Chapter 4- Seriously Sirius
“Wake up Miss Hill.” An annoying distant voice awoke me from my sleep. I squinted and shuffled to my side. “Come one. You need to take your medications, unless you want me to ask Mr Black to feed them to you.”
I shot up and stared at her, mouth hanging open. “You would never.”
“If it gets you take your pills then yes, I will” I sighed and took my pills straight away.
“I was tired Poppy.” I said while yawning.
“You need to eat. Your sugar level is going down.” She placed the food tray on me.
“No. I’m not hungry. I’ll eat when I want to.”
“Which is never, you need the food.”
“Come on Lindy. If you don’t feed yourself then I will have to.” Sirius walked in with James and Lily. I couldn’t help but send a glare towards Sirius. It wasn’t what I would do normally but I was hurt.
“Poppy, after she eats discharge her.” James added.
“No way Mister. She’s not going anywhere, unless she eats a giant squid. She’s too we…”
“She’s over exaggerating, I’m eating.” I placed the spoon in my mouth and swallowed. “See.”
“It’s her first Hogsmeade e trip!” Lily complained. Sending a quick look at Poppy.
“Fine.” Poppy agreed
James and Lily left, leaving Sirius and I alone.
“I’m sorry about today.” He obviously was talking about the fact that he rejected his friendship over someone, which now I think, is actually the right thing.
“It’s fine. I’m not mad at you Sirius. In fact I’m glad that you found a girl to go with. You shouldn’t waste your time on me.”
“You know it’s not like that.” I shrugged and looked outside. “Well, I should go fetch Brittany. We might see each other there.”
“Yeah.” After a minute James walked in looking sad as ever. “What’s wrong?” I actually meant, what did you do?
“Lily cancelled,” I frowned. “I ruined it, she screamed at me at breakfast and said she never wants to see me again.” I hugged him and patted his head. “Your ruining my hair.”
“James, what did you do?” He smirked and chuckled sadly.
“I really didn’t think it was that bad.” I waited still for answer. “Fine, I got a few of the junior kids to play an instrument, to her in the Great hall. Then I delivered her ten bouquets of flowers.” I sighed, knowing exactly where he went wrong.
“Lily just wanted a simple date James, maybe one rose and no singing."
“I know, that’s why I’m here to fix it.” I looked at him confused with what he was trying to imply. “I’m taking you on a date to Hogsmeade e .” He exclaimed.
“No, James that won’t work.” I shook my head in protest.
“Of course it will. I’ll take you and treat you perfectly and she’ll get jealous.” He paused and then his smile flattened. “Lindy, I don’t take you like that, no offense. You’re like my sister.”
I laughed which made him smile. “None taken. Well if we want to do this then I’ll have to get ready now.”
I got changed in my room, wearing tight blue skinny jeans and a red knitted long sleeve top with a white scarf. I tied my hair into a high pony tail and wore simple flats.
Lily bumped into me on the way out and smiled. “You’re out and going to Hogsmeade.” She smiled. “With who?”
“James. He asked me out and I’m said sure why not.” I waved a shocked Lily and walked down to find a cleaned up James Potter who actually looked stunning.
“You look perfect Lindy.” He came and claimed my hand.
“Thank you.” We headed down to the carriages and stood there waiting for Remus and Marlene. James said we were going on a double date.
I stood there watching the imaginary carriages move away with students on them, when James broke my gaze.
“Can you see them?” he asked concerned.
“See what?” I looked back at the carriage and saw nothing pulling them. Magic was amazing.
“Oh, well you obviously can’t.” he then stepped forward and took my hand, opening them and placing a single rose on them. I saw him smile. He then leaned forward and whispered in my ear. “This may seem awkward to you,” It did. James was like a brother to me, it was really weird romancing with him. “But Lily is behind with Alice.” I nodded and smiled, accepting the rose.
After that scene and Remus and Marlene showing up, James and I got on the carriages and left for Hogsmeade . He gave me a brief description on what was there and the any different food shops. I was really excited and couldn’t wait to waste my money on unnecessary items.
I hoped of the carriage hearing laughter from behind me. I was just about to move forward when James grabbed my hand and swung me around. I forgot about him. “Where do you want to go? I’ll follow you, since I have this huge feeling that you are the type of person that is easy to lose.”
