*A.N: I'm so sorry this capter took so long! I've gone back to school so I don't have as much time to write as I did before! Also, this chapter is considerably longer than the last 2! And I would like to add, I do not own anything! It all belongs to the amazing JK Rowling! ENJOY xxx*
Hermione grabbed her jacket and ran down the stairs and out through the painting.
“Hello there, Hermione. You seem to be in a hurry!” Genevieve said in a concerned voice.
“Oh, hi there. Didn’t see you there. Yeah, just trying to find my friend” replied Hermione in a rushed tone.
Blaine was huffing. He looked irritated. “We’re in a painting, we’re always here”, he snapped.
Genevieve rolled her eyes at her partner. “Be nice Blaine”, warned Genevieve.
Hermione laughed shakily, not really listening to a word they were saying.
‘I really need to find Ginny!!’
“See you guys later!” Hermione turned and ran down the long, tedious corridor. She could still hear the voices of Genevieve and Blaine.
As she ran, the paintings on the wall flew past, each bigger and more talkative than the last.
When she finally reached the Gryffindor Common Room, she was completely out of breath. She bent over holding her knees and puffing for what seemed like 10 minutes.
All of a sudden the painting opened and Hermione jumped out of her skin and fell back on the ground, hitting her head hard.
“Ouch! God damn it!” Other curses flew from Hermione’s mouth violently.
“Hello there, Hermione. Sorry about that.”
Hermione looked up to see the kind face of Neville Longbottom. He was smiling down at her. He stuck out his hand and offered her help.
“Oh hi there Neville,” she took his hand and hauled herself off the ground, “thanks”, she smiled appreciatively at him.
“Umm, so what were you doing outside? You do realise you can come in?” Asked Neville. He was frowning at Hermione. Everybody was concerned about her lately. It was weird.
“Oh yeah, just catching my breath. I ran here from the Head’s dorms”, Hermione gave him a smile “Anyway, I have to speak to Ginny; I’ll see you later, Neville!” She gave a small wave and walked past him and through the painting.
As she walked into the friendly room, she instantly missed it. The warmness of the room, the soft sofas and the friendly faces of her fellow Gryffindor.
She missed it immensely; sharing a door with her closest friends and not with her enemy; Malfoy. As soon as she thought of him, the memories of the half-naked incident came flooding back to her mind and she cheeks blushed bright red. She needed to speak to Ginny right away.
She crossed across the utterly red room and went up the steps leading to the Girls’ dorms.
She stepped through the door and almost ran back out. There were clothes being thrown, masses of clothes on the floor and four screaming girls running around the room frantically.
The four girls spun around and faced Hermione. “HERMIONE”, they all chorused at once. Suddenly she had four girls running at her and throw their arms around her.
The four girls consisted of: Ginny Weasley, Kara White, Hannah Young and Lara Taylor. They were all Ginny’s friends but Hermione got on well with them and it nice to spend girly time away from Harry and Ron sometimes. They were all nice and friendly and now she was in the same year as them, she found herself with them more and more.
“It’s so good to see you, ‘Mione!” Lara said as she clung onto Hermione’s neck.
Lara Taylor was a nice girl; she had blonde messy hair to her shoulders, large blue innocent eyes. Although her eyes were innocent, she really wasn’t. She was a trouble maker. Her smirk really could give Malfoy’s a run for its money.
She liked pranking people. The main tricks she pulled were directed at the Slytherins. Her favourite was turning their hair red. And one time she even managed to make all the food in the whole Hall attack them. Hermione had never laughed so hard in her life. It truly was a sight to watch the proud Slytherins getting covered all sorts of mushy food.
Lara’s partner in crime, Kara White was also a nice girl, maybe not so troublesome but she could still cause havoc if she wanted. She, also, had blonde hair, although Kara’s was smooth where as Lara’s was unruly and untamed. Lara and Kara had known each other since birth and were also best friends since then. Kara was the brains behind her and Lara’s pranks. Kara was like Hermione, nothing but O’s on her tests and always with a book in hand.
