That was because of Professor Meriwether’s brain child.
A seating plan.
I kid you not.
Guess who I’m next to.
No, honestly, guess.
No. Not James.
Or even Severus.
I was sitting next to a one Miss Bellatrix Black.
“So today class we will be seeing what your non-verbal spell skills are like. You will be working in the pairs that you are sitting in so,” Meriwether’s talking, should probably listen, “ stop complaining Mr Black you are not working with Mr Potter again after last years, ah, incident. Now come on, chop chop. Get to it.”
I stood up and faced Bellatrix.
She’s looking especially evil today.
She sneered at me and whipped her wand around. I had just enough time to pull up a shield charm to block it before it reached me. I quickly reacted and sent a stunning spell her way but she deflected it and returned her own. I dodged that one and sent hex after jinx at her Shield charm until I finally broke through it with an impedimenta jinx.
Whilst I was waiting for her to regain movement so that we could continue I took a look around the classroom to see how everyone else was getting on. Alice was doing well but that may have been because Frank seemed reluctant to hurt her. Sirius and Remus were easily one of the best pairs in the class; their wands blurring with the speed of the movements. James was duelling…
I knew that James was an expert dueller but I also knew that Severus had a whole arsenal of personal spells that only he and I knew about because he had been the one to develop them. I was interested to see where this would go.
Neither seemed to be losing but neither seemed to be winning.
Oh well, I’m sure that they can handle themselves.
“Oi Evans!” I heard a shout form the other side of the room. I turned around and saw Jonathon Boot calling to me from the other side of the classroom. “You, Me, first Hogsmeade weekend. What do you think?” Honestly? I thought that it sounded terrible.
James had got Severus with a stunning spell and was now watching our conversation with interest. “Well Boot, I would –
And then the world went black.
“No, Boot, go away. No one wants you here.”
“Lily was about to say yes, she would want me here”
“Oh hell naww! She was never gonna say yes to you bro!”
“James. Never do that again.”
“Guys why don’t we all just shut up, you’re going to wake her.”
“Are you still here Boot?”
Where was I? And who’s doing all that shouting?
I appeared to be lying in a bed but…
Those sheets are definitely not the ones from Gryffindor tower either.
The people above me were still arguing.
“Why are you here anyway Potter?”
“I happen to be her… friend. What’s your excuse Boot?”
“I happen to be her future boyfriend. What about Lupin and Black, what are they doing here?”
Hold the phone. Future boyfriend? You’d think I would’ve noticed.
“Sirius and Remus are also her friends and you? Her future boyfriend? Please.”
Right. I’m putting an end to this.
I opened my eyes to realise that I was in the hospital wing. “All of you just shut up.” I said.
“Nice of you to join us!”
I was crushed by four people hugging me as I woke up.
“Ow – no – please – Alice – Sirius – Boot – oh, hi Remus – James… You can let go now.”
“Yeah Potter!” said Boot.
“What are you even doing here Boot?” I asked
“Well as you were just about to say that you were going to go to Hogsmeade with me I thought I should accompany you here.” He replied.
“Oh, well this is awkward. I was going to say no actually.” I pointed out. His face fell and James had a triumphant look on his face.
“Oh, well I’ll just go then shall I?” We all nodded and he left the hospital wing with his head down.
“So would anyone like to tell me what happened?” I addressed the whole group.
They all started talking at once but I managed to get the gist of what they were saying. Whilst I had been about to turn Boot down Bellatrix had regained movement and shot some sort of spell at me. Madam Pomfrey couldn’t undo its effects because she didn’t know what it was so they all just had to wait for me to wake up.
Speak of the devil here she comes now.
“Ah, you’re awake, good. Now, all of you lot can go. This girl needs her rest. Go on, out!” The group shuffled out grumbling under their breath.
That night I awoke with a start to find someone else sitting next to my bed. I sat up in an effort to see who it was. “Severus?” The figure jumped and turned to look at me. “What are you doing here?”
“I – I came to see how you were, you know, with the whole being cursed thing.”
“No one said anything about a curse…”
“Oh, well, what else could it be? I mean you were unconscious for a fair few hours…” he trailed off.
“Well it would have been a jinx or a hex.” I pointed out and Severus looked a bit guilty, “Severus, what do you know?”
“I … um … might have taught Bellatrix the curse.” He mumbled.
“You what?!” I exclaimed “Why would you teach one of your spells to her? I thought I was the only one you shared your spells with!”
“Well, you were. That’s were, past tense. Now you don’t even want to be friends with me so I don’t see why I should teach you anything.”
“When did I say I didn’t want to be your friend?”
“Oh I don’t know. Maybe when we met in the summer before you swanned off to Potter’s? Or maybe it was pretty clear when you and he were … were… Anyway I didn’t come here for a row.”
“Well then what did you come here for then?” I was shouting at him now.
“I don’t know anymore. And what’s more I don’t care.” With that, he left.
I'm sooooooory! I haven't written in so long! I had a teensy ickle bit of block but hey now...
And I have many more ideas.
Anyway, what did you think?