I smiled cheekily, “I don’t really mind where we go but I would like to check some books out.”
“Books, you’re going to be best friends with Moony.” I raised my eyebrows. “I mean Remus.”
“I like your pet names; they are very fascinating, like they have a meaning behind it.” I thought.
“No meaning. Just something we randomly came up with.” He choked. I didn’t press further and followed him to the store that read Hogsmeade Bookish Books. Real original.
I walked in and lost James immediately, he kept catching up with me every time I left for a different isle. James, as the perfect gentleman, carried all the books I wanted to buy. The shop had a huge range of magical books to muggle novels. I loved it.
James heaved the books and thumped them all on the counter. He smiled and lifted his arms to show his muscles. “I’m strong.” I chuckled and thanked him.
James reached into his pocket and brought out his wallet. “Uh uh.” I stood in front of him and brought my wallet out. “There’s no way I’m letting you pay for all these.”
“Lindy, it’s really no deal. I want to pay.” I laughed.
“Then pay for your own books.” He pushed me aside and took a handful of galleons out of his wallet. “JAMES!” I yelled. But it was too late; the lady accepted it and stared at us, from James to me.
“Um, that will be a total of 22 galleons.” The lady replied. She gave three quarters of the money back to James but I took it and placed a whole heap of mine and placed it back in his hand.
“Hey, that’s cheating.” He yelled after I carried the books and placed them in my extendable bag.
“No, that’s playing well.” He grabbed my tiny bag and looked inside.
“Blimey, how did you fit all the books in this tiny bag?” he questioned.
“Well, it’s called and extendable charm. We learnt it in charms, remember.” I reminded.
“Oh yeah! I was too busy finishing Astronomy homework.” I knew he was lying.
“Where do you want to go?” he pointed at a huge shop which seemed to be four stories high. “Zonkos” read. Walking in with James pulling me through, I realised it was a joke shop. Typical Marauder shop.
“You’re definitely going to get lost in here if I don’t hold on to you.” I looked around and saw the shop was packed with people. Waiting in the line too purchase items and trying out the jokes on one another. “We have like half an hour before we half to meet up with Remus and Marlene. We’re going to go to the Three Broomsticks to have lunch there.”
I nodded and hit right into James chest when he stopped suddenly. “Sorry, Lin.” He turned to face the owner and cheerfully said. “Can I have the Marauder usual?” The man came back with a huge box filled with tricks. James paid the man and pushed people out of the way so we could get out.
“Here, you can put it in my bag.” He smiled and placed it in. He grabbed my hand and walked out heading towards the Three Broomstick. I could see Remus and Marlene waiting outside with Lily, chatting.
“Moony” James greeted. “Marlene. Lily.”
“Hey Lindy, Prongs.” Remus replied. Marlene hugged me and walked with me inside with Lily. She told me about her date so far and how nice Remus was. We took our seats and James sat next to me, he started asking me what I wanted to eat, while Lily glanced at us.
“Well, we can start with butterbeer.” I nodded, having no idea what it was. “It isn’t beer, so don’t worry.” Good, I was a strict no alcohol. I didn’t mind others drinking it but my choice was not to drink and the doctors reccomended it.
My heart skipped a beat when I saw Sirius walk over to us with a clingy beautiful blonde with him. “Hey guys. How’s your date with James, Lily?” I felt James tense next to me. I nudged him and felt him relax.
“Oh didn’t you hear Padfoot, I asked Lindy out.” I saw Sirius eyes tightened and he stopped smirking.
“You are on a date with Lindy.” He said slower.
“Yes, I know I said she was like my sister but, circumstances have changed.” James placed his am gently around my shoulders. James then pushed my hair behind my ear.
“Well, we’ll be leaving now.” Brittney purred while pulling on Sirius’s shirt. Anger boiled through me. Sirius wasn’t a toy to play with.
“No, let’s sit. You’ll don’t mind, right.” Sirius pulled out a chair and took a seat.
“No.” Marlene answered.
I sipped on my butterbeer, I was extremely thirsty and finished the cup. James chuckled and slid his cup towards me, which caused Lily to glare at me.
