I crossed my arms across my chest and glared at him. “And what is it you want to speak to me about?” He sighed and pointed towards the table.
“Have a seat.” I hesitantly sat down in the chair that Lucius was referring to. “Now, I know that you and I haven’t gotten on the right foot, and it seems appropriate that we do so because you are going to be around for a long while.”
Whoa, is Lucius Malfoy trying to make amends? These are definitely not his words. “Did Narcissa tell you to apologize to me?”
“No, she doesn’t even know we are having this conversation.” I tilted my head a bit to study his face for any indication that he was lying. Either he was really good at hiding it or he was actually being sincere.
“Why now? You tried to get Draco to break up with me and get together with Pansy. You called me filth. You…”
He held up his hand to cut me off. “Yes, I am aware of my actions. And now I realize that they were foolish. My son is happy with you. All I want is his happiness. If you supply it, then I have no room to stand in the way of you two being involved with each other.”
I partly believed him, but I needed more answers.
“Earlier this year, I found the journal that you gave to Draco. Do you care to explain?” I thought I saw a flicker of regret and guilt in the older man’s eyes, but it quickly disappeared.
“What did you read?” he asked coldly.
“I read two entries. One where you talked about torturing Draco with the Cruciatus Curse and the one where you wanted me killed when I was only a baby.”
He gave a small smirk.
“And I take it that since you mentioned the entry with Draco, you are more concerned about it?” I nodded slightly and he sighed. He sat down across from me and folded his arms across his chest.
“There is no excuse as to why I did that to my own son, but at the time, it was the only way I knew how to act. All I knew were the Death Eater ways; Purebloods over everybody else. I tried to raise Draco like that, but he was resistant. He didn’t understand why blood mattered. At the time, I thought he was just being defiant like any child at his age and punished him. If I am correct in assuming, you probably stopped after the line about his screams. If you would’ve read on, you would know that I deeply regret it. I wish I never stooped so low as to torture my own son.”
I nodded and got up from my chair. “You know Malfoy; you’re not that bad after all. I would like to get on the right foot; as you put it.”
He nodded curtly and dismissed me with a wave of his hand. I quickly made my way to the parlor where I last left Draco. He wasn’t in there, but Trix was.
“Where’d Draco get off to?”
“Oh, he’s up in his room. Here, I’ll take you.” I followed her up the steps and down the hallway to the last door on the right. She hugged me, wished me goodnight, and walked away to her room.
I opened the door and was amazed by the room I was in. Looking straight ahead, there was a glass sliding door with a little balcony outside. There was a walk in closet (when isn’t there?) and a huge arse bed on the right side of the room. There was a large oak desk on the left. I was slightly confused because I didn’t see Dray right away, but when I looked again, I saw him on the balcony. I walked up to him and wrapped my arms around his middle and kissed his shoulder.
“Hello there, handsome.” He turned around and pecked me on the lips.
“Where have you been? I thought you said you were just going to get a drink of water and be right back.”
“Well, your father was in the kitchen. I just had a chat with him.”
“About?”
“Nothing special; we just talked.”
He sighed and smiled a bit. “You’re not going to tell me; are you?”
“Probably not.”
He pulled me into a tight embrace. “He didn’t hurt you, did he?” he whispered.
“No.” He breathed out a sigh of relief and kissed the top of my head.
“I thought that was the reason you aren’t going to tell me.”
“I guess I’ll tell you since you’re being so paranoid. He told me that he wants your happiness and wants to get back on the right foot with me.”
Draco pulled back and smiled at me. “Really?” he asked, exasperated. I nodded and he bounded into the room and jumped onto his bed. I laughed and joined him. He pulled me down and nuzzled my neck. He placed butterfly kisses down my neck and on my collarbone.
“Ah!” I squealed, laughing. He found my lips and kissed me with such passion, love, and happiness.
We lied on the bed for a while before Draco stood up and took me with him. “How about you go shower and get ready for bed? It’s been a long day.” I agreed and went into the bathroom. When I was done, I walked out and expected to see a happy Draco, but I got the complete opposite. He was standing against the wall looking at me with a hard expression. He was peeved.
“What the hell were you thinking?” he yelled. I automatically knew what he was talking about. Lucius probably told him about our entire conversation; including the part where we talked about the journal. “I told you he hasn’t done it in forever and he was sorry! Why did you have to bring it up?”
I sighed.
“Draco…”
“Tell me, god dammit!!”
