JAMES POTTER

The boys started to show me around the castle, but it was pretty empty because it was getting pretty late. I hadn’t realized the time before I left, but now it was close to 10:00. The castle was absolutely amazing, and the boys were hilarious. They talked non-stop, but I didn’t really mind since most of what they were saying was jokes.  I learned that they were all in seventh year, all of them except for Dylan was on the Quidditch team, James was the captain of Gryffindor quidditch team,  and they called themselves the Marauders based on James’ namesake’s group of prankster friends. They all loved to pull pranks too, making me positive we would be good friends.  I also learned James had a huge family, and a ton of his cousins went to the school.

“So, Skyler,” James started, “do you want to go to one of our favorite secret hangouts.

“Sure! Sounds great to me, is there any food there? I’m starting to get really hungry,” I responded just as my stomach starting growling. They looked at each other and started to laugh.

“Hey! What’s so funny?” I asked amusedly.

“Skyler, there is more food in there than you will ever need! Here we are.” We stopped in front of a picture of fruit.

“Um…no offense, but one, if this is a secret hangout, that’s pretty pathetic. And two, unless you expect me to each a picture of fruit, there isn’t any food here.”

Once again, the boys start laughing.

“Tickle the pear.” Matt says.

“Um…what?”

“Watch.” Matt reached out and tickled the pear with his finger. A handle appeared and he pulled it, opening a passage to the kitchens.

“Okay, I take that back. I love your guys’ hangout!” I said laughing as I stepped in. I was immediately attacked by house elves holding out food for me. I took a couple of the platters and sat down at one of tables. Each of the boys copied me, each taking four platters from the house elves, and then sat at the table with me. We sat in comfortable silence for a minute while we were eating, which is the longest any of them had been quite the entire evening, but then James turned to me.

“So, Skyler, what made you transfer to Hogwarts during your sixth year?” James asked me.

I fingered the necklace Michael had given me before I left before responding.

“I changed foster homes. I’ve always been homeschooled at the foster home I’ve been at since I was seven, but when I transferred, Mrs. Clemens thought I should go to Hogwarts. Both the foster homes were magical though, so I was able to learn magic instead of Muggle education.

James nodded sympathetically, as did Fred and Dylan, but Matt just looked confused.

“What’s a foster home?” he asked. Fred smacked him on the backside of the head, but I just roll me eyes and smile sadly at him.

“My parents died when I was seven. Instead of putting me in an orphanage, they sent me to live at a foster home. A foster home is like an orphanage, but it is run by a family who take in children. They don’t adopt you, just give you a place to live. It wasn’t great, in the nine years I was there, probably 35 kids transferred in and out. I was lucky I stayed so long. Most kids my age in that program have transferred homes atleast 10 times. But that was just life.” I said softly. This wasn’t really a total lie for me, but instead of being put in a real foster home when I was seven, the WDB just took Michael and me under their wing. We had rooms there and ate there, and people would always check up on us. It was just like a really big extended family, but still I would have rather had my parents alive and there. I always got somewhat sad when I thought of them, but like I said before, that was just life.

“I’m sorry Skyler.” Matt said. He sensed that I needed a topic change so he asked me if I played quidditch.

I smiled mischievously at him.

“I do, I just don’t know what position to try out for on the team.” I sighed.  He looked at me oddly.

“Wouldn’t you just try out for the position you play?” He asked confusedly.

“But that’s the thing, I play all of them, except for seeker. I never could beat my b-, I mean my friend, so I gave up on that one.” I stopped myself before I said brother because I remembered I wasn’t supposed to have siblings.

“Wow, you must be pretty good.” James said, looked at me with an expression that I couldn’t quite place. “Since we are already a week into term, the tryouts are tomorrow at 9.” He said.

“Great! That’s perfect!  I can’t wait!” I said excitedly.

“Well, we had better be getting off to the common room, it’s getting pretty late. Tomorrow I’ll also introduce you to all my cousins. There’s a lot of them, so it might take a while. I’m related to half the bloody school.” He said smirking to himself.

I laughed and he slung his arm across my shoulder’s leading me to the door.

“Crap! Guys, it is way after curfew. I’m not so sure Skyler’s roommates want to meet her at midnight. Especially Dom, that girl needs her sleep. Hey Skyler, do you want to sleep in our room tonight? It’s just us in there, so you don’t have to worry about waking anyone up.”

I contemplated this for a moment before agreeing. After all, I didn’t want to get on a bad start with my roommates. We headed to the Gryffindor common room and James said the password to the Fat Lady. Or at least that’s what James says everyone calls her. The Gryffindor common room was pretty homey. There was red and gold everywhere, a lot of plush and comfy armchairs and couches, and a roaring fire. James led me up to the boys’ dorm room and gave me some of his boxers and a T-shirt to change into. After everyone was changed they all crawled into their beds. I laid down on the floor with a pillow, but as soon as I closed my eyes, James picked me up and carried me across the room.

“James, what are you doing?” I asked failing at hiding my amusement.

“Well, a pretty lady like you can’t just sleep on the floor! You are going to sleep in my bed with me! That is if you are comfortable with that.” He added quickly. “Otherwise I can sleep on the floor.”

“And people say chivalry is dead.” I laughed. “Don’t worry about it, I’m fine with sharing beds with people.”

“Good!” He responded before tossing me into his bed and jumping right in next to me.

“Thank you, James.” I whispered, “For everything.”

“My pleasure.” James said before kissing my forehead and snuggling me up closer to him.

“Sleep well, you have a quidditch tryout tomorrow.” He said, before we both drifted off to sleep.
