“Have you got your wand?”
“Have you got your suitcase?”
“Yes, I have everything! Calm down Ryan!” I shouted at my brother after he finished his ridiculous lists of rules.
“I’m just checking! I’m worried about you Lex” He replied.
‘Theres no need to be, I’m staying with the Weasleys, okay! Not Lord Voldemort!” I spat back as I pulled on my boots.
“I have reason to be worried Lex, I mean the Weasleys are a family that are very associated with Voldemort”
‘Calm down Ryan, they seemed like really lovely people” Taylor piped in, “Besides, I’m sure Lexi will have fun with them”
“I will, I’m looking forward to it. A summer of chilling at Shell Cottage, relaxing on the beach and eating Mrs. Weasley’s amazing french food! We’ll probably be having pain au chocolate everyday!” I squealed excitedly.
“Well, Alexis, I just want you to know that if this doesn’t work out for you or if you miss us or anything, you always have room here” He reminded me.
“She knows that Ryan, but it is Lexi’s choice where she wants to go, and it’s not like she is completely abandoning us!” Taylor smiled. Ryan acted like the big baby he was and ignored her comforting hand on his shoulder. “Alright Lex, ease your brothers mind by reminding him of the rules that you will abide by”
‘Well, firstly, I shall be coming here for Dinner every friday night and that is non-negotiable. Therefore I can update my brother on my week, which he should already know a lot about due to the letters that must be sent a minimum of twice per week. This is followed by the fact that I will be staying at Dom’s house every night and be polite and helpful to her parents, though if I feel that they are taking advantage of my kindness, I will owl my brother for him to pick me up immediately. I will also be seeing no boys during my holiday.’ I repeated. “Did I forget anything?”
“No” Ryan mumbled.
“Don’t be such a baby!’ I told him, ‘You’ll see me again in less than a week!”
Our little argument was interuppted by a sudden knock on the door.
“I’ll get it” Taylor anounced, “You guys can start saying your goodbyes because knowing your brother it is going to take some time’
“Are you going to give me a hug or am I just going to be leaving here with the big brother who I adore acting like a sulking brat?” I teased.
“Come here” Ryan pulled me into a big hug, holding me close to his chest.
“You know your going to have to let me go so I can go with the Weasleys in a moment, don’t you?” I asked him.
“I don’t want to” He mumbled into my hair.
“I’m sixteen, I’m not your baby sister anymore”
“You’ll always be my kid sister to me”
“You have a lovely home, Taylor” Dom’s mother said as she admired the small flat.
‘Thanks, it’s not much but its enough for us all” Taylor laughed.
Dom ran towards me and gave me a hug, it was only yesterday that the events in diagon alley had taken place. We gave our usual greeting and it felt like no time before I was about to be whisked away with the Weasleys.
‘Have you ever done side-along apparition Lexi?” Mr. Weasley asked me as he grabbed my trunk that was full and ready to go.
“No, never yet” I said, almost leaning back afraid. From what I’d heard, your first time apparating was not a pleasant experience.
“It’s not as bad as they say it is, honest!” Ryan told me.
‘Besides, I’ll be there the whole time!” Dom laughed.
“I’ll see you on friday” I told Taylor as she leaned in for a hug.
“I’m gonna miss having you around here” Taylor whispered, “Oh, and feel free to break your brother’s ‘no boy’ rule”
“Will do” I giggled.
“See you later!” I waved, and moments later I felt a horrible feeling in my stomach. Next thing I knew everything went black; I was pressed very hard from all directions; I could not breathe, there were iron bands tightening around my chest; my eyeballs were being forced back into his head and my ear-drums were being pushed deeper into my skull.
And that is what it feels like to apparate.
“Welcome to Shell Cottage” Dom announced as she helped me up off the ground. I found myself standing on the edge of a cliff, overlooking the sea. A small cottage was in view, with walls adorned with sea shells. It had obviously been extended to accompany the size of the Weasley family. It seemed homely.
“Wow, it looks lovely’ I approved.
