.
