George went to back to his flat above the joke shop. George really needed to work, to invent something new, but he just couldn’t bring himself to do it, not today. How could she be that way towards him? To kiss him and then reject him completely? Didn’t she understand that he needed her more than anything else in the world, that she was the whole reason for his existence now? The last few days were an emotional roller coaster, George didn’t know how much more emotional whiplash he could take. As angry and confused George was, he would give her time, as much as she needed. He would always be there for her, even if she didn’t want him as much as he wanted her. He sat down on the edge of his bed and buried his face in his hands. He had almost lost her completely last night, and after he saved her, he wanted to keep her, and now he may not get to have her at all. George fell back onto his bed and stared at the ceiling. He let his eyes close and let sleep take him over in hopes that he might escape his thoughts for a while.
“What are you doing George?” Fred asked his brother as he walked towards him.
“What do you mean?” George asked, not understanding his brother’s question.
“What. Are. You. Doing?” Fred asked again, his tone taking a serious turn, there was no sign of happiness on his face.
“I don’t know. She doesn’t think we could be together. So I left, I gave her the space she wanted, that she needed.” George said, sinking to sit, the very thought of not being with Hermione made him unable to stand.
“And why did you do that, why did you leave?” Fred asked as he sat down by his brother.
“After all she’s been through Fred, she deserves her space, I know she needs to deal with some things and heal before she can handle any kind of relationship. She needs to fix her soul and heart, it’s been through so much. She deserves all the time in the world and I’m going to make sure she gets whatever she needs to be better. I’m so stupid for trying to rush things so fast. It’s my fault.”
“It’s not your fault. You were living in the moment like you always do, so don’t beat yourself up. But why did you leave?” Fred asked again.
“I told you, she needs space, so I gave her that.” George said.
“No, if you were really listening to what she was saying, she was saying she needs YOU.”
“But she said she didn’t think that there could be a relationship for her and I.” George was trying to latch on to what his twin was saying, but he couldn’t quite grasp it.
“She said she didn’t think you guys could be together, she never said she didn’t want you there. She needs you George, she needs you to help her. Put your feelings for her aside and focus on making her better right now. So get of your freckled arse and go help that damsel in distress!” Fred told George. And what Fred was saying, started clicking for George. He got it, he was going to go help her. Why hadn’t he thought to do that before? George and Fred stood and hugged each other.
“Thank you.” George told him.
“Anytime brother of mine.” Fred smiled.
“No, thank you for saving her the other night, you heard me and you healed her.” George said.
“Oh, that wasn’t me. That was all you George.” Fred winked at George as he disappeared.
George opened his eyes and sprung out of bed. He was going to help Hermione.
