Oh you could just pretend to be
With her all day,
Remember the feeling
When you first held hands today
James Potter sighed and sat down on the armchair near the fireplace. Today wasn’t any different from the past few days. There’s still not much progress with him and Lily Evans. Well, not yet. But there will be and James was sure of it.
In the meanwhile, though, it doesn’t hurt to just keep on thinking of her. And the way they sort of held hands at Potions today. Sort of cause she just tugged on his hand to snap him out of his reveries.
Reveries about her. Again.
James sighed and placed his head on his hand. The feeling of her soft hand tugging on his felt…nice. He got those stupid moths in his stomach, again and there was a quick shock that tempted him to squeeze it and never let it go.
Cause it felt right. It felt so right. Her hands belong to him. And so was his to hers.
In your favorite white dress
Smiling at you as if
She thinks that you're the best
James snapped his eyes open. Lily was standing in front of him, grinning.
“You dozed off.” She said, tucking a lock of red hair behind her ear. She was looking radiant as ever and she was wearing that lacy white dress that fell right above her knees.
James felt overwhelmed. It was his favorite.
“I did?” he said stupidly, glancing around him. He wasn’t in the common room, anymore. He was in…a forest. They’re in the forbidden forest?! “What are you doing here?”
“Well, I came to wake you up, wanker.” Lily replied, grinning at him and turning around. “Come on, we’ll go to that tree.” She pointed to the huge tree that looks exactly like the Whomping Willow.
“What?!” James stood up hastily. “I don’t think we should be here.” he can’t help but say. He means what if something happened to her? Never mind him but her. He can’t possibly let it happen, no. Just no.
Lily stopped walking and laughed. “What? Your Head Boy tendencies swallowing your Marauder-ness? I have to admit, Potter. I’m disappointed.”
James rolled his eyes. “Very funny, Evans. You’re getting a life.” he replied smoothly.
“Yes and you’re losing yours. We somehow fit, don’t you think?” she flashed him another smile before continuing to walk.
James began to follow her ignoring the part where his heart almost fell after realizing what Lily just said. “Oi, Lily! Where are we going?” he called out, just to ease his deafeningly beating heart.
She didn’t respond and kept on walking.
“Seriously!” he called out again, walking faster to catch up with her but she quickened her pace.
“Tell you what?” She yelled. “Race you to the tree!” she broke into a run, making James broke into one, too.
Everything was just absurd and perfect at the same time, James can’t help but think.
He was going quickly and due to his Quidditch reflexes, he was outrunning her. “Ha, you shouldn’t have said that,” he commented as he fall in step with her.
“Cheater!” she laughingly yelled, instead, still running.
“Say what you wanna say, love. I’ll still win.” James grinned as he made a dash for it.
“Ouch!” she suddenly yelled, before making a loud thud.
James stopped quickly and turned around. Lily was on the ground, grimacing in pain. He quickly ran over to her. “What happened?” he asked concernedly.
This is his fault. His entire fault. What if—?
“You’re gonna lose!” Lily suddenly laughed, briskly running to the tree.
Grinning, James yelled. “CHEATER!” he ran over to her quickly.
Lily rested her back on the tree. “It’s called Tactics, love.” She panted, looking up at the tree.
James rolled his eyes. He can’t believe he was outsmarted. “Okay, fine. You win. Now what does this tree have to do with anything?” he asked, tracing her gaze.
“You’ll see.” She grinned, climbing up the tree easily.
James noticed it was growing darker and that they should head inside but some part of him just want to be with the only girl he wants to spend eternity with.
“Dammit Evans,” he murmured. Stop doing this to me.
Oh you could be her soldier
Her knight in shining armor
I'm sure you wanna make her feel
how much you love her
“It’s beautiful.” Lily said, glancing at the setting sun and the burst of colors that painted the skies. “Hey, James! Come up. It’s amazing.” She called down to him, grinning.
She woke him up, dared him a race to the tree, used his tactics against him and now, calling him up to the tree with her? James almost tried smacking himself to see if he was dreaming.
But then, if this was only just a dream…then why not just go along with it?
“Oh?” James called up. “I think we should head back.” He said, trying to annoy her.
“You’re such a kill joy!” Lily said, shifting her position from the tree branch. “Just get you’re arse up here, will you?”
James laughed. “Nope. I think I’m going back, Lilykins. You be careful, huh?” he started walking away.
Lily huffed. “Fine!” she called out. “I don’t need you—oh!”