And then Hannah Young, she was the shy one of the group. Lara and Kara had nicknamed her ‘Mouse’ as rarely spoke; she was so quiet and only ever spoke to friends and teachers if she had been asked a question. She was just content on listening instead of speaking. She was great when you had problems because you could talk for hours and she would listen and even have good advice at the end of it. She was a small person and she had long chestnut hair with wide eyes that always seemed so overwhelmed and surprised.
Hermione loved hanging with them because they could always make her feel better. Hermione had known them 2nd year when they had been in 1st year.
“Hey Gin, can I speak to you for a sec, please?” Hermione asked gesturing to the door.
Ginny nodded and followed Hermione out the door.
“So wassup?” Ginny asked in a less than concerned voice.
“I kind of have a crush on someone. Well I think I do” Hermione said nervously.
Ginny laughed. “Awhh, lil Hermione has a crush on somebody! So, who’s the lucky guy?”
Hermione muttered something incoherent.
“Who?” Ginny’s face was serious now. She looked deeply worried.
“Well, maybe, uh, Malfoy.” Hermione couldn’t even look at Ginny in the eye.
“WHAT?” Ginny’s face was a picture. Hermione would have laughed but she didn’t think now would be the time to laugh as Ginny seriously looked murderous.
“What do you mean you think you fancy Malfoy?” Ginny was now whisper-yelling. Her face had turned as red as her hair.
“I’m not sure, I mean, it could be a just a passing fling”, words were tumbling out Hermione’s mouth. She had to say something to make Ginny shut up.
“So you’re saying, after 6 years of his constant tormenting and not to mention all the horrible things he’s said to you, you ‘think’ you fancy that ferret?”
Hermione stared at Ginny with wide and suddenly burst into tears. She held her face in her hands, her hair falling in front of her face, into her now wet eyes.
Ginny rolled her eyes and gave an angry sigh. “I’m sorry for yelling. Come here.” Ginny said as she opened up her arms and pulled a weeping Hermione against her.
Sobs and tears were emitting themselves from the girl. “I don’t know anymore Ginny. I don’t know what I’m feeling and it’s confusing me.”
This was the first time Hermione had really opened up to another person in the past few months. Although she was crying, she really was starting to feel at ease.
As her tears released themselves, her worries were lifting off her shoulders.
All those lives lost due to one power-ridden maniac. Voldemort. That one name that brought fresh tears to Hermione’s face. He may have been defeated but the pain he had caused was unforgettable and could never be reversed. No matter how many years passed, those innocent people would never be seen again. And nobody would ever forget.
As Ginny held Hermione, her own eyes produced tears. Ginny knew what Hermione was really crying about. It wasn’t Malfoy at all. This was about something that was on every person’s mind in the whole of the Wizarding World; the war, Voldemort and the losses they had faced. Whether it was loved ones or just simply their neighbour across the road. People would be missed.
Ginny and Hermione stood hugging; silently crying for another few minutes before finally they released each other.
They both had red puffy eyes but they still gave each other a small smile.
“So, what happened with Malfoy?” Ginny asked as she wiped her eyes with the edge of her sleeve.
Hermione shuddered as she remembered.
“I saw Malfoy with a towel around his waist” Hermione muttered with a blush creeping its way up to her cheeks and spreading across her face, making her palms sweaty and her forehead begin to get sticky. She huffed out a heavy breath and swept her hair out her face.
All the while, Ginny stood there with her jaw dangling. But due to Hermione’s embarrassment, she didn’t point how hilarious the red head looked.
“So? Are you sure you like him? It could just be your emotions flying all over the place. I mean come on, what are the chances of you actually liking Malfoy?”
Hermione’s face stretched into a large smile as the sudden thought hit her.
‘I don’t fancy Malfoy at all. I’m just all over the place right now. Ha! I don’t like him! Oh my god, Ginny’s such a genius!’
Hermione gave a small, shaky laugh. The pair still hadn’t gotten over their tears shed earlier.
The girls shared a small hug before Hermione pulled away from her friend and retreated back down the stairs leading in to the Common Room.
She exited through the Fat Lady’s portrait and headed horizontal and vertical on the stairs.
When she finally reached the Head’s Common Room, Blaine was seated on a narrow stool with a sketchpad in hand. His midnight hair shone and fell into his beautiful shinning eyes. His eyes were currently darting from the sketchpad to the figure stood a few foot in front of him.
