Remus had charmed the room so that music pumped from invisible speakers all around the room.
James and I had sneaked butterbeer and firewhisky from Hogsmeade and had gone to the kitchens to get food from the house elves.
And Peter...well...Peter was...actually, I don't know.
Some Ravenclaws and Hufflepuffs were here, obviously no Slytherins. And no Smith,
as per request from Prongsie.
People were dancing and drinking and eating and there were some couples in their own private little corners. A bit early in the night for that kind of stuff, I think.
The party was just getting started.
"Mate!" James said as he came up to me, "Where're the girls?"
"Right there," I pointed with my chin over to the stair case. All five of the fourth year girls were coming down together. James went over to them.
"Frank, dude, how's it going?" I said to the sixth year.
"Great," he grinned at me, "Epic party!"
"Hey," Alice said, more to Frank than me, as she walked up to us. She kissed Frank. I looked away to give them a bit of privacy. Awkward.
"I'm..uh...just going to go," I said and walked away. Not that either of them noticed.
"Moony!" I found him at the drinks table pouring himself a butterbeer, "Not man enough for firewhisky?"
"Nah mate. I'm just so girly. I thought you were the gay one with Prongs?" he said laughingly, "You want some?"
"I'll take some firewhisky." I leant over and took some.
"So," he said, "Why is Prongs dancing with Butt-chin?"
"Butt-chin? Oh, her name's Mary. And he can dance with who ever he wants," I said.
"Yeah, but do you really think he's over Lily?"
"Al?" Lily said.
"Why is James dancing with Mary?" I followed her gaze over to where Mary had dragged James- but it wasn't exactly like James resisted- to dance.
"I don't know, Lils."
"Why is he not over here pestering me to dance with him?" she asked, puzzled.
"Ummm..." crap crap crappety crap. What do I say? Think! Quickly, oh Merlin, know she's looking at you like your retarded. Say something, anything!
"Uhhhhh...." oh, you go, brain, "I don't know. Maybe he's trying to make you jealous?"
"You know what?"
"I think its working." Oh for the love of Merlin, why did she have to start liking him just as he got over her?
"Hey Alexis! Hi Lily!" Remus saved me as he came over with three butterbeers, "Want one?"
"Sure," I nodded and he passed me one. Lily took one to.
"So you girls enjoying the party?"
"Not enough dancing," Lily pulled a face.
"Well, let's dance then!" we followed Remus to the space that had been cleared of couches for dancing.
We danced to heap of songs that I didn't recognise. Eventually we had to take a break.
"Phew. Who knew dancing could be tiring?" Lily said as the three of collapsed onto a couch.
"Well, I'm going to get another butterbeer. You guys want anything?" Remus said as he got up.
"Another butterbeer would be amazing, Remus," I said as I looked up at him.
"Butterbeer here as well," Lily said as she rested her head against the back of the couch.
As Remus left, Lily turned to me and said,
"You know, I think Remus likes you."
"What?!" I said, my head jerking up so I could look at her.
"You heard me, I think Remus likes you," she repeated.
"Mmhmm. He kept staring at you while we were dancing," Lily said.
"Come on guys, let's dance again!" I said as I tugged on their arms.
"I'm way too tired to dance, Al," Lily groaned.
"I'll dance with you!" Remus said and jumped up.
Lily gave me a look that said I told you so.
I rolled my eyes back with an accompanying look that said It's just dancing.
I followed Remus back to the 'dance floor'.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw James and Mary making out on the couch behind the drinks table. Merlin, for a guy who claimed to be in love for 4 years, he sure moves on fast.
Dancing with Remus was really fun. I thought it would be awkward without Lily because I didn't really know him, but our bonding over food at Hogsmeade seemed to have cancelled that out.
Suddenly, a slow song came on. I looked at Remus awkwardly, not knowing whether he would want to dance to this song with me.
Wow, his eyes are really golden.
And he is really tall.
"Um...dance this with me?" he asked, his eyes on the floor.
I drank another firewhisky as some Ravenclaw named Emma babbled on in front of me.
"...so what do you think?" She asked.
"Oh um..." What the hell was she talking about?
