“You can open your eyes.”
I glanced around the room. If I didn’t know that we were still inside the castle, I would have thought we were outside. Lorcan had brought me to the Room of Requirement, which he had made into an indoor field. The floor was green carpet that looked like grass, and the walls and ceiling were black with stars. It reminded me of the Great Hall. In the center of the room was a pile of blankets, and a picnic basket.
“You eat like a pig.” I muttered, shaking my head at the basket.
Lorcan laughed. “It’s full of booze, love. Just because we left the party doesn’t mean it can’t keep raging.” He lay out one of the blankets before sinking down and patting the spot next to him.
I kicked off my flats before joining him. “You aren’t upset about leaving Blonde Chick behind?”
“Creative name.” He gave me a pointed look. “Are you mad? Eva, I’d rather spend time with you than any other girl.”
I threw myself at Lorcan, giving him a tight hug. He paused before hugging me back reluctantly. “You’re not even drunk.” He muttered.
“I know, you just… You said the perfect thing.” I smiled softly. “Get some alcohol in me so I have an excuse for acting this mad.”
He stared at me suspiciously, but offered me a bottle of rum. “Not a bad hideout, huh?”
“Yeah, yeah, I’m so impressed.” I leaned up against one of his shoulders and his chest as I took a swig from the bottle. “Hope you don’t mind my germs.”
Lorcan snorted. “If I had a problem with your germs, I think I would have run away a long time ago. It’s too late for me. I’ve been infected.”
“Do you bring girls here often?”
He frowned slightly. “I’m sure Lily spends quite a bit of time here.”
About an hour later, we were both tipsy at the very least. It had been a while since I’d talked with Lorcan like this.
“What about that night when you didn’t sleep in your bed?”
Lorcan shot me a wicked grin. “What makes you so sure that I was spending it in someone else’s?”
I shrugged. “I dunno. It makes the most sense. I don’t know what kind of stuff you do in the night so I guess you’re with girls.”
“Says the girl who sneaks over to spend the night in bed with my brother.”
I scowled at the mention of Anders. “But I’m not doing anything with him. We’re not…having fun time.” I gagged. “I’m not with anyone.”
Lorcan leaned in closer, an amused look on his face. “You aren’t, are you?” He flopped back onto the blanket, and I joined him, resting my cheek on his chest. “Fun time? What, you’re not blowing bubbles and coloring pictures in bed together?”
“You know what I mean. We’re not…doing it.”
“Doing what?” He teased, much to my frustration. “You can’t say it, can you? Sex, love. It’s not a difficult word.” His eyes widened. “Bloody hell, you haven’t done it, have you?”
Shit there goes my secret life as a nun. “Of course I have.”
He rolled his eyes. “If you can’t say it, then you’re probably not doing it.” Lorcan was quiet for a moment. “I suppose it makes sense. Can’t imagine boys queuing up for you what with Anders pulling that shit with the tea cup.”
Lorcan really knew how to make a girl feel special. “Lor, please…” He loved to tease, and loved to tease me the most, but this was one thing I didn’t want him to bother me about.
“Well, it’s a right shame. You’re a beautiful girl, Eva.”
Unicorns could have been dancing about us and I wouldn’t have noticed. “Wh-What did you say?” I asked, blinking.
“Fishing for compliments, are you? It’s the truth.” Lorcan brushed back my hair. “I’m a lucky bloke. Suppose I ought to do something about my bed so maybe you’re willing to spend time in it.” He murmured before leaning in closer. I could feel his breath on my cheek, and I knew that my heart was starting to beat fast. We’d been close before, but never like this. Not face to face. Not lying down on the ground in the Room of Requirement.
Lorcan placed his hands on either side of me before rolling himself over so he was on top of me. We were horizontal. His hair was getting shaggy, long enough that the tips of the longer strands were brushing against his eyelashes. Lorcan has the eyelashes of a camel. I’ve always been jealous of his eyelashes. If all girls had the eyelashes of Lorcan Scamander then we wouldn’t need mascara.
While I was busy focusing on my best friend’s eyelashes he had moved in closer and closer yet until his lips were pressed up against mine.
: Well, that probably made more than a few of you angry, since Anders seems to have quite a fan club developing! And the plot thickens! Review Question: Would you rather be friends with Eva or Dominique? Poor Dom hasn't had much time in the limelight yet. Also, congratulations to MarieBlack for being the first reviewer to guess where Lorcan was taking Eva correctly!