“Here, have mine.” I thanked him and drank his. I could see James smirking every now and then, looking at Sirius.
“So, how do you find Hogsmead Lindy?” I looked up and gave Sirius a small smile. “It’s beautiful. James really knows how to treat a girl.” I smiled at him and he winked back. “Did he buy you ten bunches of roses?” Lily stated.
“No, but he gave me a single rose.” Sirius glared at James while Lily glared at me.
“Well, Padfoot, what have you and Brit been up to.” James asked, changing the topic.
Sirius opened his mouth to answer when Brittany spoke. “Call me Brit again and I’ll pour my drink on you, then hex you.” She glared and smiled creepily.
“Must be fun.” Remus chuckled.
“You know what!” Sirius stated. He faced Brittany and rambled. “I have no real interest with you; I just accepted your offer because I wasn’t thinking straight. I would say I’m sorry but I’m not. You’re really bossy, talkative and wear way too much makeup. You are not my type.” That was true.
“Did someone put Vertersirum in your butterbeer?” Marlene asked.
Brittany slapped Sirius hard on the face and left. Sirius held his cheek and faced us grinning. “So worth it.” Everyone started laughing.
“Are you ok?” I pointed to his cheek. He locked his eyes on mine and smiled.
“I’ll be fine.” James coughed which brought me back.
“Um, do you want to head back?” he asked me.
“Sure.” I took his hand and walked out.
As soon as we got out, James started laughing. “Did you see their faces. They were so jealous.”
“They?” I asked.
“You didn’t see Sirius’s face.” I did but I still didn’t get what he was implying. “Oh, Lindy. You were amazing. Lily glared at you the whole time. I love you.” He lifted me up and spun me. He placed me down when we heard a cough.
"How are you Remus?" he really didn't look too good.
“Great. Why aren’t you at dinner?” Remus asked as I walked into the common room..
“Why aren’t you?” I stated back. He looked surprised then smirked and nodded.
“Lindy’s talked the most today than I’ve ever seen her.” James walked in with Lily, who came and sat next to me “She kept talking at Hogsmeade.” Lily shifted slightly next to me.
No I don’t. I didn’t feel the need to and I was always shy around people. I really do wonder why I didn’t get into hufflepuff or Ravenclaw. I’m no way near brave. “I talk.” I disagreed. Remus snorted and James laughed. “Well I’m tired. I guess I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“Night Lindy” they shouted.
Potions first up. I didn’t mind but it was a thinking subject and it was Monday. Everyone was in a great mood and I was in a really tired state.
James was chatting to me about his new tactics for quidttich while Lily discussed homework with Remus. “So I was thinking that if we place the chasers over here, it might be much better than them being with the others.” James even modelled the field with food.
“So you want the grapes to be away from the nuts?” I asked. This was complex for a Monday morning.
“Exactly! But remember Lindy, we hate nuts.” He explained. The nuts were the Slytherins.
After another lecture we all headed to potions, we all sat with our partners. “Hey Sirius.” I mumbled quietly as I took a seat next to him. He was swinging on his two back chair legs with his feet on the table.
“Lindy.” He smirked and nodded. “So how was your weekend?”
“Great, I got time to catch up and I finished all my essays and assignments, Merlin I don’t even know how I did it. I guess Remus helped me a lot by filling me in but yeah how did I do it.” I paused then asked him. “What topic did you choose?” He stared at me and cracked up. “What?”
“And we think you don’t talk.” I frowned and shrugged it off. “Well, mines about Animagus.” He stated.
“Animagas, that is an very interesting topic..” I stopped realising I was blabbing again. “Yeah.”
“It is isn’t it. What are you doing?”
“Werewolves.” He fell on the chairs four legs and froze.
“What made you choose werewolves?” he asked.
“We’ll, I find it all very complexes and interesting how one changes every full moon and how much pain the transformation causes to the person.”
“Yeah, and that they’re a monster.” Remus chimed in.
“How can you say such a thing?” I whispered harshly to myself. “They do not choose to become that and they have no control over themselves when they are in transition. Do you really think they want to be one> Imagine how they must feel and imagine what they go through with people telling them that they’re nothing but monsters.”
