Chapter 24 : The Encore
| ||Rating: Mature||Chapter Reviews: 3|
Background: Font color:
Since I am now a legal adult, as far as the wizarding world is concerned, I was free to move out of my parent’s house. My dad was upset about it, of course, but I couldn’t take it any longer. Mum and Charles were just ruining my perfect mood. I found myself a small flat in Diagon Alley by Flourish and Botts. It’s slightly noisy, but I love it. It’s my place.
Why am I so happy? It might just have to do something with the fact that Anders and I are still together. Today is a particularly good day because it’s the first time I’ve seen him in weeks. As usual, the twins spent the summer traveling around the world with their parents. The Scamanders are always hunting for imaginary creatures, and a few real ones. Anders sent me more than a few letters documenting the whole insane trip. You might even consider them to be love letters.
I turned at the sound of the oh-so-melodic voice of Lily Potter. “You know, it wouldn’t kill you to say a slightly nicer greeting. Maybe even a more appropriate one.” I glanced around King’s Cross Station. “There are old people staring!”
She laughed. “Let them stare. They already think our generation is a bunch of nutty sluts.” She ran a hand through her hair. “I bet you’re going to miss having your own place.”
I shrugged. “It was nice but…”
“You couldn’t have your boyfriend over.” She said quickly. “Although, I would think it would be more fun for you two at school. Sneaking around at midnight is so much fun. There’s no one to yell at you for… scandalous acts in your own flat.”
“Did you really just say that? Scandalous acts?” Lily truly speaks her own language.
“I thought you wanted me to tone it down for the elderly.” She retorted, swinging her arms as we walked together to Platform 9 ¾.
I raised an eyebrow, and gave Lily a quick glance over. What was going on with her today? “You’re awfully chipper.”
“Of course I am. My summer was awful.”
“Lily! Eva!” Dominique called from behind us. We stopped to wait for her as she came scurrying over. “It’s our seventh year!” She gave us both a quick hug.
I smirked. “See, Lily, Dominique knows how to greet people.”
She gave me a death glare. “It’s love bird number two.”
Dominique stuck her tongue out. She was still with Tobias, although they would be a long-distance couple this year, as he was a year older than us. “Just tell us how your summer was, Lily. You’ve been awful secretive about it.”
She scowled. “That’s because it was awful. I just started to tell Eva about how awful it was.”
We both shot her a look of disbelief. “Lily… You worked at your uncle’s shop. How could that possibly be awful?” She had come over for lunch occasionally since we had been in the same neighborhood. Lily had refused to talk about her job every time, although she had always been irritated.
“There was a boy.”
“We don’t want to know what you did with some mystery boy over the summer.”
Lily hit her cousin lightly on the arm. “Don’t say that! I didn’t do anything with him! He was awful! The biggest pain in the ass ever.”
“I thought that was you.”
She wrinkled her nose at me. “Oh, aren’t you two just hilarious today. Thanks for being so sympathetic.”
“Lily… You love boys. It’s just a bit hard for us to take you complaining about one seriously. You did start snogging, didn’t you?” I asked before dashing through the barrier.
Lily had a look of pure disgust on her face as she reappeared. “Start snogging? Start snogging Mason King? I don’t think so. You haven’t met the boy. He is the most-”
“Are you talking about me, Flower?”
A boy strolled up behind us with a crooked grin. He was between our height and that of the gigantic Scamander twins. It was nice to know that not all boys were freaks of nature in the height department. His dark brown hair was nearly shoulder length. Mason sort of reminded me of Lorcan already, just from the way he talked to Lily.
“Don’t call me that!” She hissed, jabbing him violently in the chest with a finger. “Do I look like a flower to you? Do I seem at all delicate?”
He just grinned at her. “Would you prefer if I called you Venus Fly Trap? Devil’s Snare?” Mason’s eyes drifted over to Dom and I. “You must be Lily’s posse. I’m Mason. I see my flower has been talking about me.”
“I would rather eat my own leg before I was yours.” She held her chin up a little higher.
Really, I was trying my hardest to resist bursting out laughing. How long would it be before Mason and Lily started eating each other’s faces? It was refreshing to see her not want a boy who was perfectly eligible. She had never been interested in the twins, but they were different. They were off-limits.
“Go ahead then. I’d like to see this.” Mason wrapped an arm around Lily’s waist.
“If I wasn’t a prefect… If I wasn’t a prefect…” She muttered to herself, grimacing at his touch. “You’re not a King. You’re the king’s fool.”
“The queen. Queen Lily Potter.” He gave her a quick kiss on the nose.
Mason’s face made a rather loud noise as Lily slapped him clear across the cheek. “Dom, Eva, let’s get out of here. Arse.” She stormed off.
“It was nice meeting you!” I called over my shoulder to Mason before chasing after Lily.
He had a hand to his cheek, and was watching Lily go with a look of amazement in his eyes.
“Who does he think he is? You can’t just… walk up and touch someone like that.” She grumbled. “Doesn’t he know who I am?”
“Maybe that’s why he did it. You’ve got a bit of a reputation for being easy.” Dominique pointed out.
“That’s not what I meant! I’m Lily Potter! You can’t just kiss Harry Potter’s daughter without her permission. You can’t harass her at her own uncle’s shop!” She shook her head.
I raised an eyebrow. “I’ve never known you to play the Potter card before, Lily, so I don’t think that’s a good enough excuse. You like him.”
“I do not.”
“Excuse me?” A male voice demanded.
I quickly threw myself at Anders. He pulled me tightly into his arms before snogging me. Merlin, had I missed this boy’s kisses. Not just his kisses. I had missed everything about him. Oh yes, I was glad for summer to be over. I was more than ready to see my boyfriend every day.
Someone cleared their throat, causing us to break apart. Lorcan was leaning against the corridor wall, his arms crossed in front of his chest. It was good to see him too. I had written to him over the summer, but I had never gotten a response. Lorcan has never been much of a letter writer though, so I didn’t take it too seriously.
“Who do you think is cute?” Anders asked, his hands still pressed firmly against the small of my back.
“He is not my boyfriend!” Lily screeched.
“Lily!” Lorcan grinned widely as he gave Lily a hard pat on the back. “Congratulations! When do we get to meet the unlucky bloke?”
She gave him a sharp glare. “Do you want to continue living, Scamander?”
He shrugged. “I’d prefer it, really, but you threaten my life so often that I’ve really stopped taking you seriously. You’re sort of like that boy who called hippogriff.”
“Just you wait… I’ll take you by surprise… I’ll actually…”
“And the happy family is reunited!” I exclaimed loudly, causing them to stop threatening each other and turn to look at me. It was nice to know that some things would never change.