‘Thank you Lexi, do you want to come inside?” Mrs. Weasley asked.
“Thank you Mr. Weasley” I smiled as he helped me carry my trunk through the small door.
“It’s no problem Alexis, but remember, it’s Bill and Fleur now” He laughed.
“Sorry, thanks Bill”
“You and Dom will be sharing a room” He laughed as he dragged my trunk towards the door that Dom was currently leading me to.
“Welcome to your bedroom till September!” She announced flinging the door open. I was immediately met with the bright red and gold colors that adorned Dom’s bedroom walls.
“Wow Dom, red and gold, you’re very loyal to your house!” I joked.
“I know” She smiled.
“It is so colorful!” I grinned as I pulled my trunk towards the empty bed that I assumed was mine. The other looked just like Dom’s bed from Hogwarts; a complete and utter mess.
“So I take it this is my bed” I asked her.
“What gave it away? The fact that it was clean?” A soft voice said from the door.
“Vicky!” I shouted running and jumping towards her. There is just one thing I need to announce here. I. Love. Victoire Weasley. I mean who doesn’t? She is just the most likable person since ever.
“It’s nice to see you too Lexi” She laughed as I hugged her.
“You’re getting married!” I said to her, as I spotted the rock that was on her finger.
“Wow Lex, she had no idea, not like she’s been engaged since christmas” Dom said sarcastically.
‘I know but it just seems really weird now, I mean you’re getting married!” I announced.
“I know!” Vicky cried excitedly. “And now you’re going to be sitting there watching me”
“I can not wait” I told her. “I still just can’t believe that your getting married!”
“Isn’t your brother already married though?” She asked. Victoire and Ryan had been in the same year at school, although Vicky was in Gryffindor and Ryan in Ravenclaw. They had been quite good friends, and at one point, Dom and I came up with a plan to have them marry so we could nearly officially be sisters. Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be, though we were both happy with our siblings partners eventually. Which reminds me....
“Wheres Teddy?” I asked Vicky, looking around for her fiance.
“He’s at work at the moment, but you’ll see him at dinner later’ She smiled.
“Oh yeah, Dinner” Bill said, slapping his forehead with his palm, ‘I forgot to tell you, sunday nights we always go over to my parents for dinner with all my family”
“Okay” I said surprised. Well, I don’t know why I was so surprised I mean, Dom always said she was really close to her family. I think scared is more the right word. Yeah, scared, definitely scared. Why? Well isn’t it obvious? I am the charity case, the practically homeless stray that Bill and Fleur have oh so kindly taken into their house. And whilst we are on the topic of embarrassment, where you at the station? I think then you’d understand my embarrassment.
“Don’t sound so worried, they liked you before the encounter at the station, I’m sure everyone will still love you now’ Vicky said, sensing my uncomfortableness.
“It just seems really awkward though’ I argued with her.
“Relax, you’ll be sitting between me and Dom, nothing will go wrong. Besides, we don’t leave till four O’clock, you’ve got hours till we need to be there.”
Four O’clock came around really quickly and I soon found myself strolling up to the Weasley household, Dom excited at my side.
Louis, her hyperactive eight year old brother was running around the area as if he was on a broom, and making funny noises. Thats what eight year old boys like apparently.
Mr. Weasley didn’t bother to knock on the door, but rather opened it up as if it were home (which it apparently was). Louis zoomed through the front door and ran strait up to a plump very old woman, with greying red hair.
“Hi Nan!” Dom said as she gave the old woman a hug.
“Good afternoon mum” Bill said, following the exact same thing Dom had done. “This is Dom’s friend from Hogwarts, Alexis Moore” He introduced me.
“It’s nice to meet you Alexis” Mrs. Weasley told me, opening her arms to give me a great big hug.
“Lexi’s fine, it’s a pleasure to meet you too Mrs. Weasley” I told her.
“Molly’s fine dear” She told me, before looking down and examining me. “Look how skinny you are! Has my son not been feeding you and his daughters at all? Come on you three we need to get some meet on your bones!” She gestured to Dom, Vicky and I.