"Sirius, are you okay?" She asked leaning in closer to me. This was my queue to add some corny pick up line but my eyes drifted to over her shoulder.
"I think I'm going to puke," I said referring to how closely Remus and Alexis were dancing.
Emma hurriedly moved back from me, thinking that I was going to puke from the six bottles of firewhisky I'd drunk. Her eyes followed my gaze and she understood what I meant.
He even had his arms around her. WHAT WAS HE DOING?!
He knew I liked her. He was even the one to point out that I liked her. So why was he doing this?
"Why don't we dance Sirius?" She asked, but I wasn't paying attention. I pushed past her and stormed up to Remus.
I grabbed the back of his shirt and pulled him away.
"What the fuck do you think you're doing?" I growled.
"Um, dancing? Sirius I think you're drunk. You should go upstairs and sleep," Remus said.
"I'm not drunk! I've hardly drunk anything I'm so not drunk that I'm like sober and you only want me upstairs and out of the way so you can get with Alexis!" I shouted. I was so angry.
How could Moony have done this to me? He was supposed to be my best mate.
I drew my arm back to punch him but before I could move, he looked and me, pulled out his wand and said,
"What was that?" I asked Remus.
"That was Sirius drunk," he said.
"What was with the bit about you getting with me?" I used air quotation marks when I said 'getting with me'.
"uhhh..." he hesitated, "You should ask him tomorrow."
"I'm taking him upstairs now. I'll see you tomorrow?" He said as he hefted Sirius body over his shoulder and made his way to the staircase.
"Sure, bye Remus." Looking around the common room, I realised just how late it was.
The only people left were either the couples making out or a few drunks passed out in some very awkward positions, such as half on-half off the couch.
Sighing, I went back up to the dorms.
"Alexis!" Lily cried as I walked in. I looked up and saw her and Alice sitting on her bed, "you and Remus, eh?"
"What? Since when did you like Remus?" Alice shrieked.
"I don't," I rolled my eyes and plonked myself on Lily's bed, "Remus ended up stupefying Sirius."
"Wait, what? I thought you were dancing with Remus?" Lily asked.
"So you do like Remus!" Alice said triumphantly.
"No I don't! I was just dancing with him!" I said exasperatedly.
"Then why did Sirius get stupefied?" Lily asked.
"I was dancing with Remus and then a slow song came on and it was really awkward because I didn't know whether he wanted to dance to a slow song with me but then he asked me and so we did but the it was really weird because he like put his arms around me in like a hug but that's how we ended up dancing-it was like hug dancing."
I took a long breath, "We were coming to the end of the song when Sirius came up and just grabbed Remus and started yelling at him about something to do with me. He was really drunk, I think, and it was sort of getting out of hand and it looked like Sirius was going to punch Remus so Remus stupefied him."
"So Remus likes you," Lily said, "And so does Sirius."
"No," I said.
"C'mon, Al, it must have at least crossed your mind that at least Remus does," Lily said.
I was highly doubtful.
"Yeah, Al. I mean, Remus asked do slow dance with you," Alice nodded.
"No, I donít think Remus likes me but if he does, I don't like him back. I just want to be friends," I said firmly.
"Yet you were slow dancing with him?" Lily said.
"Yeah, it was a mistake. I think I gave him the wrong impression..." I trailed off.
"What about Sirius?" Alice asked
"Sirius is Hogwarts biggest player. He doesn't like girls, he just hooks up with them," I said, hoping they would realise I hadn't actually answered Alice's question.
"You didn't answer Alice's question." Damn Lily and her brains.
"I don't know," I said truthfully.
"What do you mean you don't know?" said Alice, "It's pretty simple. You like him yes or you like him no."
"Well, he's Sirius Black," I said.
"So? Come on, Al, itís not like weíre going to tell anyone," Alice asked.
"So...I don't want to be another one of his tissues."
"Tissues?" Ha, sometimes Lily and her brains weren't all that smart.
"Something he uses and then chucks away when he's done with them," I explained.
"You still haven't answered whether you like Sirius or not, Al."
"It's a simple yes or no," Lily added.
a.n. so she finally admits she like Sirius! And what do you think of Remus dacing with Alexis and Sirius being drunk? I'd love to hear what you think :)
marauders forever xx
