A door slammed and footsteps echoed through the entrance hall to the Manor as Scorpius Malfoy stamped down the staircase and through to the lounge. He marched across to the coffee table and collected his wand, as well as a handful of gold Galleons. He stuffed them into his pocket as he stormed back to the entrance hall. He walked toward an alcove and collected his old Hogwarts trunk, which he had already packed with clothes and other necessary items, and headed for the door. A house elf cowered as he past, and as his hand connected with the handle of the door, a voice spoke out from behind him.
“STOP!” Scorpius looked over his shoulder to see his father, Draco Malfoy, stood at the top of the stairs, holding onto the handrail with his right hand. Draco began to walk slowly down the stairs, and Scorpius sighed, before turning his body around to face him.
“Dad, I’m not interested in what you have to say, because it’s wrong. You’re wasting your breath.”
His father looked angry, but after pausing for a moment, he spoke with a remarkable amount of control over his temper. “If you leave, and if you continue to betray your loyalty to this family, you will no longer be welcome under this roof.”
Scorpius looked at his father, hardly believing the ultimatum that he had just been presented with. He examined his father’s expression, and was mildly horrified when he realised that he was being serious. “So you’re asking me to lie, so that I can stay here and be your son?” Draco opened his mouth to speak, but Scorpius cut him off. “You know what? That has to be one of the easiest decisions I’ve ever had to make.”
He turned away from his father and opened the door. He could hear his father speaking behind him, but chose not to pay attention to what he was saying. He began to walk down the gravel pathway with his trunk behind him, not even looking back as the historic Manor grew further and further away.
Eventually he finally made it to the end of the gravel pathway, to where the entrance gate to the manor stood. He flicked his wand at the tall iron gates, and they opened slightly, allowing him to exit the grounds. As the gates began to close behind him, Scorpius turned on the spot, and instantly, he was gone.
A fraction of a second later, Scorpius opened his eyes and saw the instantly familiar view of the Potter’s house. He’d often been here, and it had felt like a second home to him during his childhood, second only to Hogwarts. He walked down the driveway, which was significantly shorter than the one at Malfoy Manor.
As he was about to ring the doorbell, the door was flung open and Lily stood in the doorway. She flung her arms around his neck, before moving aside to allow him inside.
“ALBUS!” Scorpius instinctively covered his ears as an ear-splitting squeal cut through the air.
It took Al Potter almost a minute to reach the door, but as soon as he did, he threw his arms around his best friend. “Scorpius, what the hell are you doing here?”
