Malfoy scowled over his goblet and he looked across the Great Hall to the Gryffindor table where he saw her. He hated her.

He hated the way she made him feel.

He hated the way they could never be together no matter how much he wanted to because she was a mudblood. A filthy, little, know-it-all mud blood.

She didn’t even realize how much she meant to him. She didn’t realize that every time she answered a question in class, he burned with hatred and desire. He didn’t want to feel this way but he couldn’t help it. He was in love with her and there was nothing he could do about it.

She would never want him.

The son of a Death Eater. Destined to become a Death Eater himself.

He was raised to hate her and anyone of muggle descent.

She felt someone looking at her and met Malfoy’s grey eyes for a split second before he looked down at his plate. When he thought it was safe, he looked at her again. She wasn’t looking at him anymore. No she was talking to that Weasel.

His heart ached. He could have her if he wanted to. They were so perfect for each other. Both disgraces as wizard and witch. The blood traitor and the mudblood. What a perfect couple. They could be happy together.

He couldn’t take seeing her laugh at what ever Weasel was saying. He didn’t care. He just needed to get out of this place so he could think. He got up abruptly and stormed out of the Great Hall and headed outside toward the lake.

He didn’t know how long he’d been sitting there but he suddenly became aware of someone approaching him.

“Oh. I’m sorry I didn’t realize anyone else was here.”

It was her.

Dammit! Didn’t she get that he needed to get away from her so he could convince himself that he didn‘t feel this way for her.

But wait why wasn’t she being rude to him like always.

“It’s fine. I was about to leave anyway.”

He didn’t know what made him say that instead of a mean insult but it just hurt him too much to hurt her when he didn’t have to.

“Don’t leave on my account. I was just simply taking a walk. It’s nice to get away from everything once in a while isn’t it.”

Why did she sound so exhausted? It wasn’t like she had anything to worry about. She didn’t have the problems that he did.

“Yeah.”

He didn’t know why he was keeping up this conversation. He hated her. Well he was supposed to hate her.

“Do you mind if I sit here too? I won’t be a bother. It’s just the lake looks so peaceful right now.”

And so she sat down and we just looked at the lake in silence. He couldn’t believe it! The girl of his dreams sitting right next to him and he couldn’t do a thing about it.

It would never work.

His family would never accept it. Her friends would never accept it.

They were enemies and nothing could change that. He got up and said

“I have to go. Nice sitting with you. Maybe we could do it again sometime?”

And he walked away. Stupid! She probably didn’t realize who you were in the dark. Otherwise she would never have sat with you. A single tear rolled down his cheek.

“I’m sorry that we have to be so different. I’m sorry that I’ll never get my chance with you. I’m sorry that you had to be a mud blood Granger.”

She watching him walk away. She couldn‘t believe that he sat next to her for so long. He must not have known who she was in the dark. A single tear rolled down her cheek.

“I wish things could work out between us. I’m sorry that you had to be a pure blood. I’m sorry that we are so different Malfoy.”

And they both wished for what could have been.