James quickly turned around. Lily was slipping and falling from the tree. Suddenly, he was running. He was running and he was catching her. Fear and adrenaline was running in him and…
And you wish to God that
She can see the world in your eyes
So she can realize that
She's the girl in your mind
They stared at each other. Their face merely inches from each other. James had that sudden lump in his throat. He wanted to very much tell her how he feels. Right there and right now. But he…can’t.
Maybe not this moment, he thought. Not yet.
And you don't mind
If you don't make it out alive
Cause you knew right from the start
that she's such a boy killer
She cleared her throat. The moment was gone.
James gently put her down. And she thanked him, her eyes avoiding him and blushing.
James never wanted to take anything as a signal from her. She can be so confusing and mystifying and he wanted to sometimes just be mad at her for she’s the reason for this unending bittersweet agony. Yet he couldn’t. It wasn’t her fault, anyway. It was his. It was his fault for falling for her in the first place. And honestly, he doesn’t mind all that torture of not being with her. He kind of knew it from the start that if he fell in love with her, it wouldn’t be that easy.
And I couldn't believe we're dreaming
I couldn't believe we're leaving this world
for one with more fantasy, just you and me
So that tonight we both can finally be
They started walking around again, some awkward tension between them. James can’t help notice that Lily was fidgeting. Out of instinct, he suddenly reached out and held her hand in place.
Lily stopped and gave him a weird look. He flashed her one of his charming smiles. She blushed but didn’t pull her hand away. James was bubbling.
“Do you still wanna be up at that tree?” he asked casually, trying to hide his happiness that he was holding Lily’s soft hand.
“Why not?” James asked. “I promise I’d be here to catch you again.” He added, winking.
She laughed. God, how he love that laugh. “I knew that, Prince Charming,” she said. “It’s just that I don’t need a tree, anymore.”
She stopped walking and turned around to face him. “I’ve always got what I need.”
How could he not love her? She was just…perfect. And she was his everything. Everything. James suddenly realized that he can never want anything anymore when he was with her. Darn it, he sounds like a female but damn, it was true.
And then he was inching closer, and she wasn’t holding back. This could be the opportunity he longed for. The moon was out tonight and there are a billion of stars that lay overhead. Everything looked perfect. Nothing was coming in between.
He could take it.
He could do this.
He saw her eyes fluttered close and he willed his to do so, too. He was inching slowly that it’s only centimeters between them.
She wasn’t holding back. It can be perfection.
It can be…
You’ve got to be prepared to leave her in this fantasy
Cause when it’s over
You’ve got to make sure that it’s you who’ll be with her
THUD. He scrambled up, his bag falling down and things began tumbling out of it. He blinked his eyes for a couple of times and straightened out his jumper before letting out a sigh of relief as his eyes fell down on Lily, who looked very amused in her uniform.
“I was…dreaming?” he asked out stupidly
“Yep, you dozed off.” She said, plopping down at the couch next to him.
“So, it wasn’t real?” he stated but it came out more like a question. As soon as he said it though, he wanted to slap himself. And so he did. Mentally.
Lily looked at him. “Unless you wanted it to be real, then yes, it wasn’t. Why? Did you dream about finally shagging Black? You know, I still think you have the hots for Sirius. Or was it Remus?” she grinned.
You’re the only person I have the hots for.
James rolled his eyes, irked that he couldn’t just tell her that. “What are you doing here?” he asked.
“Well, I came to wake you up, wanker.” She grinned again and stood up. “We’ve got lots of things to plan and the prefects are waiting.”
James stayed at where he was, eyebrows knitted. He was sensing a feeling of déjà vu.
“Come on, lazy arse.” She said, grabbing her bag and walking. She stopped and turned around. “Tell you what?” she called out. “Race you to the Head’s office!” She quickly disappeared.
James laughed. But he can’t help but running a little bit faster to catch up with her.
Aaaaaanndd, it sucks. Gah. I know. I’m not really good at endings so, pardon me for that. :) But anyways, it’s mah first song fic (whoopee!) so please tell me what you think!
Now off to credits and blah: This song is called Hey Daydreamer by SomedayDream. They’re a local band in our place and they sound like Owl City. I think. Well, anyways, I omitted some of the lyrics so…sorry for that but…yeah. I ran out of words to say. Asdfghjkl. Heh. Now I’m rambling. Oh well, I suggest YOU TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK and go check out the song. Ciao for now.
