I let out a loud laugh. “Anders? Are we talking about the same Anders here?”

She rolled her eyes. “How have you not noticed it?”

“Lily, you’re hardly an expert on love.”

She huffed, getting to her feet. “You lot never stop with the little comments, do you? Just because I don’t have a boyfriend doesn’t mean I don’t effing know shit about love.”

One of the most eloquent arguments I’ve ever heard. If you didn’t know better, you would have thought Lily came from some cheap part of London. Daughter of the Chosen One, my arse.

“Lily, sit down! That didn’t come out right. You know you’re my best friend.” I pleaded, reaching out for her wrist. “It’s just… Anders doesn’t love anything that isn’t Quidditch.”
She let out an angry sigh but sat back down. “Did you hear about Elliot Damascus?”

I raised an eyebrow. What did this have to do with anything? Elliot was a Hufflepuff in our year who played Keeper, and was one of the more attractive boys that his house had to offer. “No…”

She ran a hand through her dark red hair. “Elliot was talking about you with his mates in Divination the other day.” Lily and the boys had kept up with Divination, saying it was an easy class. I hadn’t been able to stand another two years of the class, and had dropped it after O.W.L.S. “He asked Anders if you were single, and Anders told him to look in his teacup and find out. When Elliot bent over, Anders smacked him on the back on the head. His nose bashed into the teacup, and it went flying across the room.”

“Anders did that?” I asked with wide eyes. I could see Lorcan pulling something like that, but Anders? He was the polite brother.

“You would have gotten laid ages ago if it wasn’t for that boy. He’s like a human chastity belt. I’m right glad he’s your best friend and not mine.” She smirked, letting me know that she had already gotten over the comment I had made earlier.

Would have gotten laid… That wasn’t going to happen anytime soon, Anders or not. “He just cares about me. I’m like his little sister.”

“His little sister he wants to shag.”

Everything was about shagging with her. Honestly! “I have to get going. Got to watch tryouts.” I pulled a scarf out of my bag.

Lily let out a snort. “That’s his, isn’t it?”

I looked down at the item. “Well, yes. He let me borrow it. It’s supposed to be windy today.”

I’ll admit it, I’ve felt like my relationship with Anders has been different from mine with Lorcan for a while. I love to joke around with Lorcan, but Anders is the one I go to when I want a cuddle, or I need a bed to hide out in. It’s because Anders has a wider frame. He makes a better pillow, that’s it.

If Lily was right, I didn’t see any proof of Anders’ feelings in the next couple weeks. He was obsessed with the team and practicing for the first match of the year. His efforts had paid off though, since we had destroyed Hufflepuff. Anders had seemed a little too glad every time he scored on Elliot though. Maybe now that the first match was over with, I would get my Anders back. I put extra effort into my appearance as we all prepped for the celebratory party.

“Eva, you know I love you, but we really need to start working on your legs.” Lily stated, eyeing me from her bed. “You’re ghostly, babes.”

“Hey! I’m wearing a dress with my legs exposed! You should be proud.” I stuck my tongue out at her as I brushed my hair. My hair is my best feature. It’s long and wavy, and I do put a bit of effort into keeping it healthy.

Dominique shot her cousin a look. “And you look amazing.”

Lily wrinkled her nose at Dom. “Not my style of dress, but it suits you.” Lily was wearing a leopard print dress. It had a v-neck, and the straps crossed in the back. If her brothers saw her in it, they would have both passed out. My dress was a bit more tasteful, navy blue with short sleeves and a velvety belt.

“You do look lovely, Eva.” Harriet piped up. I’d almost forgotten that she was there.

“Who asked you, slut?” Lily demanded, causing Harriet to fall silent. “Alright, don’t do anything I wouldn’t do while you’re seducing your boy toy.”

Dom raised an eyebrow. “That doesn’t leave much off-limits. Her boy toy? Are you talking about Lorcan?”

Lily laughed. “Lorcan? Are you mad?”

“You’re both mad.” I insisted, getting to my feet. While Lily and Dom had both put on heels, I was sticking with my ballet flats. Dom was little, so she tended to wear heels as often as possible to give her that extra bit of height. I refused to wear heels, and not so coincidentally was also the girl who kept her shoes on the longest. “I’m going down.”

The common room was already roaring, probably the result of the bottles of alcohol lying around. I glanced around. Anders wasn’t by the makeshift bar, nor was he dancing by the fireplace. His brother was having a bit too much fun dancing with a blonde.

“There you are!” I exclaimed after finally spotting him tucked up in a corner.

Anders lifted his head. “Oh, hey there.”

Hey there? That was it? I was wearing a dress. This was an event. “What are you doing?” He had a notebook in hand.

“Sketching plays.”

I stared at him in disbelief. “You’re joking.”

“We can’t get comfortable just because we won this match. It was the Hufflepuffs. If we slack off now, we’re going to get our arses handed to us by the Slytherins at the end of the year.” He mumbled, tapping his quill against his notebook.

Lily was an idiot. Anders didn’t have feelings for me. He was just nice because we were friends. That was all there was to it.

“Can I get you something to drink at least?” I offered, hoping to catch his attention still.

Anders ran a hand through his hair. “Nah, I’m fine.”

“Well… I’m going to go then.”

“Have fun.” He mumbled, squinting at his drawing.

“Congratulations by the way. You were great.”

“Thanks, Evs.” I stormed off towards the party.

Arse. Damn bloody effing arse.

I felt a hand on my shoulder. “Eva, you look like you’re about to become a murderer. A very well dressed murderer.”

I turned to see Lorcan grinning at me. “Thanks.”

“Went to go see the hermit of Hogwarts, did you?” He twirled me around. “Now, I find it a shame that a girl who looks as nice as you hasn’t had a drink or a dance yet. Allow me to remedy those both.”

“Do you practice being this charming in the mirror?” I demanded with a laugh as he pulled me towards the bar.

“It comes naturally, love.” He stated before offering me a shot. “You’re cheering up though, aren’t you?”

“I am.” I promised before gulping down the shot, shuddering as it stung my throat. “And that dance?”

Lorcan placed a hand on my waist before tugging me closer to him. “So impatient.” He rested his other hand on my shoulder blade. “Oh look! Lily is already snogging someone.”

I didn’t even bother to look. Been there, seen that. “She’s going to get smashed tonight.”

He rested his chin on my shoulder. “And you’re going to need a hidey hole?”

I giggled at his words. “What, am I some sort of rodent now?”

“Please, you hunker down for a rest like a hamster. All nestled up against whatever poor sap you sneak into the bed of.”

That poor sap was always Anders, but his bed wasn’t an option for me tonight. He hadn’t even been polite enough to talk to me earlier. “Poor sap? You mean lucky. You could be that guy if your bed didn’t smell so off.”

He pulled away slightly, laughing. “You think my bed smells?”

“I know it smells. Chips and ham, you psycho.”

Lorcan gave me another twirl. “Alright, then my bed isn’t an option. We’ll find you another hidey hole.” Bless you, Lorcan Scamander, for not mentioning your brother and his bed. “I think I’ve got just the place, but we’re going to have to get there soon before someone uses it for a shag.”

I wrinkled my nose. “I don’t want to sleep in a place like that.”

He smirked at me. “You won’t catch a disease, I promise. Shall we get out of here?”

I glanced around. Lily was still occupied with eating some poor boy’s face. Dom was arguing with her Hufflepuff boyfriend by the stairs. Poor Dom. She needed a good relationship. They were the only people who might notice I was missing, although neither one of them seemed too concerned with me at the moment.

“Lead the way.” I offered Lorcan one of my hands.