“So are we the first here?” Victoire asked, walking through the house and into the garden.
“Don’t worry Vic, everyone else is here but Uncle Ron and Aunt Hermione!” Bill laughed as a thin but tall man with glasses and red hair came out to greet us.
“This is Uncle Percy, he’s a bit pompous and if you know whats good for you do not and I repeat do not let him draw you into a conversation about the ministry, you’ll be there for hours. A cruciatus curse would be less painful” Dom whispered. “Opps, sorry!” She whispered as I flinched at her last statement.
“Is she Molly and Lucy’s dad?” I asked her.
“How did you guess?” Dom asked sarcastically.
“Well I wouldn’t guess Molly unless I knew she was Lucy’s sister, but everything you’ve said about this guy just screams Lucy to me.” I muttered back, so only Dom could hear.
“Uncle Percy!” Dom shouted, calling the man’s attention over to us. “This is gonna be like drinking a healing potion quick but painful” She whispered in my ear.
“It’s nice to see you Dominique” He nodded at her. Like nodded, how was he so formal?
“This is my friend Lexi, she’s staying with us for the summer” She replied, before dragging me away towards an army of red heads.
“Hey everyone!” Dom shouted, gaining all her families attention. “This is my friend Lexi, she’s staying with us for the Summer!”
A collective greeting of smiles and hellos were given before Dom dragged me towards two of her cousins.
Lucy was going into her third year and was such a rule follower it was unbelievable. She has a list of rules, well more of a book. Obviously she was placed in Ravenclaw, because she never would have the courage to break a single one of these rules, yet be able to be considered brave.
Molly was the complete opposite of her younger sister. She had just left school and was in Gryffindor house along with me. Her hair was red like her fathers, but she had a smaller face and looked like her mum. There was one thing I’d usually go to Molly for; a laugh. She wasn’t like Freddie or Potter, who as much as I hate to admit it, had pranks that made me almost wet myself with laughter. She was more of a girl’s girl funny, and rather than using her unlimited supply of Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes products, she used her own magic power of comedy. I was surprised that she was even related to her father and sister, though I have no idea about her mother.
“Alexis?” Lucy asked, noticing my presence. “What a pleasent surprise”
“She’s here all summer Luce so you better get used to it” was Dominique’s cheerful response as she gave Molly a hug and fell back onto the deck chair that was awaiting her.
“Aunt Audrey, this is my friend Lexi, she’s staying with us for the summer” Dom announced as she pulled out her sunglasses. I sat down on the deck chair next to her that was just screaming out my name. I smiled politely at this Audrey person.
“How many aunts and uncles do you have?” I whispered to Dom, as another set of people came through the doors.
“On dad’s side? A lot” Dom laughed.
“So, Lexi, I didn’t know you were staying with Dom this summer?” Molly asked.
“Yeah, well nor did I until the last minuet!” I told her, searching through my bag for my sunglasses.
“So, what brought you to stay with Dominique?” Audrey asked.
“Well...” I began.
“She wanted to and I invited her Aunt Audrey lets leave it at that” Dom interrupted.
“Dominique! Lexi!” Bill called from behind me. I twisted around to see Bill coming towards me with an army of redheads who I assumed to be more members of his family.
“This is my brother Charlie and my brother Ron and his wife Hermione” Bill introduced me.
“Yeah, it’s nice to meet you all” I smiled politely.
“Hey Hugo!” Dom cried out as the little boy ran and embraced her in a hug.
“Hey Dom” He cried back excitedly. He was reasonably tall and looked to be around eleven years of age.
“This is my little cousin Hugo, he’ll be starting Hogwarts in September” She announced. “You know Rose”
Rose Weasley was tall with ginger hair that had seemed to become more tamed over the years. She was just entering her fourth year, having finished her third last year. She was a smart, bright witch, but not nearly as studious as Lucy. She was a Gryffindor like most of the Weasleys.
“Hermione! Finally your here!” the voice of a old man said from behind us. The man was like Mrs. Weasley, old and greying but still had a caring and almost childlike sparkle in his eye. “I can’t get that barbecue thing to work, can you help me?”
