"Right here." I answered.
"Don't lie to me." He said gripping my arm.
I winced in pain. "I'm not, I've been here the whole time I swear."
Suddenly, he smiled. It was strange how easily his mood changed when he was drunk. Not to mention scary.
He stroked my cheek affectionately. "You're so pretty." He whispered, leaning closer to me.
"Thanks." I said blankly.
"How about a kiss?" He asked. I sighed. I was in no mood to taste alcohol, but I didn't want to upset him. I had learned things are so much easier for me when he gets what he wants.
I turned my face towards his. He pressed his lips against mine, gently at first, but then pressed harder. I pulled away.
"Aww, aren't you two so cute." A girl passing by said smiling.
He smiled too. And for a moment, he was his real, sober self, but he quickly went back to his drunk self. If only that girl knew the truth, then I'm sure we wouldn't be so cute to her.
"What's the matter with you?!" He slurred.
"Nothing." I lied.
"You don't look like you're having fun at all." He complained.
"That's because I'm not." I replied, keeping my eyes straight forward.
"Well, why not?!"
"Because you said we would take a break from all this drinking and partying. And we haven't…well, you haven't." I added quietly.
"I-I didn't say that." He stumbled on his words. "When did I say that?"
"I don't remember that." He said scratching his head. I almost made a smart ass remark, but I knew better. When he was drunk, he never remembered what he said when he was sober, and when he was sober, he never remembered what he said when he was drunk. But I remember everything. Funny how that works out.
"Well, you did say that." I said.
"Is that why you're so upset?" He asked stroking my arm.
"Yes." I answered honestly.
"Okay, I won't drink for the rest of the night." He said, putting down his cup.
"Really?" I asked in disbelief.
"Yes." He answered in determination. Maybe there was still his real self somewhere in there.
Although it didn't matter much whether he continued drinking or not, because he was already drunk, it was the thought that counted. He was actually trying to make things better.
Too bad he lied…
"Sloane, Sloane, get up." A voice said.
"Liar." I mumbled, waking up.
"What did I lie about?" Hermione's voice asked in surprise.
"Huh? Oh, nothing, I wasn't talking to you." I said sitting up and stretching.
"Who were you talking to then?" She asked.
"No idea." I lied.
We got dressed and ready for the day. "So, how was last night?" Hermione asked as we put on our shoes.
"Fine." I shrugged.
"Anything interesting happen?" She asked.
I shook my head. "Nope."
"Really? Didn't snog Harry or anything?"
I gaped at her. "I-I don't know what you're talking about." I stuttered, as we walked down the stairs.
Hermione laughed. "Oh, please, it's all anyone can talk about."
"Well, I don't know what they're talking about either." I lied.
We had reached the bottom of the stairs, where Harry and Ron waited for us. I smiled as Harry took my hand and pulled me towards him, and kissed me.
"Oh, you don't know what I'm talking about, huh?" Hermione asked, raising her eyebrows.
I shrugged. "Finally decided to ask her out, huh Harry?" Ron said as we started walking.
"Yeah." Harry said, smiling as he held my hand. The looks we got on the way to the Great Hall were absolutely hilarious. Tons of girls glaring, guys giving Harry an approving look, I really liked all the attention.
"Wow, having a famous boyfriend sure comes with alot of staring." I commented as we entered the Great Hall.
"It doesn't bother you, does it?" Harry asked in a worried voice.
"Oh no, I love it." I said smiling.
"Of course you do." Hermione said.
During breakfast, while Harry and Ron were having some deep conversation about Quidditch or something, Hermione turned to me.
"Are you still talking to Kale?" She asked.
"Yeah, I write him like every week." I said.
"Are you going to tell him about you and Harry before he finds out through the Daily Prophet or something?"
I sighed. I had completely forgotten about Kale in all this excitement of Harry asking me out. "Yeah, I guess. I'll write him today."
I just hoped he wouldn't be too upset. I mean it's not like we're back together, but we have talked about it. I was sure Kale would understand. Someone who didn't understand at all and was very upset…Malfoy.
When Harry and I entered Potions holding hands, Malfoy's mouth dropped open, and he glared at us. I was in no way looking foward to Charms, where I was sure not to hear the end of his whining about why I was dating Harry.
"Malfoy doesn't look too happy about you and Harry." Hermione whispered in the middle of class.
I groaned. "I know. Just wait until Charms, I'm sure he'll have a lot to say."
"Well, I'm sure Zabini and I will have a lot of fun listening to it." She said smirking.
"Ha ha." I said sarcastically. "Well at least one of us will be enjoying ourselves."
Harry came over to us. "Hey, babe." He said. I giggled. Harry Potter just called me 'babe'. How lucky was I?
"Hi sweetie." I said sweetly.
"Ugh, already with the annoyingly cute petnames?" Hermione asked.
"Oh, don't even get me started on you and Ron with your 'honey' and 'baby' and 'sweetheart' and 'sugar lips'." I said.
Hermione blushed slightly. "Oh, whatever." She muttered.
Harry laughed. "Well, I should get back to my table before Snape decides to take fifty points from me." He said.
"All right." I said before we kissed, and he walked off.
