Harry left the Headmaster’s office and began to walk to the Gryffindor common room with Ron and Hermione. As he walked past the entrance to the Great Hall, he stopped saw many people standing, celebrating the end of the War, but his eyes were drawn to the red-headed Weasley clan, siting together half-way down the Gryffindor table, mourning the loss of one of their own, Fred. In particular, he saw the red-headed girl, or rather woman, who had been his last thought as he sacrificed himself to Voldemort in the forest. The woman who he had broken up with the year before to keep her safe while he, Ron and Hermione went on their search for Horcruxes. The woman he loved.
Ginerva Weasley sat next to her mother, comforting Molly as she wept for the son she had lost. Hermione, who was standing behind Harry, noticed where he was looking and whispered in his ear, “There will be time later. You’re not ready for this now. Get some sleep.” So Harry continued on his way to his bed in the Gryffindor Tower, too tired to notice that Ron and Hermione did not follow him, but instead entered the Great Hall to mourn with the Weasley’s. Harry collapsed onto his bed in the dorm room, fully clothed, and fell fast asleep, with the morning rays streaming in through the windows. Harry did not dream that day. The exhaustion kept the nightmares away, and he slept until the next morning.
When he woke, he called Kreacher.
“Kreacher!” The elf apparated in front of him.
“Can you please bring breakfast to the common room for me?” Better to eat up here than down with everyone else in the Great Hall, he thought.
“The Weasley’s are having breakfast there right now. Would Master like to join them?”
“Is anyone else with them?” Harry asked. He wasn’t sure if he was ready to face them, let alone anyone else. He wasn’t sure if he was ready to face Ginny, yet. He wasn’t sure if she was ready to face him, either.
“Yes Master. Miss Granger is with them.”
“Is anyone else with them?” Harry asked, curious as to why Kreacher voiced the response like that.
“No Master. No one is in the common room except for the Weasley’s and Miss Granger.”
“What aren’t you telling me, Kreacher? Is everyone OK?” Harry asked impatiently.
The elf was forced to talk. “Miss Weasley is refusing to eat and will not talk to anyone.”
Harry sighed and ran his hand through his hair. She probably hates me and blames me for Fred’s death, as she should, he thought. “Give me ten minutes and I’ll be down.” I’ll probably get hexed, he mentally added.
“Of course Master. I shall announce your approaching arrival to them.” And the elf disapparated.
Harry grabbed clothes out of his rugsack that Kreacher had placed at the end of his bed and got changed. This was going to be a long day.
