A/N: Hello lovely readers! Well, this plot bunny had been nagging me since ages so I finally decided to type it out and get it done with.

This story has been written for two challenges:

1. The Lexicon Challenge in which I was given the word companion that needs to be used somewhere in the story.

2. The Wild Romance Challenge in which I am supposed to utilize a scene involving a "kiss in the rain."

Ending It

It was raining outside. Dominique closed her eyes momentarily. She felt a few tears escape and slide down her cheeks. She sighed and wiped them slowly with her pale hands.

“Catch me if you can!” She laughed raucously as she sprinted in the downpour like a little girl.

“Dom! You’ll catch a cold!” He shouted at her, an amusing glint in his light blue eyes, as he watched her from the doorway of his cottage. She merely giggled in response and ran further away from him, underneath the dark night sky, and then stopping and suddenly spinning on the spot, spreading her arms wide.

She loved the rain. It calmed and excited her at the same time. She felt like a thirteen year old teenager again, and not like the twenty-two year old woman she was. As the water droplets splattered on her upwards-turned face, she heard him – rather felt him – walking towards her. She lowered her face and met his gaze. He grinned.

“You are insane, you know,” he told her as he reached her and she shrugged nonchalantly.

“Of course I know. No wonder I’m your best friend.”

“Ha Ha. Very funny,” he rolled his eyes and she winked at him slyly.

It was true. Teddy and she were best friends. They had been since the past three years; since the day he’d come and confessed to her that he still liked Victoire, even after dating her back in the Hogwarts days for a brief period and then she having broken up with him, and that he needed her help to woo her sister once again. She had helped of course, and her aid had borne fruitful results. Her sister had once again started dating Teddy, and they’d now been in an on-off relationship for the past three years. It was an on-off relationship because, being the perfectionist princess her sister was, Victoire had broken up with Teddy many times over small issues – rather tantrums – only to patch up again a few days later.

“What are you thinking about?” He asked her and she smiled.

“Nothing really. I am just enjoying the rain.”

He chuckled.

“Sometimes I wonder how you and Vic are sisters. She absolutely hates the rain, and anything that ruins her perfect get-up for that matter, and you… well you don’t give a damn,” he shook his head as she laughed.

“Is that a bad thing? Do you think I should be like Vic, making sure I’m always prim and proper and perfect?” Her brown eyes bore into his and, almost mechanically, Teddy took her small hands in his.

“Of course not. You’re carefree, you’re independent, you’re lively… you’re just so you and that is what makes you so unique. I never would want you to change Dom; you’re perfect in your own way.”

Their eyes met again and she felt a sizzle of electricity shoot up her veins. She had been having these odd moments with Teddy for about a year now, and she mentally chided herself. This was her sister’s boyfriend.

He grinned at her again and she smiled back tentatively.

“Are you okay? What’s wrong?” A small crease formed between his brows as he frowned slightly, and his hair turned yellow. He was worried.

“It's nothing Teddy,” she told him, and then to steer their conversation away from dangerous waters, she added, “come on, you were supposed to catch me!” Laughing, she took off in a run abruptly and he chortled, following her.

Dom decided it was one of the best moments in her life, running madly through the rain, splashing water everywhere, with Teddy in tow. She felt like a free bird, soaring giddily in her freedom.

Then, without warning, Teddy suddenly grabbed her waist from behind, making her squeal and kick her legs in the air.

“Caught you!” He gleefully shouted, making her chuckle with him, before turning her around in his arms.

Her breath caught in her throat as she realized she was nose to nose with him. Time stood still for a moment as their eyes met.

“Teddy,” she breathed, but he silenced her by putting his finger on her lips. He stared at her for the smallest of moments and then lowered his hand slowly, only to place it on her petite waist. She opened her mouth to speak again, but the next second, his lips touched hers.

It barely took a second for her to respond, to wrap her arms around his neck and get lost in passionate bliss. She had wanted this since so long. It was as if a fire had been lit in her belly and the world vanished around her. It was only he that mattered.

In that blissful moment, Dominique Weasley understood what she’d been pushing away from her since the past year. She was in love with her best friend, and her sister’s boyfriend, Teddy Lupin, and it was too late to do anything about it.

Dom remembered that particular night so well. It was the first night she’d spent with the love of her life, and also the night she’d lost her virginity. One thing had led to another and their kiss had ultimately transpired into a night of passionate love-making. The morning after had witnessed the beginning to their sinful relationship.

Seven months had passed since that fateful day, and today Dom had decided to end it once and for all. She could not cheat her own sister any longer.

She knew Teddy loved Victoire with all his heart and could not lose her. She also knew what he felt for her was infatuation – a crush that he’d get over with time. He called her his girlfriend, when she was in fact the ‘Other Woman’, and it pained her even more so.

Teddy had always been one with a very pure heart, and he had turned into a ‘double-dater’, a cheater, all because of her. She loved him, but she loved her sister too, and she knew it was wrong to carry this thing they had any longer. She knew he’d understand, at least she hoped that he did.

A knock on her door pulled her out of her thoughts and wiping away the last of her tears, she opened it. Even though she’d known it would be him, it was always him on Friday evenings, he still managed to take her breath away. She couldn’t help but engulf him in a hug, marveling at the fact that he was hers. The minute that thought slipped into her mind, she broke apart. He was Victoire’s, not hers.