The figure stood before him was infact Genevieve. She held a distant look on delicate face as she stared away, her head and gaze directing a little higher than Hermione’s height. In her hand she held a small daisy which looked quite a big larger in Genevieve’s small, pale hands.
She ran up to it. “Hello. What you doing?” Hermione asked in a curious - yet not noisy – voice.
Blaine started at Hermione for a while in disbelief. He looked down to the thick paged sketchpad then to all his equipment on a small table next to him. His equipment consisted of, many different sized brushes, pencils and a palette of paints which held a beautiful selection of multicoloured paints.
“Isn’t it obvious?” Blaine asked in a somewhat rude tone. His face held genuine shock and confusion.
Genevieve’s small figure silently moved from her statue like state. She looked around at Hermione, tilted her head, rolled her eyes and gave Hermione an apologetic look. She simply shook her head and returned to her previous form of a statue.
Hermione breathed out heavily and silently glared at Blaine.
“Insight”, Hermione muttered in dark tone with her teeth clenched tightly.
The portrait door swung open, folded back and slid into the wall. Although Hermione had seen it before, she couldn’t help experiencing that same impressed feeling as she did the very first time she saw it happen.
Hermione headed through the portrait. Malfoy was seated in the emerald armchair with a book so close to his face Hermione was surprised he could even read it at all.
He heard her come in and his gaze lifted from up from the book. He gave a smirk and returned his eyes to the book.
“Hello Granger” Malfoy said with a certain tone to his voice that Hermione presumed was smugness.
Hermione pursed her lips, thought for a second before promptly sitting down in the flaming red armchair; identical to the one Malfoy was seated in.
“Malfoy.” Hermione replied in a falsely polite voice.
Hermione continued to stare at the blonde headed boy. She began to jig her leg, tapping her foot. Draco closed his eyes for a second before snapping them open sharply and glaring at Hermione.
“Will you stop that? I’m trying to read!” Draco snapped as he scowled at her leg bobbing up and down.
Hermione stared at him for a second before muttering something that Draco thought sounded a lot like ‘Drama Queen’.
“Fine.” Hermione huffed as she crossed her legs.
Draco returned his gaze to the book. Hermione watched him for a second. His blonde hair tumbled gracefully into those stormy grey eyes. He was wearing a grey polo shirt that hugged his torso just enough to see his well built chest. He also wore a pear a black jeans that made his whole figure seem a lot taller than he actually was. He had folded his long, gangly legs under his body.
‘Do I really like him?’
She was considering this when suddenly Malfoy spoke up.
“Are you just going to stare me Granger?” He was staring at her with one perfect blonde eyebrow raised.
She snapped out her trance and realised she had been staring at him the whole time.
“Uh….Sorry. I’m just really tired and lately I’ve had a lot of things on my mind and-“Hermione trailed on before she was rudely cut off by one annoyed looking Slytherin.
“Listen Granger, I was simply asking if you were going to be staring at me all day. However I do not remember asking how your day was. To be honest, I do not care for chit chat. Especially not with you either” Malfoy spat in the direction of the wide eyed brunette.
‘I really don’t like him.’
As her eyes stung slightly and her stomach twisted, she gathered the contents of her bag from the coffee table and held them tightly in her arms, spun around sharply and done a quick pace to the stairs leading to her own personally room; no Malfoy.
Once she reached her room, she slammed the door shut.
She was so frustrated she threw all her books down onto her bed and sat down on the edge.
‘Well it’s settled. I definitely do NOT fancy Malfoy.’
She sat in silence for a few more minutes before she decided she would write a response to Georgina.
She got up, sat down at the large desk, pulled out a quill, a large pot of ink and a piece of parchment.
So happy to hear about you and Brandon! So sweet! When I get back, us three will have to hang out sometime. Although I don’t think Brandon will want to get his nails done with us…. At Hogwarts we don’t ‘turn people into frogs’. We learn the art of magic and learn to control it. Anyway, the next time I’m going to be home is in February so make sure stay out of trouble whilst I’m gone; I am not fixing it with magic like last time.
Ok, so if hypothetically, a girl thought she liked a guy that was horrible to her, does said girl still supposed to have some hypothetical feelings for said boy even after said boy was especially mean to said girl?
