A/N: another chapter, another day. Although I am fully aware no-one reads my rubbish, I feel I should apologise for my sporadic (at best) posting. Just started my A-Levels, and Great God! 'the stars often disappeared in the light of the morning whilst I was yet engaged in my laboratory' (little 'Frankenstein' quote for ya there, but you should know, I suck at Science, so no eight foot monster who is capable of living on nuts will be chasing my loved ones.) Gotta love Mary Shelley.

Read, and Review on, my literacy (and imaginary) friends! And also never, ever decide that because it's too hard to make a normal sized monster, make a giant one.

LILY:

I decided that Eva would be fun to hang around with. She seemed slightly sceptical of the Marauders and their pig-headedness and I was pretty sure Remus liked her- a lot. I’ve never seen him laugh so much than at those cartoons. We went up the spiral stairs to my- now our dormitory. I paused before the door- I could hear high-pitched giggles. I internally cringed, but I suppose it’s better to get the painful stuff out of the way quickly.

“Are you ready?” I asked her.

Eva raised her eyebrows. “What for?”

“Meeting our roommates.” I grinned. This was like an initiation.

“Should I be worried?” she started to ask, but I opened the door and pushed her through. There was silence for about half a second, before the squealing started. Libby and Jess were positively fawning over her, not in an ‘ooh new girl, let’s get to know her’ kind of way, but in an ‘ooh fresh meat, let’s bitch’. Let me get one thing straight. Lily Evans does not hate people- in general. I dislike. But I was willing to make an exception for these two airheads. I loathed them. Thankfully, so did Alice, our only other sane roommate.

“Who is that?” she asked, sitting up on her bed. “And why couldn’t I find you anywhere?”

“I was showing our new girl around, Eva Llewellyn,” I explained. My bed was the closest to the door and I flopped onto it. “And the Marauders decided they wanted to hang around with us, so we had their company forced upon us.”

“You had a great day,” Alice said with supressed laughter, running her hand through her short hair. “So what is Eva like?”

I shrugged. “She’s nice. We’ll see if she survives this.”

Just then, a scream sounded. Bizarrely, it was Eva. Alice and I pulled back our drapes to see her standing in the middle of Libby and Jess.

She slapped Libby’s hand away, which had frozen in the act of playing with her hair. “You will get off my hair and if you touch me ever again I will curse you into next week.”

I was definitely starting to like Eva. That was more than either I or Alice had ever said to the bimbos in the five years we’d been here.

Jess screwed her face up. And Eva’s expression was completely horrified. “You can’t talk to me like that!” Jess wailed. “I’m Sirius’ giiiiirlfriend!”

I thought Eva was going to explode. “Then Sirius is even more of a prick than I thought he was!” she yelled. “And what does that have to do with anything?!”

Jess stamped her foot. Actually stamped it. “I. Am. A. Girlfriend. Of. Sirius. Black.”

“And you have a really annoying voice,” said Eva. “Anything else you’d like to share?” she stalked over to us, and lay down on her bed. “Lily, I hate you.”

EVA:

Lily had the grace to look ashamed. “I didn’t think you’d flip out like that.”

I was astonished. “How could anyone not react like that? They were playing with my hair! I’m not a doll! You have to be a special person to touch my hair. Like Samson.”

One of the Demon Sisters flitted to my side, like an overlarge and slightly glittery butterfly. “Who’s Samson then? Is he your boyfriend? Tell-”

I silenced her with one of those looks which could metaphorically kill. “He’s a Greek hero with long hair who killed lots of people.”

The other girl Lily was sitting with had to stuff a pillow in her mouth to stop her from laughing. I smiled at her. She had a kind, round face with black hair cut boyishly short and looked like one of those people who you could turn to no matter what the crisis. My smile faded a little. I needed people like that more than I would have liked.

The girl had recovered from laughing. “I love the classics!” she snorted. “I’m Alice, Alice Prewitt. And I’m so glad to have you here!”

Her enthusiasm was infectious and felt genuine. I could practically feel my anger slipping away. “Who are they?” I asked, jerking my thumb at the devil incarnate.

“Libby and Jess,” said Lily, chucking me a Chocolate Frog and leaning back against her pillows. I perched at the end of her bed. “Short for?”

“Elizabeth and Jessica?”

“No. Liberty and Justice.”

I snorted. “You’re kidding.”

They shook their heads. “No word of a lie,” said Alice, eyebrows raised.

I grimaced. “Cruel parents.”

“Cruel children,” said Lily. “We reckon the only reason they’re in Gryffindor is because we’re the only house brave enough to cope with them.”

I burst out laughing, and glanced over at the girls. They were now crouched in the space between their beds with a cauldron wedged between them which had puffs of pink and green smoke sporadically rising from it.

“What’s that?”

“A love potion,” answered Alice. “We think they’re trying to get Remus for Libby. They only brew it in here because we don’t care enough to tell anyone.”

“Might tell Remus though,” said Lily. “It shouldn’t have green smoke unless you’ve added the wrong quantity of Ashwinder eggs and too early, and I’m worried for his health.”

Alice and I exchanged a long-suffering glance, but Lily saw and threw a pillow at my head, defiantly biting into a Bertie Bott’s bean.

She spat it out, spluttering.

“Vomit!” she coughed, which of course made us laugh harder.
