I stood in the pouring rain outside Malfoy Manor, pounding on the door.
“Draco!” I screamed, “I know you’re inside! You can’t hide forever! Open the door this instant!”
After a few more moments of furious pounding on my part, the door opened.
“Pansy,” he said coolly, “please do come inside.”
I marched into the house, dripping water all over the expensive floor. Draco flicked his wand at me lazily and the floor and I were suddenly dry. We walked to the couches in the drawing room and we both sat down.
“You should know why I’m here,” I said slowly.
“I can make an inference,” he said.
“Is it true?” I demanded, “Tell me if it’s true!”
“What exactly are you referring to?” he said nonchalantly.
“Your marriage,” I said, “to Astoria. Blaise let it slip.”
“Yes,” he said, as if it was completely normal to get married to someone other than your girlfriend.
“You should be ashamed,” I said, “five years. I’ve wasted five years with you.”
He shrugged.
“It’s not like we had feelings for each other,” he said, “what’s the big deal?”
“What’s the big deal?” I said quietly, “I didn’t have feelings for you at first; to me you were just a Malfoy, someone who helped me be feared at Hogwarts. But when we were nineteen, you started acting like you liked me. You led me on, didn’t you?
“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” he said indifferently, “our relationship has always been false, we’ve both been using each other since the beginning.”
“Then what’s this?” I said, reaching into my pocket. I pulled out a ring and handed it to him. It was shaped like a serpent, with green emeralds, white diamonds, and bloodstone.
At this he had the decency to look the least bit ashamed. He opened his mouth to speak.
The truth suddenly dawned on me.
“You,” I said, bitterly, “you, just wanted to get in my pants didn’t you? When I turned pretty when I was nineteen you saw another opportunity to take advantage of me. A fake ring, a fake promise—Merlin I’m stupid.”
“Congratulations,” Draco said, giving me a sarcastic smirk, “seems like with looks you’ve also developed some brains as well.”
I stood up from my chair, a glare on my face.
"Don't you think nineteen’s too young to be played by your dark twisted games?" I practically spat, “I never thought you were truly evil. We were both manipulated by our parents. I became a different person after the war, I thought you had too. You’re just a little boy who never grew up. A little ferret.”
“You wouldn’t dare,” he said, standing up to face me.
“I don’t care if I hurt you anymore,” I said, raising my wand. I planned to use Sectumsempra on him, leaving him bloody and to hurt the way he had hurt me. But staring at him and the ring he was turning in his hand, I couldn’t do it.
Draco made no move to raise his wand.
“Aren’t you going to fight back?” I taunted, “Or are you what they thought of you at school, a cowardly little ferret?”
He bit his lip, but still made no move toward me.
“You could never do it,” he said simply, “you changed after all, remember? You could never hurt me.”
I looked at him with contempt.
“I would kill you,” I said, “I would, believe me. But then poor little Astoria would be deprived of a husband, and I couldn’t do that to the poor little girl. She is, after all, only seventeen.”
I made a move to leave the room.
“So that’s it then?” Draco said, almost disappointed, “You’re not even going to fight back? Try and steal me away from her?”
“No,” I said, “you’re not worth it. You never have been. You tricked me into thinking you loved me but you’re just like our dear old leader, Voldemort, incapable of love.”
I walked slowly out of the room, Draco following behind. As I reached toward the handle to leave, Draco grabbed me by the shoulder and kissed me.
“Get away from me,” I said, pushing me away, “what are you playing at?”
“I don’t want to marry Astoria,” he whined, almost like a child, “marry me Pansy.”
I gave him a small sad smile, no longer seeing the boy I had fallen in love with, but a cruel, twisted man.
I walked out of the house without looking back. I felt a small victory, a sense of justice, finally have the upper hand against Draco Malfoy, the one who had always caused me so much pain.