Sorry if this letter was somewhat confusing! I miss you loads too and I promise we will have a sleepover when I get back!
All my love,
She carefully folded the letter; making sure it was folded equally before she slipped it into the envelope, got out her chair and walked over to the window where Lucie was carefully sat on the window sill.
She carefully grabbed a ribbon from her pocket and neatly wrapped it around the letter, attaching it to Lucie’s leg and opening the window.
“Good girl Lucie. I’ll see you when I get back home. Make sure Georgina gives you attention, she is your owner!” Hermione laughed. She had bought Lucie for Georgina when Hermione had first started Hogwarts.
Lucie pecked her hand in simple affection before turning around and taking flight through the window.
Hermione smiled and looked out the window. The weather had begun to chill. The crisp air tickled at Hermione’s eyes and made them begin to water. She quickly shut the window and walked back to her bed and laid down.
She hadn’t realised how tired she was until she felt her eyes slowly drooping downwards. She tried to fight it but soon gave up after it made her feel even more tired; so she just laid there and let the blackness overwhelm her.
She woke up to the harsh light that was flooding in from the windows that didn’t have the curtains closed.
She looked down to see she was still wearing her clothes from Saturday. Her top was creased with deep wrinkles cast into it. And her jeans felt tight where they were twisted and over worn.
She pulled herself up and twisted her legs over the side of the bed. She groaned and pushed her weight off the edge off the bed and stalked to her bathroom.
She went to the bath and turned on the hot water tap. She grabbed a red towel and threw it on the floor next to the bath and went back to her room to grab a book. Once she was in the bath, she grabbed her book and started to read.
Hermione must have been reading for about an hour before she heard a constant angry knock on her bedroom door. Hermione cursed before putting her book down on the floor and grabbing her towel and wrapping around her body when she was out.
Hermione ran back into her room and was about to throw some clothes on but the constant knocking still sounded throughout the room.
Hermione cursed furiously and threw the clothes on the floor before storming to the door and throwing it open, making the hinges groan in protest.
“WHAT?” Hermione leaned forward and yelled out at the infuriating knocker.
Hermione came face to face but the one and only Malfoy. She silently drew back as far as she could from the frown on Malfoy’s face.
Malfoy looked down at Hermione and laughed. It was an evil, mocking laugh; not at all comforting and if definitely didn’t want Hermione to laugh along with him.
“What do you want?” Hermione repeated, crossing her arms around her petite waist, trying to save as much her dignity she could possibly manage.
Hermione and Draco stared each other up for a few more seconds before Draco spoke up.
“McGonagall passed by and gave us our Head badges”, he said as he pulled something gold out of his pocket and handed it to Hermione. Hermione took it and tried to touch Draco’s hand as little as possible.
“Thank You” Hermione replied in a curt tone. She was leaning against the door with her arms wrapped around herself, badge in hand.
Malfoy looked her up one more time before he turned around and silently walked down the stairs. Hermione took a last glance at the back of his head before she, herself, turned around and closed the door.
She turned around and stared at the golden object in her hand. She squealed and gave a wide smile. This is what she had wanted ever since she was a 1st and she saw Rosie Brown - the Head Girl at the time – wearing it proudly on her chest. Hermione had yearned for this for so long it felt good to be able to run her fingers across the golden letters’ HG.
She smiled one more time before she set it down next to her bed on the little cabinet that now held all her personal objects.
She continued on through her room to the bathroom and gathered all her clothes from the bathroom floor. She put all the clothes into the dirty wash basket.
She was pulling some new clothes out of her chest of drawers; a pair of black skinny jeans and a white vest along with a pair of white converse.
She pulled on her jacket and left though her door and out through the portal. Instead of talking to Genevieve and Blaine, she gave a small wave and quickly gave a swift walk in the other direction.
‘I have no idea what sort of mood Blaine is in; I’m so not risking it….’
Once she got to the Gryffindor Common Room, many people were up and fresh faced even though it was only 9:30am.
She quickly spotted Ginny’s bright hair amongst the crowds. She was seated with Kara, Lara and Hannah on the big comfy sofa that was placed by the fire in the far end of the room.