I left the seat mumbling more to myself. Starting with the potion that was now written on the board.
“Get to work Class.” Slughorn ordered. I could feel Sirius gaze follow me but I simply ignored it and got to work.
Potions ended up being an entertaining lesson for Sirius. He kept staring at me while I brewed the potion and laughed every now and then. Whenever I looked at him he tried composing his face into and frown but completely failed.
Lily called to me to sit next to her in Defence; I walked over to her and took my seat. “What was up with Sirius and you in Potions?” “Nothing, he was just trying to be funny.” I placed my parchment and quills on the table.
Professor Knighting walked in and started speaking. “Today you are going to start practicing defence spells with your partner. Now Miss Hill, your partner is going to be taking this class anymore so you will be placed with Mr Black since he was the odd one out.”
Surprisingly I groaned loudly which caused everyone to look at me. “Is there any problem Miss Hill?” she asked concentred. I shook my head. I turned to see Sirius clutching his hurt and feigning hurt. The other Marauders chuckled.
I unwillingly walked up to him and placed my books next to his. He tapped me on my shoulder but I ignored it. He tapped me again but I still ignored it, writing notes from the board. He then levitated his book and slammed it on my head.
“Don’t ignore me.”
“Well, maybe if you didn’t laugh at me every time I looked away, oh and if you didn’t slam my head, I wouldn’t ignore you.” I truthfully said.
“Look, Lindy I’m sorry for what Remus and I said, and my laughing. I was just being,....”
“Distractive, mean, ignorant.” I whispered which made him laugh louder. What was going on with me? It felt like someone stuck Vertersurum down my throat.
“Come on, let’s start.” We stood up and took out our wands, aiming it at each other. “You may start love.”
“Please don’t call me that.” I politely said.
“Call you what… love.” He smirked.
“Let’s get this over with.” I raised my wand and aimed it at him, with a swish of my wand I muttered expelliarmus. He deflected it. “Wow, you good. I almost didn’t say it in time.” He fixed his uniform and smirked. “But, it specifically says nonverbal spells love.”
“I’m not very good at it.”
“Well, neither am I. Never done it before either.” He said. I was probably going to get it wrong but I took a breathe and concentrated hard. Less then two second, I sent Sirius flying backwards. I stood there shocked. “Err.” He groaned.
“Oh my god, I’m so sorry Sirius. I didn’t mean to hurt you.” I ran up to him and helped him up.
“That was brilliant Lindy. You’re a natural.” I smiled and shrugged. “You shrug a lot.” He pointed out. I laughed and shrugged again.
At the end of the lesson, Lily waited outside and followed me to lunch. “How was Sirius?”
I thought of a way to rephrase the words in a nice way. “He needs to practice.” I paused and frowned. A lot.” I added.
“That bad?” she asked. I simply nodded and stopped at the Great Hall entrance. “Don’t say you aren’t hungry because I’m not taking that as an answer.” She said sternly.
“Neither am I.” I turned around and saw the Marauders, Alice and Marlene walk up to us. “I’m serious, Poppy keeps asking me if you eat.” She’s going to spill everything. “She even glared at me when I said ‘I don’t know’.” James commented.
I laughed nervously and reassured them. “I’m perfectly fine. Let’s eat.”
Sirius sneaked glances at me while I ate. More like played. I had no interest in the food and neither did my tummy. I just mixed and mashed the altogether, making a disgusting appearance on my plate.
“You’re not eating” Sirius stated. “I’ll feed you if I have to.” I shoved a spoonful of mashed potatoes in my mouth. “Much better.” He smiled in victory and continued with his food.
Lily and James then left for their prefect meeting, Remus and Marlene excused themselves and Peter went to the hufflepuff table leaving Sirius and I.
“Midyear holidays are coming up.” I nodded. The first half of the year did fly fast. “Are you going home for holidays?” I nodded. “Can you talk?” I nodded again. He sighed. I closed my eyes and felt the throbbing pain that occurred many times and was never a good sign. “So what’s going on between you and James?”
