“Stella, we need to talk,” Scorpius said to me. “Now.”
I followed asside from the rest of the party and into a empty classroom. “What about?” I asked. But somehow I knew by the look in his eyes it wasn’t going to be good. I don’t know why, maybe it was because I loved him.
“About us, about you. Take your pick which. Stella, look. I know.”
“Know what?” I asked; bewildered about what he was saying. I sat down, though he stood ridged and just looked down at me in a domineering manner.
“You cheated on me.”
It was a single statement. A statement that broke my heart. How could he accuse me? Why would I lie to him? Why would I deny the truth to the boy I love? I wasn’t cheating on him. I never even looked at another guy when I could be with Scorpius. Though I didn’t see any pain in his eyes. Any reason for him to hate me.
“W…what? How could you say such a thing?” He still looked down on me. My heart felt like it had been shattered into thousands of tiny pieces. It felt like it couldn’t be repaired; that there was a gaping hole in my chest where it had been. My face had gone white but he just stared back at me with cold eyes and a single expression that was so hard to identify plastered across his face. Though he looked sorry, but he looked cruel and evil. But I loved him.
“Don’t deny it. I know you cheated on me Stella.”
“Why would I lie to you? Why would I deny it?” I cried, pearly tears started to roll down my cheeks, smudging the pink makeup I had under my eyes and just looked up to him. Though it was like he refused to meet my eyes. “Look me in the eyes and tell me you believe that I am lying.”
He looked towards my face, and in the direction of my pale brown eyes. But somehow I knew he wasn’t actually looking into them. If my eyes were a gateway to my soul, to my mind, he was only looking at the surface, not wanting to see the pure emotion and truth.
“You cheated on me.”
“Please! Please believe me! I love you!” I was pleading with him now, my eyes sparkling with tears. He looked slightly sad. But I was devastated. Not only because he accused me, but because he refused to take me seriously; look into my eyes.
“You love my enough to cheat, yeah, its love. Stella stop making excuses, there is no us anymore!” He coldly said. But why would he say that? He said before it didn’t matter that I was a Ravenclaw and he was a Slytherin. He said it didn’t matter what his ex-girlfriend would say. But most importantly he said he had loved me. And that was what made each individual tear that rolled down my cheek full of more devastation than the last.
But then he did look into my eyes. And I got it. I understood everything. You were the one in the wrong. But you thought what you were doing was right.
“I understand. You don’t need to lie to me Scorpius. I’m not stupid.”
He looked shocked, but sighed. “I don’t know what you're talking about.”
“I said I wasn’t stupid. I can see why you're doing this. I can see why you're lying. You love her, don’t you? You love Rose Weasley enough to cheat on me. You want to be with her so bad. You want her to be the one who is by your side every day. And now she wants you too.”
He didn’t speak.
“Please, be happy.”
It broke my heart saying that. It made more tears fall from my eyes. But I had to stay strong, to make him realise it was okay even though it wasn’t. I wanted to hate him. But he had to be happy. And it killed me.
Scorpius looked defeated. “I’m sorry,” He whispered into my ear and left.