Hannah was holding an extremely thick book, with a deep blue worn away cover and pretty swirls with a golden lettered title. Hermione recognised the book immediately; Hogwarts A History.
She smiled as she remembered when she had read it for the first time; she was so innocent and naïve and not aware of all the tears that would be shed in years to come.
“Hey girlies”, Hermione said as she sat on the floor next to Ginny’s legs.
“Hey Hermione!” Ginny and Hannah said sweetly.
Lara grunted in Hermione’s direction with a face full of food and Kara gave a bark laugh and waved; grinning.
Ginny leapt up and dragged Hermione by the arm to the less crowded sided of the room.
“Hey, what you doing-“Hermione started but was soon cut off by Ginny.
“So, the Malfoy situation?” Ginny’s eyes were wide and she was leaning forward from the anticipation of Hermione’s answer.
“Yeah…about that, I’m sorry for scaring you but now I know I really don’t like him.” Hermione said and she nodded as if she were convincing herself in her mind.
“Are you absolutely sure Hermione?” replied the red head with a stern look.
Hermione laughed. She loved Ginny so much. “Yes.”
Ginny pursed her lips. “Okay, if you say so.” She quickly changed the subject; “Do you wanna go get some food from the kitchens? I’m starving.”
Hermione snickered. It was only half nine and Ginny was already ‘starving’. She was alike Ron more than she thought.
“Sure, why not.” Hermione shrugged and left throughout the painting.
As they were walking down the long, well lit corridors, the girls turned a sharp corner and the pair bumped into something hard.
Hermione felt herself fall back and the air beneath her disappeared in whoosh. As she hit the ground, the major impact made her fall back and smack her head back onto the floor.
She laid on the floor with her eyes shut but immediately opened them when she heard two familiar voices. She opened her eyes and saw two mini Satan’s stood right there in front of her. They were the faces of Draco Malfoy and Blaise Zabini.
She looked up. Ginny had managed to stay on her feet although her face was all flustered and she was gaping at Blaise.
“Watch where you walk Granger.” Malfoy said viciously. He was sporting an evil glare and an evil voice to go with it.
“Sorry about that ladies.”The soft voice of Blaise Zabini sounded out through the empty corridors
Hermione, Ginny and even Draco stared at the boy in shock. Draco threw a shocked look –that looked very much like a glare- at the Blaise. Blaise shrugged and looked back towards the girls.
“Umm. It’s fine; it was our faults as well,” replied Ginny with a blush upon her cheeks.
Hermione and Draco shared identical looks on their faces; wide eyes and their mouths forming a perfect O shape.
Hermione finished gaping and using Ginny’s arm, she pulled herself off the floor. Ginny didn’t even realise her arm was being used as a rope; she simply stared at the good looking boy stood in front of her.
“Yeah…sorry about that but we have to go and-“Hermione started but soon got cut off by Blaise.
“Ginny, would you like to go to Hogsmeade with me?” Blaise asked, staring at Ginny with beautiful amber eyes.
Ginny stuttered for a while before answering; “Uhh, I would love to Blaise.” She gave a bright smile. All the while, Draco and Hermione playing spectators in this very strange encounter.
Blaise gave an enormous smile. “Great, I’ll be outside the Gryffindor common at 12 o’clock next weekend.”
Blaise turned around started to walk away whilst stood there frozen. He broke from his stiff stance and caught up to Blaise’s retreating figure. In the distance, Hermione and Ginny could still make out the frantic shouting of Draco.
Hermione continued to gawk Ginny until; “What the hell was that all about?” She cried out rudely in outrage and disgust.
“What?” Ginny asked innocently with a shrug of the shoulders.
Hermione bore her eyes into the side of Ginny’s head.
‘What the hell? I thought I fancied Malfoy and then Ginny comes along and decides to go out with Zabini?! What’s wrong with her?’
Ginny gave another shrug and turned around and started to walk away. Hermione stared at her friend in disbelief.
Hermione, realising that she was being ditched by Ginny without any answers, started a jog then quickened her pace. “Hey! Wait up!” She quickened her pace again. “Slow down!” Hermione was burst out into a full run. “OI! WEASLEY! SLOW DOWN!” Ginny laughed and started to run as well.
