“’Bye,” Dom and I said together as Scorpius walked away. I assumed he was going to the library, from the direction he was heading in and for a second I wanted to go with him, but Dom pointed to the floor, telling me I dropped something.
I had brought my bag so that we didn’t have to carry the map out in the open, so I probably just dropped a piece of parchment when I collided with Scorpius.
I stooped down to pick it up, but when I opened it to see exactly what I dropped, I gasped. This was definitely not mine. It was a letter from Molly to Scorpius basically answering all my questions from before. It read:
How’d it go? I’m so excited about tomorrow, and I can’t wait to hear all the details! Fancy meeting me in the library? I would come in your common room, but as Head Girl, that would be setting a bad example… If you want to, I’ll be in the library until about 9 and then I have duty, so come meet me if you have time!
My heart dropped a little and I felt tears spring to my eyes. My throat closed off slightly, but Dom didn’t seem to notice.
When I showed the letter to her she laughed so hard I had to pick her off the floor. “I TOLD you!” she wailed. It echoed down the halls, and I swore I could hear Peeves coming. He typically didn’t bother us Weasley’s too much but I still didn’t want to take any chances.
“Dom, what should we do? Should we go spy on them now or go get the cloak first?”
Dom was still laughing from the stupid letter and my sadness quickly turned to anger as she continued.
“DOM!” I yelled, smacking her upside the head, “PAY ATTENTION!”
“Okay, okay,” she said, catching her breath. “Let’s just go get the cloak; he won’t be there for too long without us if we hurry!”
And so we set off, sprinting down the corridor.
“Severus Snape, Severus Snape!” I gasped, trying to catch my breath. The door to the Slytherin Common Room opened and I sprinted inside, running straight into Al.
“Bloody hell, why do I keep doing that?” I squealed, flipping my flaming red hair out of my face. Luckily Al didn’t fall down with me, and helped me up straight away. Dom broke into her fucking giggles again, so I decided to just ask Al myself.
“I need the cloak,” I said. “NOW!”
Or demand it, same thing.
Al just backed away from me, and turned to sprint up the stairs to his dorm. He came back, seconds later with his cloak and threw it at me without any questions. I kissed him on the cheek as an apology and thanks and dragged Dom outside the door with me. I threw the cloak over us and we began running up the stairs to the library. Thank God I’m in shape. And thank God for all of James’ hard Quidditch practices or I’d probably be dead right about now. I should give him a ‘thank you’ kiss too.
We made it to the library, and I had to stop outside to catch my breath. Dom wasn’t laughing anymore, luckily. She was so close to tears from exhaustion that I didn’t even feel bad for her. It’s exactly what she gets for laughing at me when I fall.
By the time we caught our breath enough and were sure to not make too much noise, five minutes had passed. I smacked myself in the head as I was about to open the door and Dom gave me a weird look.
“How are we supposed to get in there without causing questions?” I asked. I thought for a minute and finally made up my mind.
I said, “Accio Mrs. Norris,” and the beloved (not) cat of our caretaker, Mr. Filch, Mrs. Norris (the third) came shooting through the air at lightning speed. She started meowing at the top of her lungs, and I had to silence her and grab her by the scruff of the neck.
I opened the door slowly so that it wouldn’t make any noise and shoved the cat through the door. I then conjured up a Gobstone and threw it on the floor in front of her. She chased it happily through the library as if she forgot she had just been dragged through the school against her will. Man, cats are stupid.
Dom and I snuck ourselves in without being noticed and had to stifle our laughs as Madam Pince chased the cat around the room.
I spotted Scorpius right away, and he and Molly were watching the scene in front of them. They laughed together and were happily chatting away.
Stupid whore. Why would he go for her?
Dom and I sat there for what felt like an hour, propped up against a close-by shelf, watching them do homework. That’s all they did; BLOODY HOMEWORK! Sure, they talked a little here and there but not about anything interesting. This was by far the worst spy mission I had ever been on.
At quarter to nine, Scorpius announced he was leaving and I got to see first-hand their bloody hugs. She told him she would see him tomorrow, and winked at him. He smiled back and made his way back to the Slytherin common room.
I elbowed Dom in the ribs so she’d get up with me, and when she didn’t stir, I realized she was sleeping. I didn’t know how long she had been asleep, but I was so ticked off that I elbowed her even harder and she jumped up, gasping. I clasped my hand over her mouth before she could yell at me and after a few seconds a confused look grew on her face.
“The library,” I explained. “Spying on Scorpius…”
Her eyes widened and I finally took my hand away. “Oh, Rosie I’m so sorry! How long was I asleep?”
“No idea,” I replied. “He just left, though.”
“Well what happened?” she asked.
“Absolutely nothing,” I said. “Come on; let’s go back to the common room.”
We stood up, making sure to avoid Molly and realized we needed to create another distraction if we wanted to get out without being noticed.
I quietly tiptoed behind Madam Pince and whispered “Depulso,” banishing the chair from underneath her. She came crashing to the floor with a variety of swear words and Molly jumped up to help her.
Dom and I quickly made our departure from the library trying to conceal our laughs. Dom’s was rather raspy from all the laughing she had done earlier today and mine was pretty forced. I couldn’t get the image of Molly and Scorpius hugging out of my head, and with each passing minute, my heart felt even heavier than it had before.
