Bella woke up with a start. Why though? She looked around curiously and noticed something in the gloom of the forest.
It was a Death Eater approaching her camp. But she was safe. No one could see her, unless her safety charms had failed.
The Death Eater got closer and closer to her and walked right by the fallen tree, where she was lying. Even though she knew the Death Eater couldn’t see, hear, or smell her, she held her breath and froze.
The Death Eater walked by and into the gloom. Bella let out a breath and sighed. Dumbledore had been right; Voldemort was searching for her.
Chilly, she got up and started a fire. The muggle way. She rubbed two rocks against each other and was soon rewarded with a warm fire.
Once again her thoughts turned to her sister. Voldemort was sure to punish her. Rodolphus would be fine; he had tried to stop her. But Cissy!
Bella made up her mind to talk to Dumbledore and perhaps they could rescue her. Yes, that was a good plan.
Now her thoughts turned to the Death Eaters roaming the forest. Eventually she would slip and the Death Eaters would come flocking towards her.
Soon, Bella grew bored and lost herself in thought once more. What would she do with herself now? She couldn’t just forget the war… Bella could only see one plausible future: fighting for the Order of the Phoenix.
Would they accept her? Dumbledore would, for sure. This was his entire fault really. Would they blame her for Sirius’s death? Surely not, she had tried to stop Rodolphus from killing Sirius. But the werewolf, Lupin... They had been close.
She continued to be lost in her thoughts until she heard a loud crack followed by even more cracks. Was it the Order or more Death Eaters?
Bella stood up and stomped the fire out. All to soon, she heard footsteps coming near her. She pulled out her wand and flinched when she realized it was the Dark – no Voldemort.
Her heart racing, she saw an opportunity to assassinate him. He didn’t know she was here. One placed curse and it would be all over.
Bella pointed her wand at him, her arm shaking, and whispered, “Avada Kedavra!”
Voldemort’s eyes flashed and he dodged the curse. He looked over at Bella and he grinned evilly. “Oh Bellatrix, my dear…”
Bella backed up and took off at a run. She couldn’t apparate; they would just follow her. So she could only run. She looked backwards, and saw Voldemort standing there. He pressed his fingers down on his forearm.
Bella felt a burning sensation on her arm but continued to run. She heard several cracks around her. Some sixth sense told her to duck, and she did, a curse narrowly missing her.
She stood up and shot a curse behind her. A scream of pain told her it had hit a Death Eater. The trees and bushes slowly gave away and she entered a field. She headed for a derelict farmhouse. If she could reach there, set a few wards, she’d be safe and she could wait for the Order.
But then there were cracks in front of her and several figures appeared. Her heart leapt when she recognized the old man in the middle. It was Dumbledore and the Order.
She heard Dumbledore yell, “Duck!” And she did. Curses flew over her head at the forest behind her.
Bella summoned a final burst of energy and sprinted for the Order. Dumbledore yelled, “Fall back to the farmhouse! We’ll be safe there!”
The Order plus Bella ran to the farmhouse and set up wards. “All right!” shouted Dumbledore, “Everyone head to a window!”
Bella headed for a window and recognized the Order members. There was Remus Lupin, Mad Eye Moody, Elphias Doge, Emmeline Vance, Hestia Jones, Bill Weasley, and Dedalus Diggle.
Dumbledore headed for the same window. Bella shot curse after curse out of the window into the forest.
Eventually, all the Death Eaters disapparated. The Order members all congregated around Dumbledore on the first floor. “We won,” he said simply.