“I missed you,” Teddy whispered as he stepped inside and closed the door behind him. He then leaned forward to press his lips to hers but she moved away. It was now or never. He frowned.

“Dom, love, what’s wrong?”

“It is time we stoped,” she spoke the words mechanically, keeping any emotion out of her voice. However, instead of surprise, as she’d presumed he would be, she saw recognition register in his face.  His shoulders slumped and he sighed.

“So James told you then? He can’t keep a thing to himself,” he mumbled, before plopping down on the sofa.

She was confused. What was he talking about?

“James? He didn’t tell me anything. What are you talking about Teddy?”

“You really don’t know? Then why did you say that we need to…stop?”

She averted his eyes and took a deep breath.

“Because what we’ve been doing is wrong Teddy. I have been thinking about it every day and dying inside. Yet, I have been so weak to not be able to let you go. But enough, I need to be strong now. I need to let you go. I don’t want to ch-…cheat my sister anymore,” her eyes filled with tears and she blinked them away. “Anyways, you tell me… why did you think I decided to stop this?”
Teddy shuffled his feet before getting up. He placed his hands on her shoulders and looked at her with a pleading expression.

“I-…I am proposing to Victoire,” his words came out in a whisper but she merely stared up at him.
“When?” Dom finally managed to choke out after minutes of staring at his worried face.
“In three days. You know, on her birthday.”

All air seemed to whoosh out of her lungs at his words. Suddenly, letting go of Teddy seemed so much harder. She wanted to cling to him, to hold him, to never let him move away from her. She loved him, wasn’t her love enough to keep him with her? Why was this happening to her? Why was he being snatched away, and by no one else but her own sister? Why did Fate call upon her to give this sacrifice?

“I am sorry,” he murmured, his fingers wiping away the tears she had not realized had fallen. His touch seemed to ignite something in her and she took a step back.

“G-give me a moment,” she told him shakily and he nodded.

Dom turned away from the man she loved so much that it hurt, and focused on calming herself down. She needed to be rational, and not break into a fit of hysterics.

Taking a few deep breaths, and mulling things over logically, she mustered up all her strength and turned back to face him.

He was still rooted to the same spot, concern and desperation lining his flawless features, his hair a bright shade of yellow. However, before she could utter even a single syllable, he gestured for her to not speak.

"Dom, I am sorry. I really am. I know how much you must be hurting right now but will you forgive me for what I'm doing? I love you Dom, you know I do, it's just that I love her too, and unfortunately I think I love her more than I love you."

Her heart constricted painfully at his words but she knew he wasn't finished yet. She knew he needed to let it all out.

"I feel terrible for doing this. I need you Dom – you have been my companion, my support, my comfort, for so long that I need you in my life. But I want her, and I can’t live without her. I don't know how things got so messed up, but you keep me sane Dom - you fill up this empty space in my heart." Tears gleamed in his eyes too and he took a shuddering breath before going on.

“But you know that without Vic I go insane, without her I feel empty. It’s very difficult to understand, and I don’t even know if I’m making sense to you anymore but please try to understand. Without you I'm nothing Dom, but with her I'm everything. I want to spend a happy married long life with her, but that life won’t be happy if you’re not in it."

Her eyes widened and she gasped at his words, shaking her head. He couldn't expect her to continue with their affair even after he was her brother-in-law, he had no right to ask her of that. Teddy seemed to be read the alarm in her expression, and continued hastily.

"Dom, I am not asking you to continue are... relationship forever. I know I can't have both of you, I know I've to choose but I can't Dom. It will kill me to. I know you, and I know you must be thinking that this is our Goodbye and that you’re planning to vanish from my life, but I can’t survive without you. You can’t leave me. Please promise me you won't abandon me. Please Dom. Please.”

The look on his face broke her heart and her own face twisted into a pained expression. She loved him too much to hurt him, and she knew, like he’d said she had always been his companion and how much ever she tried, she’d never be able to erase herself from his life.
Coming to a decision, she bit her lip and then nodded.
“I promise Teddy. I promise I'll be here for you as long as you need me, but only as your best friend Teddy. We need to bring a stop to our relationship, and that is inevitable. I don't want to hurt my sister, and I don't want to hurt you. I know you need me Ted, and believe me; I need you more than you need me. And that’s why I won’t try to run away from your life. I promise I'm here for you - forever and always,” her voice broke on the last word and a single tear rolled down her cheek. Teddy looked away from her.
“You're too good Dom. I don't deserve you,” he mumbled.

“You surely don’t,” she tried to joke, to smile, but failed miserably.

He seemed to understand as he sighed.

“I love you.”

“Me too,” she whispered as he grasped her hand in his once more before walking out of her house and disapparating away from her doorstep. She allowed herself to break down then, her heart shattered in a million pieces.

She cried until no tears were left in her anymore, as she knew after three days, he would be her sister’s, and then she’d have to wear a smile on her face and welcome him to the family.

A/N: Please don't forget to leave your thoughts in the little review box below. If there are any errors, please do let me know. This is my first time attempting Teddy and Dominique, and I'm not sure how well I've crafted them, especially owing to the fact that I am writing this at 2 AM. Thank you so much for reading and reviewing!

Edit: The sequel to this story is now posted. It's called "Betrayal". Feel free to check it out! {Edited - 13 Feb 2013}