I looked after him, smiling. As I turned back to my potion, I couldn't help but notice Malfoy's angry glare at Harry. Charms should be fun.
Harry and I quickly rushed into Charms, barely sitting down before the bell rang. We got a little caught up in kissing, which resulted in us almost being late. We smiled at eachother as Professor Flitwick began talking.
I glanced at Malfoy. His expression was cold, and he looked straight foward. Maybe I would get lucky, and Malfoy would be too pissed to talk to me. Apparently, my luck wasn't that good.
"So, you and Potter, huh?" Malfoy asked quietly as we began to work.
"Um, yeah." I answered.
"That's nice." He said.
"You think so?" I asked.
"Honestly, no I don't think so." Malfoy replied bitterly.
"Then why did you say that?" I asked rolling my eyes.
He didn't answer me, and I was fine with that. We didn't speak at all as we worked.
"Why Potter?!" Malfoy asked out of nowhere.
"Because I like him." I said simply.
"But why?" He pressed.
"Why does it matter to you, Malfoy?" I asked, slightly irritated.
"Because, I don't understand why someone like you would want to be with someone like him."
"What exactly do you mean by 'someone like me' and 'someone like him'?" I asked.
Out of the corner of my eye, I could see Hermione and Zabini listening intently to our conversation. Nosy much?
"I mean, that you're this beautiful, smart, amazing person, and he's just an attention seeking git." Malfoy responded.
"Don't talk about my boyfriend like that." I said glaring at him.
When I said boyfriend, I saw Malfoy twitch a little.
"Did someone say boyfriend?" A voice asked behind me. I turned around and saw Harry. I smiled instantly.
"Hey." I said, too aware that Malfoy was watching us very closely.
"Hey, yourself." Harry said leaning down to kiss me. I knew he was trying to make Malfoy mad, and it worked very well. After the kiss, I saw his eyes flash angrily.
"You miss me?" Harry asked.
"Of course." I said smiling up at him from my chair.
"I was thinking after lessons, you could help me study for Divination, since I'm awful at it, and you're so amazing." He said smiling.
"Sure." I said, knowing not too much studying would occur.
"Great." Harry responded. "I'm going to get back to Bulstrode before she kicks my arse for making her do all the work." He kissed me again, giving Malfoy a gloating look, and then left.
"That had to hurt." I heard Zabini mutter to Hermione. I saw her nod.
"What does he have that I don't have?" Malfoy asked me.
"You mean besides fame and Jules as girlfriend?" Zabini asked.
"Shut up, Blaise." Malfoy said. He turned back to me, waiting for my answer.
"Harry is a nice, caring person." I started. "I can relate to him. He listens to me, he cares about me. He befriended me when I didn't know anyone. He's just wonderful."
"That doesn't really answer my question. Why is he better than me in your eyes?" Malfoy asked, his eyes burning into mine.
"Why do you care?" I asked.
"Don't act like you don't know." He whispered. "I've made my feelings about you very clear right from the start, Sloane. You know that I like you."
Actually hearing him say those words affected me quite differently than I thought they would. I couldn't exactly explain it though.
"And I've made my reasons for not liking you very clear." I said looking away from his intense stare.
"Is this really all because I tripped you and didn't apologize? Because if it is I'm sorry, okay? I'm truly sorry, I know I was being a jerk and rude, and that it was all my fault."
"That's not it." I said. "I see the way you treat other people. I see the way you walk around acting like you're better than everyone else because you're rich and your Dad has all these connections and you're a pureblood. You are a self centered jerk. Does that explain my reasoning?" I asked.
"Yes." Malfoy answered quietly. "But that's not all there is to me, and I'm going to show you that I'm not a self centered jerk."
"Whatever." I said, shaking my head.
"Malfoy hasn't been bothering you has he?" Harry asked a few days later.
"Of course he has, but it's nothing I can't handle." I responded. Malfoy was still very keen on getting me to like him, even though I was with Harry. If anything, he was working harder.
"Okay." Harry said sounding very unconvinced. "Where are we going?" He asked.
"To meet Luna." I said.
"Isn't she crazy?" He asked.
I hit his arm lightly. "No, she's very nice. She does believe in some interesting things, but don't laugh at her, okay?"
"Fine, but only because you asked."
"Hi, Luna." I said as we approached her.
"Hello, Sloane." She said in her usual dreamy voice. "I see you've brought Harry Potter with you."
"Yeah, we're dating now." I said, smiling.
"Um, it's very nice to meet you, Luna." Harry said, smiling akwardly.
"You as well. Anyone who's a friend of Sloane must be very nice."
"Er, yeah, okay."
Harry and I hung out with Luna for a while, and the akwardness faded, and we had a lot of fun talking about Nargles and Wrakspurts and conspiracy theories.
Later that night, after I said goodnight to Harry, I went up to my room to see my owl, Ren waiting for me, with a letter attatched to her leg. I immediately recognize Kale's handwriting.
It's okay that you're dating Harry Potter. I mean we aren't back together, so I guess I have no room to be mad. I suppose we can figure out our relationship during winter holidays, how does that sound? I miss you and I love you.
I put the letter down on my bed side table and laid down, falling in to what I hoped would be a dreamless sleep.
