Narcissa had given me a stack of books to read. Some were on acting, some on pureblood life, some on dark magic, and some about spying. She sat me down at six o’clock that morning in the library with a bowl of fruit and some coffee. The stack of book sat in front of me.

“Well go ahead and begin dear, the day does not end until these are read. Trixie will attend to any needs you have. And we can meet for tea and a break at three to discuss what you have learned so far.”

“I’m eager to begin the quiet of the library wills surely help.” I picked up the first book, it was called the art of secrets and was about spying. It took me an hour to read it from cover to cover, basically it gave instructions how to keep secrets, spin a secret life, acting out your alias and keeping your lies straight s not to be trapped in them. The second book was about housekeeping in a pureblood home, how to host parties for your husband’s guests. It was important I knew because there would be many death eaters that passed through the manor and I would be expected to entertain them. If I screwed up and suspicion turned to me, it could risk the life of Draco and blow his cover. I had read 10 books, since most of them were short and I was a fast reader, when Draco came into the library at 10 that morning.

“Draco. Good morning.” I said looking up from what I was currently reading as he sat next to me.

“Good morning wife.”

He was unpredictable, but he didn’t seem to be in a foul mood.

“I’m just doing some reading.”

“I interceded mother in the hallway and she told me where you were. I also interceded Trixie bringing you more coffee.” He said handing me a mug.

“I took it and set it on the table next to me. Draco leaned down and kissed me.

“Draco.” I started to protest but he shushed me.

“Stop reading, you already know how to be a death eater, and spying for the order isn’t all that difficult. Come and walk in the Garden with me.”

“Oh, alright. Draco, I’m just not sure that I know how to be a spy for the order, or how to help your cover.”

“Don’t worry about it, you know more than you, or mother for that matter, thinks.”

I set the book down and took Draco’s hand and we left the library going to the garden.

“I assume you want to know about me.” He said as we walked amoung the roses.

“It would be nice. But I think that the house holds too many bitter memories for you and you are in pain because of them. You do not need to explain, it is the same way for me in my mother’s house. Like a prison you cannot escape even when you are not there.”

“Yes, it is like that. This mark on my arm too, I wish I had never taken it and I regret the things I did.”

“I don’t blame

“I don’t blame you like the order does Draco.”

“You fought with the Order?”

“Yes, but only when I could, I was more of an informant to Potter than anything else. I killed one person in the war but only in self-defense. Mother would have killed me had she known it was me who killed her fiancée.”

Draco nodded.

“It is hard to fight for a cause you believe in when you are expected to fight for the other end, for evil by your parents. Why did you kill him?”

“He found me talking to Potter and he was raising his wand at me to kill me and I hexed him I didn’t use Black Magic, but I just kept hexing him until he laid there dead. He would have exposed me if not killing me and I would have died regardless.”

“I killed Dumbledore.”

“No, Snape did.”

“It doesn’t matter who actually killed him. It wouldn’t have happened if I never took the dark mark.”

“No, it wouldn’t have but he is gone now Draco. There is nothing we can do to change that. Dumbledore would forgive you.”

“How do you know?”

“Potter. He told Potter and I overheard. Dumbledore knew he was going to die before this war started and he accepted it, He knew that the pain of doing it was killing you inside and he could not hate you for it because you showed remorse for doing the deed.”

“It’s getting cold out. We should go back in.” His face turned hard again and his soft grey eyes turned storm”

“It’s getting cold out. We should go back in.” His face turned hard again and his soft grey eyes turned stormy. He had shut down again, shutting me out.”

“Yes, let’s go in.” I said, knowing I would only make it worse for him if I pushed.

The first lesson was to be there for my husband and to help him understand that forgiveness can be his and that it isn't out of reach.