“I was going to if you didn’t cut me off!” I exclaimed. He crossed his arms and beckoned me to go on. I growled and tried to keep myself calm as I spoke. “I needed to hear it from his perspective.”
“That’s not a good reason!”
“If you read something my dad wrote about torturing me, wouldn’t you want to know why even though I told you he was sorry?!”
“Don’t change the subject! This is about me and you prying into my business!”
“Well, if you didn't have the journal in your bookshelf, none of this would have happened!”
“If you wouldn't have gone snooping through my things, you wouldn't have found the journal!” he yelled back.
“I wasn't snooping through your things; for Merlin’s sake! It wasn’t like I was saying to myself, ‘Oh let’s see what dirty secrets Draco has!’ I was just looking for something to read!”
He growled at me and walked out onto the balcony. I gave him a dirty look, walked out the bedroom door, and slammed it shut. I slid down to the floor and held my knees to my chest.
Why did I have to bring it up with Lucius? Why did I have to be so freaking stupid? Draco probably hates me now, I thought to myself. I really have to learn how to keep my mouth shut! Wait, this wasn’t my fault; it was Lucius’s! He was the one who told Draco!
I got up from the ground and practically ran downstairs to the kitchen where I found Lucius sitting with his wife. “Ah, Natalie is there anything you need?” Narcissa asked kindly. I shook my head but kept my gaze on the older Malfoy man.
“Why did you tell Draco?! Because of you, we got into a big arse fight and now he hates me!” I exclaimed.
“What are you talking about, dear?” Narcissa asked, turning to her husband with a look of utter confusion.
“He asked to know what we were discussing.” Lucius said coolly.
“You didn't have to tell him the part about the journal! You could have kept that part to yourself!” I said.
“He had the right to know.” I groaned and stormed out of the kitchen. I didn't want to be by myself because I knew I would do something stupid or cry myself to sleep. I didn't want to go through that.
I finally decided to go up and talk to Trixie. When I got to the door, I heard hushed voices.
“Urgh, I hate when she does this stuff! First, she goes behind my back and reads it; then she has to bring it up with Father!” Draco said.
“Dray, she found the journal by accident. Curiosity killed the cat, as they say. She read it, but she didn’t keep that from you. She was honest and told you she found it. And talking to Uncle Luce was, in my opinion, the right thing to do. She needed to know why a father would do that to his son. She loves you, Dray. If she didn’t care, she wouldn’t have brought it up with him. And also, she was deprived of a father. He was killed when she was only a few months old. You have to understand that she just doesn't get what it’s like to have a father. And having a father is supposed to be the most wonderful thing in the world, so why would someone do that to their child? You have to look at it from her point of view, Dray.” Trixie replied softly.
“Thanks Trix.” I whispered.
Just then, the door opened and Draco was standing there. “Oh, now you’re eavesdropping?”
“No, I was going to come to talk to Trixie.” I said, looking down at the floor.
“Whatever.” He then pushed passed me and walked away to his room. That’s when I fell apart. That’s when I burst into tears. Trixie quickly came up to me and hugged me tight.
“He hates me!” I exclaimed through my sobs.
“He doesn't hate you, hon.”
“Yes he does! He completely walked away from me! He hates me!”
“Why don’t you go talk to him?”
“He won’t listen! He’ll just yell at me!”
“You won’t know unless you try.” she said calmly. I sighed and agreed she was right. So, I mustered up some of that Gryffindor courage and made my way to Draco’s room.
I walked through the door and saw his figure in the bed and the lights were off, so I assumed he was in bed. I sighed and went onto the balcony. If he really does hate me, I thought; then he’ll probably want me to leave. I quickly and quietly made my way into the closet and packed a bag to take with me. I then went back outside and climbed over the rail of the balcony.
I was just about to climb down when I lost my footing and began falling. My life pretty much flashed before my eyes, but then I felt something firmly grab my wrist. I was being pulled up and then my feet were firmly on the ground.
“What the hell do you think you were doing?!” a voice exclaimed. “Are you trying to get yourself killed?!”
“No, I was going to leave.”
“Why?”
“You hate me, Draco. Why would you want me here?” He caressed my cheek and looked at me sadly.
“I don’t hate you.”
“Then why…”
Before I could say anything else, he closed the distance between us and kissed me passionately and desperately. He held me like if he let go, I would disappear. We broke apart and he rested his forehead against mine.
“I love you.” he softly said. “And I’m never letting you go."
