Nik looked at me at me confused. "I-um said will you marry me?"
Will you marry me?
The four word question every girl dreams of hearing. After the three small words of I love you of course. But I didn't do so well with the three small words, so these four words scared the shit out of me.
Will I marry Nik? I thought back to the promise I made to Nik four and a half years ago when we got back together.
"I promise whenever you're ready to take the next step, I will be too. No matter what it is."
Here it was, the next step. We had moved in together, got matching tattoos. I knew what I had to do. What I wanted to do.
"No-I mean yes. Yes, I will marry you!" I exclaimed as tears filled my eyes.
"Really?" He asked in relief.
Nik put the ring on my finger, and stood up to kiss me. I couldn't believe it, we were engaged, we're getting married!
"For a second there, I thought you would say no." Nik said.
"I was just so shocked for a moment." I admitted.
"I can't believe we're getting married!" He exclaimed.
"This is gonna be great!"
"Something smells amazing." Nik said walking into the kitchen. He came behind me and kissed me. "Wait a minute, are you cooking?!" He asked in shock.
"Yeah." I said turning to face him.
"Spencer, baby, are you sick or something?" He asked feeling my forehead, checking if I had a fever.
"No, I just wanted to make you breakfast. I mean,we're going to be married soon, so I thought I should start cooking.
"Seriously?" He asked, still looking concerned.
"Yes." I said turning my attention back to the stove where I was cooking an omlet. "But don't expect dinner to be cooked, because that is just not happening. Your arms aren't broken, you can make it yourself."
"Now that sounds like my finacèe." Nik said sitting down at the table.
I smiled, still not believing I was getting married. I looked down at the stunning diamond ring on my left ring finger. I was really engaged! I placed the omlet in front of Nik as he opened the Daily Prophet.
"Hey, honey?" I asked slowly.
"Yeah, baby?" He asked putting the newspaper down and looking at me curiously.
"Have you, um, thought about when we're going to tell everybody about us being engaged?"
"No, why?" He asked.
I sat down on his lap, and wrapped my arms around his neck. "Because I have, and I was thinking that maybe we should keep it quiet for a few days." I said sweetly, hoping to convince him.
Nik looked at me confused. "Why?" He asked.
"So we can get used to it ourselves. It's just for a few days, okay?" I said.
He thought about it for a moment. "I guess that's not a bad idea." He said finally. "But, when do you want to tell everyone?"
"You can decide that." I said.
"Um...oh! The wedding! We'll tell everyone at Ron and Hermione's wedding. All our friends and aquaintances will be there. What do you think?"
I shrugged, "Sounds fine to me." I said. "But what about out teams?"
"What about them?" Nik asked.
"Shouldn't we tell them, considering planning the wedding might take time, and we need to give them a heads up?" I explained.
"Yeah, we should."
"All right, we tell our teams, and make sure they keep it quiet until Saturday." I said.
"You are so smart." Nik said kissing me. He took a bite of his omlet. "And a great cook."
"Well, I actually kiss better than I cook." I said smiling.
"Hmm, really? I'll be the judge of that." He said. He kissed me again. He tasted like the omlet, it actually was pretty good. I am a good cook.
"So, how about we both stay home from work today?" Nik asked kissing my neck. "Just have the day to ourselves, maybe talk about the wedding, if we're not too busy."
He was very persuasive. "Umm..." was all I could respond with. I wasn't sure if the guys could handle things without me, but I wanted to spend the day with Nik. "You know, that is a gre-" I stopped.
Something in the Daily Prophet caught my eye. I grabbed it and read the title.
Falmouth Falcons Out for a Wild Night.
Damn it! The pictures showed them drinking and partying. "Oh, shit, I have to get to work!" I said getting off of Nik's lap.
"What's wrong?!" Nik asked bewildered.
"Look at the newspaper." I said looking for my purse.
"Oh." He said.
"Yeah, oh. The press is going to have a fucking field day! I told them not to do this! I'm going to kill them!" I exclaimed.
"So, no day together?" Nik asked.
"I'm so sorry, babe." I said. "But I have to deal with this. How about tomorrow instead?" I asked putting on my shoes.
"Sure." He said. I could tell he was disappointed.
"I'm really sorry. But at least now you can tell your team sooner. And, hey, how about we have lunch today?" I suggested.
