After about ten minutes of just sitting there I thought that I should change because I was still wearing the outfit that they had picked for me.
I sat on my bed again.
No, this couldn’t be right. I mean it was James for goodness sake! I know that he likes me and everything but that was fake!
It didn’t feel fake.
Shut up heart!
We enjoyed it
And you can be quiet too lips.
Just as I was having a mental argument with parts of my body I heard a soft knock on the door. Then it opened and James popped his head round. “Err… Lily, can I come in?” Wait what? He was asking? I shrugged and he came and sat on the bed next to me. He didn’t look so cocky anymore.
“So, that was some kiss you gave me” his grin returned. We like it when he grins! No-one’s asking you eyes! “What do you mean? That was completely fake and you know it!” Lying. “Liar” he said. Creepy, I know! “If that was fake then what was with the look on your face afterwards?” Hark who’s talking. “What about the look on your face?” I threw back at him. Now he looked awkward.
“Well,” he said after a long pause, “I was shocked because, well for a supposedly fake kiss it seemed pretty real.”
“In what way?” I was drawing this out as long as possible
“Well, you seemed pretty into it to me.” He looked up at me. Merlin I love his eyes. Did I really just think that? “Well, it was fake and that’s all there is to it, so if you’d leave now please?” I snapped.
“Oh, ok then.” Now look what you’ve done Lily! He’s all upset now. “I’ll see you later Lily.” He left the room before I could stop him.
Well ain’t that just swell.
James avoided me for the rest of the day. Well it might not have been avoidance but he shut himself in his room all day. I think I preferred the annoying James.
A bit later Sirius came to talk to me in my room. “Do you know what’s up with James? I came up earlier after your little errm… ‘show’ but when I went into our room he left straight away and came in here. He came back afterwards looking like a lost puppy. He sat on his bed and hasn’t moved since. Or talked for that matter.”
I groaned and flopped face down onto my pillow. Why did I have to snap!
I sat up. Sirius was still there. I explained what had happened when he came in, “and then he just walked out and I felt really bad because he looked so upset so I think maybe it didn’t feel fake to him.” I finished with a sigh and flopped back down again.
Why is it all so bloody confusing?
Sirius sat down next to me. “The question is, you see, whether you felt anything.” I sat up again. He was giving me a searching look. “Well that’s the thing. I don’t know if I did. I think I felt something but I don’t know whether I wanted to or not. Even if I did I wouldn’t want to tell him because at the moment he’s annoying me more than he’s charming me!” Sirius looked a bit baffled. I couldn’t blame him. “The thing is Lily, James really likes you and his way of charming is annoying you. I saw you that morning when he picked you up and carried you into our room. You may have been hitting and yelling at him but you were laughing all the same.” Damn he’s observant. “Look,” I said “I don’t know what I want at the moment but I’d rather he went back to being annoying than acting like this. It’s like being at an extra-long funeral!” Sirius laughed. “I’ll go talk to him” he said “ and by the way, this extra-long funeral business, this is what we have to put up with every time you say no to going to Hogsmeade with him.” And with that he left
The next day I set my alarm so that I would be awake before James normally wakes me up. He was going to get it this time.
I woke up and was pleased to see that my room was empty apart from me. I could hear footsteps coming down the hall though so I quickly closed my eyes and waited. I heard someone open the door, I sneaked a quick glance, James, good. I waited until he was so close that I could feel his breath on my face. It smelt like peppermint, had he brushed his teeth already? I snapped my eyes open just in time to see his expression change from grinning to shocked to scared. I jumped out of bed and sat on his stomach so he was stuck. This whole pinning people down is becoming quite de-ja-vu like now. “Morning Evans” he said. The cocky grin making a comeback. “That,” I said “is for being such an arse all day yesterday.” Then I shocked him even more by bending down and giving him a quick peck on the cheek. “And that,” I continued fighting back a laugh at his face, “is to apologise for me being such an arse yesterday.” Then I got up and helped him to his feet.
“So do I have to apologise then?” he asked raising an eyebrow. “No, it’s alright. I got my revenge.”
He looked disappointed. I laughed. “This doesn’t change anything you know,” I told him, “I was just making sure that you knew not to do it again!”
He smiled. His nose goes all crinkly when he does a genuine smile. Aww. Shut up brain!
Over the rest of the holidays he was actually relatively nice to me. In an annoying sort of way. I only had to threaten him with death in a couple of occasions. The rest of the time the promise that I would make it so he couldn’t have children in later life sufficed.
I have to admit though by the time August 31st rolled around I was definitely looking forward to seeing Alice. As much as I was starting to not hate the boys, I needed some girl time with my best friend.
