Its crazy how much can change in one day. One hour. One minute. One second. Everything around you is constantly changing but as I stood there watching Ron and Lavender kiss everything stopped for a moment as my heart broke to pieces. The pain that I felt in that moment was unlike anything I had ever felt. Just like that things had changed. Time began to move again as I turned from the scene and began to flee from the common room before someone realized that I had started to cry.
I had thought that after the catastrophe of the Yule Ball in our fourth year Ron and I would finally be on the same page but it appeared that I had been wrong. Corridors passed by as I ran, not really paying attention to where I was going. I just knew that I needed to put as much distance between me and the common room as I could before I broke down.
I saw a classroom up ahead and decided to go inside the safety of its doors. The classroom had been unused for many years now but according to Hogwarts A History, most of the now vacant classrooms had once been used for clubs such as Wizards Chess Club. I didn’t make it much past the doors before I started to break down. I sat down and brought my legs to my chest and wrapped my arms around them. Placing my head on my knees, I continued to cry.
The scene of Lavender jumping on Ron continued to play itself over and over in my mind feeding more pain and anger to my aching heart. I looked up as I heard a noise coming from behind me and looked towards the source. Sure enough the door to the classroom was opening and the sounds of giggling grew louder. The two people I least wanted to see walked, or should I say fumbled, into the room. Ron was holding onto Lavender, attached at the lips, and trying to walk backwards, neither of them realizing that the room was already occupied.
I stared at them, wishing it was me in Lavender’s place but also disgusted that they would act this way. I wiped the tears from my eyes and stood up. This had to end! I was not going to be the sad girl pining away after someone who was not interested. After looking at them one last time, I cleared my throat trying to get their attention.
Lavender finally heard me after a few times. She looked up, caught my eye, and lightly pushed Ron away from her.
“Ronny, it looks like this room is already taken,” Lavender said.
Ron looked up to see what Lavender was talking about.
“Oh, hey Hermione,” Ron said, his face tinged with a light blush.
“Come on Ron, lets find a different room,” Lavender said grabbing Ron’s hand and pulling him in the direction of the door.
Ron had turned to follow her but instead he suddenly stopped and stared at the shadowed corner with a quizzical look upon his face. After a few moments pause he turned back around, shrugged his shoulders, and allowed the rather impatient Lavender to pull him out of the room. When Ron and Lavender were completely gone from the room I looked over to the corner and stared, waiting for something to happen. Finally, it happened, a slight movement had come from the corner.
“Who’s there?” I called out questioningly to the seemingly empty space.
I heard a slight murmur and after a moment’s pause a shadowed figure appeared. When the person finally stepped out into the light, I gasped. It was Malfoy!
“Hello, Granger.” Malfoy sneered staring at me.
