Gorgeous Chapter Image by nostalgia. @TDA!

A/N: This is not so much a "Chapter 1" as it is a prologue to set the story up. This is mostly just Rose telling you all the background information, but Rose narrating it gives you an idea of her personality. Chapter 2 is close to being finished so stick around to see Rose actually interacting with people! *ahem* Scorpius *ahem*

For as long as I can remember I have been a nobody. A “nobody” is defined as “a person of no importance”, which is essentially what I am. I was born into an average family (as average as a family can be when your parents saved the wizarding world), with average looks, an average personality and an average outlook on life. Basically, I just want to get out of school alive and have some meaningless job at the Ministry. That’s normal, right?

Being a nobody, my goal in life is to have 34 cats in an apartment in London and have a huge stash of cookie dough ice cream in my freezer. As much as I want to be alone anyways, I think I would be alone even if I didn’t want it that way. I’m maybe not the prettiest girl in the room. I have average red hair with “movement” as my mum likes to call it (I refer to it as bushy) and average blue eyes, like my dad. I’m paler than most girls with a sprinkle of freckles dotting my nose which just make me look like even more of a loser than I already am. Over the summer at least, my hair has started to tame slightly and I’ve filled out quite a bit, leaving behind my atrocious ruler figure of years past. To make it worse, I somehow manage to scare everyone away from me with my temper (compliments of Dad), my constant need to be studying (compliments of Mum) and my bloody Gryffindor pride (I guess I could pin that one on both of them). To be honest, I’m kind of a scary, not very pretty, ultra organized adolescent. Yep. Forever alone.

Unfortunately, my master plan to coast through Hogwarts unnoticed seems to be constantly foiled by Scorpius Malfoy. Who names their kid Scorpius anyways? I mean the kid was cursed from birth to be as annoying and ridiculous as his name! But in all honesty, Malfoy has been the bane of my existence since I first stepped onto Platform 9 ¾ . I remember my dad telling me to beat him in every subject and not to get too close. I managed to meet his first expectation with flying colours; I successfully beat Malfoy in every subject achieving all O’s. Scorpius was never far behind being the second best student in our year, but I always managed to outshine him, which made him furious. However, my father’s second instruction to not get too close to the boy was a little more difficult to achieve. It seemed like Malfoy needed to constantly have some excuse to tease me or annoy me or just make my life miserable in general. If my mother hadn’t raised me better I swear I would be in Azkaban already for murder.

There was always something that Malfoy did to annoy me. In first year, when he sat behind me in Transfiguration, he would pull on my braids and as soon as he knew how, he began to try to singe the ends. He would get me in trouble by getting Peeves to dump ink on my head in the entrance hall or colour my eggs green at breakfast or sabotage my potions and in return I would hex him into oblivion. My father had taken the liberty to teach me all the spells he could to fight back against Malfoy. But somehow, it always ended up being my fault. In turn, I was forced to spend hours upon hours with Malfoy in detention.

At one point I thought I had finally won. When I became prefect and Malfoy hadn’t, I swore that Slytherin would be left with no points by the end of the year if he bothered me at all. But of course Karma hates me so when the fifth year Slytherin prefect, some idiot named Charlie Nott, decided to try to burn down Hagrid’s hut and was expelled, guess who was promoted to prefect. Since that plan backfired we had returned to our game of him antagonizing me and me retaliating with every spell I knew. It was a tiresome game, but I had to play it or admit defeat. Sometimes I wish we could just agree to never speak to each other again and move on with our lives, but Malfoy has absolutely no intention of that.

When I had finally gotten my Hogwarts letter this announcing that I was Head Girl, I was sure that this would put a stopper on any drama left between Malfoy and me. But as luck would have it, my cousin, Al, who for Merlin knows why, was best friends with Malfoy, told me later that day that my arch-nemesis would be Head Boy. I was choked. Beyond choked. Irrevocably betrayed by Professor McGonagall for pairing me up with that prat. Needless to say, it was going to be a long year if I had to spend it with Malfoy organizing everything from patrol schedules, to school dances, to who knows what else. And something told me that Malfoy was not going to take it easy on me.