“Sirius” I whispered softly. He glanced at me locking our eyes together. I melted into his stormy grey eyes immediately. “I need to go to Poppy now.” he frowned and concern swiped his face. He got up and guided me to the halls by placing his hand on my lower back. I held onto his hand and followed him.
“Lindy, what’s wrong? Are you feeling ok?” he asked trembling.
“I don’t feel so good.” My eyelids shut, they were too heavy to keep open.
I heard him gasp and lift me from my feet. “Lindy, you have blood coming from your ear. We need to go now.”
“It happens.” I whispered lightly, feeling myself falling into unconsciousness.
“Dammit, Lindy wakes up. Stay with me.” His pace quickened and he started running.
“I’ll be fine.” I felt myself drown away from him.
Sirius POV ‘
This could not be normal at all. There was whole heap of blood dripping from her ear. First it was last week and now today.
I was standing outside the infirmary only because Poppy shooed me out. Pacing up and down on the same spot waiting for some news. Poppy said that she’ll be fine and be out soon but I don’t get how. This is worse than last week and she kept her in for a least a week. What was going on?
I sat up on the cot I sat on. Having no idea where I am or why I’m here. I saw Poppy tending another boy with a broken bone. She hurried to me when she was done and sighed. “Take these pills. They help.” I swallowed the pills and looked at her.
“Thanks a lot.” She smiled and held my arm. She understood what I was going through.
“You may leave now, I’m pretty sure Mr Black is outside the door. Probably with his face against the door.” I chuckled. “You’re quite a popular girl.” I disagreed, I just had great friends. “Don’t forget to eat more, that’s probably why you bleed today.” I nodded and left, and just like she guessed, Sirius fell from leaning against the door.
“Sorry!” I helped him up and mumbled another apologise.
“Sorry? You scared the hell out of me Lindy. Especially whn you had blood dripping from your ear to your face and you were falling into unconsciousness. I thought you were going to…” he lowered his head.
“Not yet.” I smiled. “Thanks for that. I owe you.”
“That you do.” He looked at me and demanded. “Explain.”
“Explain what?” worried of course, I pretended I had no idea what he was taing about.
“Why that happened to you!” he cried.
“Oh, well Poppy said it was just the heat.” I lied smoothly.
“It’s winter Lindy and it’s snowing.” He stated with no expression. Well there went my best possible lie.
“Fine, lack of food.”
“I knew it. You are not eating. What, are you on a diet because seriously you are as thin as a stick and trust me that is not a good look.” I knew he didn’t mean to offend me but he still said it.
I walked away from him and strolled to the common room. “Wait, didn’t mean it like that!” he stopped me and turned me to face him. “Your perfect Lindy, you just need to eat more.” I smiled, perfect he called me. I could feel my heart fastening.
We walked to the common room and stopped right outside. “I’ll be serving you food every meal and if you don’t eat it, I’ll feed you in front everyone.” His fan club would throw daggers at me.
“I’ll eat.” He smiled and said the password.
“Where have you’ll to been?” Marlene exclaimed from next to Remus. “We’ve been looking for you.”
“Library.” I stated.
“Try again Lindy, because we checked there… twice.” Remus explained.
“Oh, we were at the greenhouse. Collecting plants for potions homework.”
“Well, you must have sneaked in because we’re not allowed in them after dinner and also we didn’t get any potions homework.” I glared at Remus and he simply smiled.
“She went to the infirmary.” Sirius announced practically to the entire world.
“We checked….” Marlene stopped. “No we didn’t.” They bothe looked at us. “Why?”
“Our dear Lindy doesn’t eat enough food so she became unconscious.” I glared at Sirius.
I sat down with them knowing that there was a lecture in store for me, and very well there was. First it was Marlene who kept scolding me with Remus agreeing to everything she said. Then James and Lily came back and James went into an entire speech and shouted at me. Lily told him off and told me in a nice way.
After all that Sirius whispered in my ear. “I’d eat food from now on if I were you.” I pushed him playfully while he barked from laughter.
Authors Review: Yay, I finished it. I know I said that this chapter will be about her and Regulus, but I thought I needed more Hogwarts thing, like classes. I hope you enjoyed this chapter, I . changed a lot from the previous one but I preferred this one, so I hope you had fun reading it.
