“Where are we? Is this Heaven?” Dora asks.
“I don’t know, Dora. But at least we’re together.” I take her hand. She sighs and looks around.
“I shouldn’t have left him.”
“You couldn’t have lived with yourself if you hadn’t. He’ll understand.” I hope.
“But he’s all alone.” Surprisingly, she isn’t crying. But neither am I. Actually, I feel quite peaceful.
“He has his Grandmother. And Harry. And the Weasley’s. He’ll be fine.” She puts her head on my bare unscarred chest, and I notice we’re naked. The instant I notice it, I see two piles of clothes lying a few feet away. “Here are some clothes,” I say. “Let’s get dressed.”
The clothes are my favourite: a t-shirt Dora had bought me before Sirius had died, and a pair of comfortable jeans. I pull them on, and look over at Dora. She looks different, though I can’t tell how.
I look at the clothes as I put them on. My favourite Weird Sisters Tee and my most comfy ripped up jeans. I know I should feel bad, but I don’t. It’s really quite peaceful. I look at Remus and smile.
“You’re right. He has a great family. I just hope he isn’t angry at us.”
“He won’t be.” He steps toward me, but then he stops and frowns.
“I think I’m going back.”
“I’ve got to go, Dora. I love you.” He vanishes. I sit down and look around. It’s still really foggy. A few minutes later (or maybe its hours, or days, or years, I can’t tell) he comes back.
Dora’s just sitting there when I walk over to her.
“It was Harry. Somehow, he brought me back. But he let me go. I asked him to take care of Teddy.” She smiles at me. I look around for Lily, James and Sirius, but they must have stayed longer. I touch her pink hair, and she looks up at me. Then I notice what’s different. The wariness is gone from her eyes.
“Why did you go?”
“I think he needed encouragement, really. He’s going to fight Voldemort.”
“He’ll do fine.” She nods, standing.
“Oh, look. There are others.” James, Lily, and Sirius walk over to us.
“Sirius,” I say, hugging him. “You look amazing.” I look at the other two. “You must be James and Lily.” They smile at me.
“This is Dora,” Remus says, introducing us. “My wife.”
“So, Remus finally let go of his fears?” James asks. I smile up at Remus.
“Yep.” I answer for him. I look up at him. He looks different, younger. He looks closer to my age. And his scars are gone.
Suddenly, a brilliant light shines.
“That’s us,” James says. “Probably you too.” James, Lily, and Sirius start walking toward the light.
“What should we do?” I ask.
“Let’s go,” Remus says, putting his arm around me. “We should move on.” I look into the light, and think I see Dad, and Moody. There’s a man that looks like Remus, and a woman who has his kind expression. I smile.
Together, we walk into the light.