“Sure Arthur, have you got any matches?” She asked.
“Granddad!” Dom shouted, startling me. “This is my friend Lexi, she’s staying at mine for the summer!”
It was amazing that Dom had the ability to shout over people so nonchalantly and so loudly. I was so use to this, but the suddenness of when Dom would shout could always catch me off guard. Especially in calm, serene moments such as this.
“It’s nice to meet you Lexi!” Her grandfather shouted over the heads.
“It’s nice to meet you too Mr. Weasley” I shouted back, having the courtesy to look at the excited old man’s face. No one else seemed to care about our loud discussion.
“It’s Arthur dear please! If you call me Mr. Weasley, I’ll be calling you Alexis!” He guffawed.
“Lex, you know Fred and Roxy” Dom introduced me. “This is Uncle George and Auntie Ang, their parents”
“It’ nice to meet you Lexi” George smirked at me. Obviously James had told him about me as well. I think I might have been getting a small reputation around here.
“It’s nice to meet you too George” I smiled, trying to hide the awkwardness that I knew would come.
“The barbecues on!” Mr. Weasley announced.
“Great” everyone shouted.
“Dom?” I asked, “What’s a barbecue?”
“It’s like this muggle cooking device, it’s like a oven thing, except it’s used outdoors” She explained to me.
“Oh, Thanks” I replied.
“So is everyone here your family?” I whispered.
“Yeah, everyone is related to me” she answered.
“Now I feel like an impostor!” I mumbled back.
“Don’t worry Lex! Teddy will be here soon and he’s a bit of an outsider as well!” She told me.
“Hasn’t he known your family his entire life?” I asked.
“Yeah, but still, you’ll feel comfortable soon enough” She smiled. “Come on, just one more introduction to do”
“If it’s to your uncle Harry I think I need to apologize first” I reminded her.
“Oh, they’re forgiving people, theres barely any need to” She said as she grabbed my hand and dragged me towards the last people I was yet to officially meet.
“Hi Uncle Harry! Aunt Ginny” Dom smiled as she skipped over to them. “This is my friend Lexi, you met at the station? She’s staying with us all at Shell Cottage for the summer”
“It’s nice to meet you Lexi” Ginny smiled, although I could feel her eyes almost examining me, the girl who’s parents were crazy, best friends with her niece and whom her eldest son was ‘in-love’ with.
“It’s nice to meet you again as well Mr. and Mrs. Potter” I said shaking both of their hands whilst my cheeks reddened with embarassment, “And I’m terribly sorry about the incident at the station”
“It’s no problem Lexi, it wasn’t your fault” Mr. Potter told me, “I’m assuming that is why you’re staying with Dominique, because of your parents?”
“Yeah, we kind of got into a little fight over the whole matter...” I said, bringing my hand to my head. This was really embarrassing.
“Well, we won’t tell anyone if you don’t want us to” Mrs. Potter promised.
“That would be great!” Dom smiled, and began to guide me off. “See, I told you they were very forgiving”
“Thank you Dom, you were right” I replied gratefully. “So is that everyone now?”
“Not quite” She said, steering me off to the small red head that had been hanging off Mr. Potter’s hand at the statement. “Lily, this is my friend Lexi, she goes to school with me”
“Are you in Gryffindor?” Lily asked, jumping up to attention.
“Yeah, I share the same dorm as Dom” I told her.
“In September, when I start Hogwarts, I’m going to be in Gryffindor!” She announced. “What did you say her name was?”
“Lexi. Alexis Moore” Dom told her, a smirk on her face.
“Are you James’ girlfriend?” She asked.
“No, I am not you’re brothers girlfriend” I told her rolling my eyes.
“Were you ever James’ girlfriend?” She asked again, looking almost confused.
“Nope” I replied.
“Will you ever be James’ girlfriend?” She asked.
“Yep!” A voice came from behind me. I turned around to see the person who’s girlfriend I was currently not, have never been and will never will be; James Potter.
