I was looking out over the grounds at Hogwarts from the astronomy tower. My blonde, curly hair blowing gently in the breeze. The astronomy tower was my place, it was the only place I could be alone. Scholl officially starts in one week but I had to be here because I was the daughter of Professor Snape one of the most intimidating professors at Hogwarts.
The rest of the week went by quickly and I spent most of the time doing inventory with dad in the potion ingredients cupboard. One the night of everyone’s arrival I was sitting in the astronomy tower waiting for the lights of the boats to signal the start of my fourth year at Hogwarts, and with a new year comes as new attitude and I, Haven Lily Snape vow to change my ways
“I, Haven Lily Snape will no longer be a fighter or a slut but a quiet, bookworm,” I murmured
“Yeah right, like that will ever happen, there is a reason you’re my best friend and I know for a fact that Haven Lily Snape, the quiet bookworm will never happen,” someone stated from behind me. I turned to find that my best friend Harry Potter was standing behind me. I met him in the first Defence against the Dark Arts class we ever had bonding over how we both thought that Professor Quirrel was a stuttering fool. We’ve been best friends ever since, even though I wasn’t part of the ‘golden trio’ because I was housed in Slytherin I was still best friends with Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. I don’t care what anyone says Hermione is a kick ass witch and the only reason I’m passing muggle studies. Though I don’t I normally hang out with them at the main meals, we’re always together in classes and before we go to sleep.
“HARRY!” I squealed, I jumped up and hugged him, I hadn’t seen him all holidays.
“The boats haven’t arrived yet, how come you’re here?” I questioned
“If I didn’t know any better, I would think you weren’t happy to see me,” I laughed
“Dumbledore wanted the Weasley’s here and because Hermione and I where there we flooed over with them last night,”
“And you couldn’t come and find me?!” I exclaimed
“We were tired,’ a different voice said ‘we wanted to sleep,’ a mass of red hair appeared out of the shadows
“Ron! Is Hermione here?” I hugged him
“Yes, I’m here, now get off Ron and hug me!’ I rolled my eyes. Hermione was my partner in crime, I guess you could say. I was a little more forward as she was shy; I was the only person she told everything to, for example I was the only one that knew that she was hopelessly in love with Ron. But of course I told her everything too, she was the only one that knew that I despite my reputation I hadn’t actually done the nasty, contrary to popular rumours.
Hermione, Harry, Ron and I entered the grand hall together and I whispered to her
“How’s the Ron situation?” she blushed
“He still doesn’t know, and I don’t plan on him knowing either, at least not for a few years anyway,”
“Come off it ‘Mione, you and I both know that he likes you, hey its fourth year, isn’t there a Yule ball or something?’
“How did you know about the Yule Ball? Dumbledore only told a select few students and you weren’t one,’
“Duh, come on Hermione my last name is Snape, my dad is Severus Snape, I know these things,’ I laughed. We parted ways as I went to the Slytherin house table and sat at the end by myself, other than the golden trio, I don’t have friends. I dazed off in a haze as Dumbledore made a speech about the visiting schools and the tri-wizard tournament. Then the first years where housed and the feast began, I barely ate anything anxious to go back to the common room and start studying. I wanted to be an auror and I figured there was no pain in getting a head start on everything. I slung my bag onto my shoulder and made my way to the common room with everyone else. I saw his pale blonde hair peeking through the tops of the crowd. Though he wasn’t hard to miss he was a lot taller than most of the students at Hogwarts. He walked past me and knocked me to the floor accidentally, my books spilled out of my arms and onto the floor, he then turned and realised he had knocked over a Slytherin and not just a random.
“I’m sorry, truly,”
“No you’re not,” his grey eyes bore into me
“Yes, I am, I’m Malfoy, Draco Malfoy,”
“I know, I’ve been in your house for four years, you’ve never noticed me before,”
“Are you sure you’re not new, a transfer from Beauxbatons or something, I’m pretty sure I would remember a gorgeous person such as yourself,”
“Yeah, I’m sure,” I was sure my purple eyes where now turning a dark colour with annoyance, who was he to say that I was a transfer?! Just because he didn’t notice me doesn’t mean I was a transfer! I got up and started to walk away when I felt a hand grip my wrist
“Gorgeous, I didn’t get a name”
“Snape, Haven Snape,” I said matching his tone. I saw him stunned, his mouth dropped open and I walked in the direction to the dungeons with a sense of smug satisfaction.
I opted out from going to the common room and headed towards the potions classroom instead, I entered to see my father standing there looking over lesson plans for the term without looking up he said
“Haven, what are you doing here?”
“Well, hello to you to father,” I said sarcastically, he smirked
“Dad, I was wondering if I could have the potions for the first few weeks so I could practice them,”
“Well, I suppose you can because of the simple reason that your O.W.L.s are next year and I guess you should study up,”
“Thanks dad, I app-” I was cut off by the sound of footsteps entering the room
“Professor Snape, I was hoping to find you here,”
“Mr Malfoy, what do you need?”
“I was hoping that I could get ahead on the class by having the first few weeks of potions homework early,” my father went to the back office and pulled out two folders of homework and potion recipes and handed one to Draco and I each
“Mr Malfoy, you may leave I need to speak to Haven about her extra-curricular activities,” Malfoy left silently and disappeared out the door
“What’s wrong dad?”
“Nothing I just wanted him to leave so I could do this,” he walked over to me and gave me a hug, I immediately understood why, my father isn’t that good with public displays of affection
“Night dad,” I gave him another hug and then walked out of the classroom whilst tucking my homework in my bag.
“So, Haven Snape, how have I never noticed a beauty like you before?” Draco said
“Maybe the fact that I have never paid any attention to you like every other girl in Slytherin, Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw, I’m not one to swarm after a guy,” lie, I liked him since first year
“Well, why not? I’m gorgeous, rich, smart, well-travelled, did I mention gorgeous,”
“Not to mention modest, arrogant, egotistical,”
“Ouch Haven, that hurt,”
“Glad I left a mark,” by this time we were at the dungeons
“Pureblood,” I muttered and the door swang open. I plonked down on one of the leather couches in the middle of the common room; everyone was in their dorms, at a party or stumbling around the grounds drunk
“Why aren’t you at the party Haven?’ he sat down next to me and put his arm around me
“It’s not my scene,”
“Not your scene?! I did some research on you Haven and I have found out that you have lap danced the entire boy population of Hufflepuff, gotten drunk and table danced at nearly every party and I happen to know for a fact that fire whisky is your beverage of choice,”
“So? I opted for a night in for once, change of attitude for the new year,”
“That’s bull, if I’m going to get to know you more, what better way to do it then at a party and I happen to know that there is one going on in the Gryffindor common room right now, so go upstairs and get changed, we’re going to a party,” he said with a smirk.
