“Hey, Lily!” I said walking up to her smiling. “I was wondering-“ but I was cut off there.
“You arrogant insufferably PRAT!!” Lily screamed at me. “Why won’t you just leave me alone?! When will you get it through that thick skull of yours that I DO NOT WANT TO DATE YOU AND I NEVER WILL!!!!!”
“Lily,” I said in hopes that she would actually let me speak.
“YOU’RE A BULLYING EGOTISICAL TOE RAG! WHY WOULD I GO OUT WITH A BULLY?! I AM SICK AND TRIED OF YOU ALWAYS ASKING ME OUT JUST FOR A LAUGH! I DO NOT LIKE YOU, I HAVE NEVER LIKED YOU, AND I WILL NEVER LIKE YOU! YOU WALK AROUND THIS SCHOOL AS IF YOU OWN IT! WHILE I GOT NEWS FOR, YOU DON’T! YOU USE PEOPLE FOR YOUR OWN SELFISH REASONS!!!!! YOU HAVE NOTHING TO OFFER THIS WORLD BUT CRUELTY!!! YOU-“ but at that I cut her off.
“LILY! SHUT UP FOR ONCE IN YOUR LIFE AND JUST LISTEN!” I screamed at her. “I WAS NOT GOING TO ASK YOU OUT! I JUST WANTED TO KNOW WHO WE WERE GETTING TO PLAY AT THE YULE BALL! I’M TRIED OF YOU ALWAYS ASSUMING THE WORST OF ME! I’M TRIED OF TRYING TO PLEASE YOU! I’M TRIED OF TRYING TO CHANGE MYSELF FOR YOU!”
“Potter,” Lily whispered.
“Don’t you dare ‘Potter’ me. I am through with you Evans. I’m done being put down for every little thing I do. Do you even realize how hard it is for me to keep coming back to you? Do you even realize how much each of your words hurt me? Do you even realize how much I’ve loved you these past seven years? I’m done with trying to please you,” I said in a low voice. “I have finally got it through my thick skull that I can never have you, that you would rather go out with the giant squid than with me as you so nicely put. Like you’ve begged me to do so many times before, I am giving up.”
I was shocked to say the least, and strangely sad. But I should have felt pleased shouldn’t I? Finally after almost seven years of wishing it came true! But was what he said true? Did I really hurt him when I yelled at him? Did he really love me? No! He’s just being a git again trying to make me feel bad for something that isn’t even true. But maybe he wasn’t lying. He had made a lot of changes this year. He even stopped asking me out.
At that moment my best friend Marlene Mckinnon came up to me interrupting my thoughts. “Lily, I love you and all but you really did it this time. I have a feeling that that boy is finally done with you and a lot of other things.”
“What do you mean?” I asked.
“Lily, that boy only lived for you. For the hope that one day you would be his and now that that’s gone what do you think he has?” she asked.
“Y-y-you think h-he would ever d-do that, right?” I stuttered. The thought of never seeing James again scared me more then I would have liked. Could it be that after pushing him away for years and succeeding in doing so, that I may actually like him?
“Time will tell, Lils,” with that Marlene left me alone with my very confused thoughts.
It’s been one week since the ‘incident’ as it has come to be known and James has only become more depressed.
“Sirius, have you seen James,” panted Remus from the portrait hole.
“No! Remus, where is he? You were on watch duty!!” I yelled panicked. All of us Marauders have been taking turns watching James; making sure he didn’t do something stupid.
“I KNOW I WAS! NOW JUST GIVE ME THE MAP SO WE CAN FIND HIM AND GET LILY!” Remus yelled. I shoved the map at him then ran to the library to get Lily.
I burst through the library doors startling everyone. “LILY!” I shouted she looked up shocked. “WE NEED YOU NOW!!!!! IT’S JAMES! HE’S IN TROUBLE!”
We ran like mad to where Remus had said he was on our two-way mirrors, the astronomy tower. When we arrived we saw James standing on the edge while Remus tried to talk him down.
“Lily, please talk to him. He’ll only listen to you,” I stated.
“I’ll try,” she said before walking up to James. “James, please come down.”
“Why should I?” He asked hotly. “It’s not like you care.”
“B-because people would miss you,”
“I thought I only offered the world cruelty!”
“I didn’t mean that and I’m sorry for saying it,”
“Why say something you don’t mean?”
“Because I was scared,”
“Scared of what?”
“Of liking you, maybe even loving you. I was scared that if I said yes you would just use me. I was scared that if I gave an inch you would take a mile. I was scared that I could go from hating you with every fiber of my being to loving you with every fiber of my being. So I’m giving up the fight to fight my feelings for you. I’m-“ she was cut off there by James lips. They kissed passionately for a while. When they came up for air Remus and I wolf whistled.
From that day on James Potter and Lily Evans were inseparable. You would never see one without the other. James never again thought of harming himself, and Lily never again said anything she didn’t mean. They were in love and everyone knew it and everyone knew they would get married one day and have a family. But no one foresaw the dark cloud looming in their future. No one knew that they would one day bring the savior of the wizarding world into the world. But they all knew a love like theirs would never die.