"All right." Nik answered, mustering a smile.
"That's my fiancè." I said giving him a quick kiss. "I love you."
"I love you too." He said, and then I flew out of the door.
I entered the locker room, the boys were talking loudly, they didn't even notice me enter. "Hey!" I yelled.
They all quieted down and sat around me. "Hey, Spencer, what's up?" Scott Wallace, the Keeper asked, a goofy smile on his face.
"What's up? I'll tell you what's up, this is what's up!" I said showing them the newspaper.
"Hey,guys, we made the Daily Prophet again!" Tucker Hilton, one of the Beaters exclaimed happily.
"Hey, that's not a good picture of me." Tyson Lance, one of the Chasers complained.
"Hello!" I exclaimed. "This is not okay! I specifically told you not to go out partying and drinking, and you still did it. And you're in the fucking newspaper!"
"Whoa, there, Spencer. Let's calm down, okay?" The Captain and Seeker, Donovan Holder said. "How about tonight we go out for drinks?" He suggested.
"No." I said. "Going out for drinks is what got us here. The press is gonna be all over my arse for this!"
"Lucky press." Vincent Marron, the other Beater muttered.
"Shut it, Vince!" I snapped.
Tom Penn, one of the other Chaser high fived Vince, and I glared at him. He looked away from my glare.
"You guys are killing me." I said. "I tell you to do one thing, and you do the complete opposite."
"We just wanted to have some fun." Greg Byron, the last Chaser shrugged.
I sighed. Somtimes it was so hard to stay mad at them. "I know, but everything you guys do affects me. I'm the one who has to deal with press. You all know that Rita Skeeter is a bitch, and she'll cause trouble. And I won't always be around to stop the trouble."
"Are you quitting?!" Tom asked bewildered.
"No." I said.
"Are you resigning?" Vince asked.
"That's the same thing as quitting, you moron." Tucker said before I could respond.
"No, I'm not resigning either." I said before Vince could retort.
"Well, what's going on?" Donovan asked.
"Well, as you know, yesterday was mine and Nik's anniversary. And well, he asked me to marry him, and I said yes." I showed them the ring on my finger. Everyone started talking.
"Look at the size of that thing!" Tyson exclaimed.
"Congrats, Spencer!" Scott said.
"It's about time!" Tom said.
"We get to come to the wedding, right?!" Greg asked.
I just laughed and signalled for them to be quiet. "Thanks guys. And of course you can come to the wedding. I just need to ask you guys to do something. Keep this quiet until Saturday."
"We can do that." Vince said like it was nothing.
I looked around the others. They mumbled "okay."
"Okay, good, we have no idea when the wedding will be, but I'll let you guys know." I said.
"Aww, guys, our little Spencer is growing up and getting married." Donovan said smiling.
"Oh, shut up." I replied. "This doesn't mean I'm becoming soft, I will still kick all of you arses."
"Oh, but of course." Tyson joked.
"All right, now get out there and remind me why I waste my time on you idiots!"
"All right, run that play again!" I shouted.
"Hey, Spencer, someone is here to see you!" Donovan called from his broom.
I turned around to see Nik walking towards me. "Hey." I said as he approached.
"They're not looking too bad." Nik said. "We'll need to practice harder."
"Hey, no spying." I said pulling him into a kiss.
"Aww, how cute!"
"Did you save some of that for us?!"
"Hey, did I tell you guys to stop?!" I yelled at them. They laughed and continued.
"So, we still on for lunch?" Nik asked.
"Of course." I answered. "Hey, morons! Hour and a half lunch, then back here to discuss strategies of how to stay out of the newspaper!" I shouted before taking Nik's hand.
"How did those strategies go?" Nik asked as I walked into the flat.
"I'm not entirely sure I got through to them, but I guess we'll find out." I shrugged.
"Come here." Nik said.
I walked over to couch and sat down on his lap. "Do you want to marry me?" He asked.
"Of course I do." I answered.
He studied me for a moment. "Okay. I just wanted to make sure we're not rushing anything."
"We're not." I assured him. "This is the perfect pace."
He laid back, bringing me with him. "All right, good." He smiled. "Damn, I love you."
I smiled back. "Well, you're in luck, because I love you too." I said before kissing my fiancè.
