“What have I missed?”
I slowly opened my eyes at the sound of Lorcan’s voice. He was staring at me, an amused look on his face. Right. I fell asleep with his brother’s arms around me. I now noticed that Anders was dressed only in boxers.
“Lily.” I said simply, nudging Anders awake. He grunted at me.
“That’s my boy.” Lorcan teased.
Anders glared at his brother. “And where were you last night? I notice your bed doesn’t look even remotely like you slept in it last night.”
Lorcan crossed his arms, grinning the whole time. “How do you know I didn’t make my bed already?”
“You’ve never made a bed before in your life.”
He snickered. “You know me too well. If you don’t ask me where I was, I won’t tell anyone that an hour ago you had your hand on Eva’s chest.” Lorcan raised an eyebrow.
His brother pulled away from me quickly. “I didn’t.”
“You did, man. You had a rather large smile on your face at the time, too.”
“I was asleep! You’re one to talk. Remember when Eva tried to sleep with you? At least I didn’t knock her out of the bed.”
I got out of the bed, embarrassed by their conversation. Hopefully none of the other guys in the room heard the Scamanders talking about sleeping with me, even if it wasn’t in that sense.
Lorcan cleared his throat. “Eva, love, you might want to consider finding yourself some pants.”
I looked down at my attire. My shirt didn’t exactly cover the bottom of my underwear. That was a problem. “Right. Erm…”
“Your legs are pale.” Anders pointed out. I picked up his pillow and smacked him with it.
“Shut it.” How was I supposed to remedy my pants problem? I couldn’t go down into the common room without them, and I certainly couldn’t wear anything belonging to the boys or I would get drawn and quartered by the girls at school.
Lorcan rolled his eyes. “I’ll go get you some pants, alright? You know, you could have borrowed some of ours. We have legs too.”
“Your fan club would kill me.” Godric, it was cold. I climbed back into bed with Anders.
“Consider this me saving your life. You owe me.” Lorcan flicked me on the arm as he left the room.
“Where do you think he was last night?” I asked after rolling over to face Anders.
He shrugged. “Frolicking in the Forbidden Forest with some unicorns? Do I ever know what Lorcan gets himself into?” Anders kissed my forehead. “I think we’re getting too big for this.”
“Lily has no problem fitting two people into her bed.” I muttered. “You know she’s only going to do this more now that she’s older.”
He sighed heavily. “Well, you call her a right little slut and maybe she’ll take her conquests somewhere else.”
I snorted. “Has Lily ever listened to me when it comes to her and boys?”
I smirked. “Don’t try and get involved in things you can’t understand, Anders.”
“I hate your bloody cat.” Lorcan declared, glaring at Selina who was standing quite comfortably on his chest, staring back at him.
“You got me my bloody cat.” I reminded him, glancing at the staircase to the boys’ dorm. We were waiting for Anders to come down for lunch. It was the first Saturday already, and Quidditch tryouts were going on after lunch. I wasn’t trying out, of course, but I’d promised to be there to watch and support Anders.
And yes, my cat is named after the original Cat Woman. I’m serious about that whole comic business.
“I did, didn’t I?” He said a little proudly before hissing at Selina. She tilted her head slightly in confusion before curling up on his chest. “Wanted to get you an owl, but my bloody brother said you don’t send enough bloody mail so we got you the bloody cat.”
I snickered. “You know you love the bloody cat.”
He glanced at me lazily while scratching the bloody cat’s chin. “I do not. When you leave the room I try and get her.”
“You love the cat.” Anders added, standing behind the couch. “Shall we go?” He was a bit pale in the face, and it was clear that he was nervous about the decisions he was going to have to make.
I nodded. “Lily is there already waiting for us.”
Lorcan stood suddenly, causing Selina to fall to the floor in a lame attempt to show us that he did not love my cat. “Why can’t you write more mail?”
I gave him a pointed look as we started out of the common room. “Who would I write to? I see you two idiots every day. Same with Lily and Dom. In the summer I escape to your houses as much as I can. The school owls are all I need to send mail home.” Which wasn’t often. “Or I can steal your owl.”
“Feel free to steal the owl. He has a stupid name.” Lorcan muttered, shaking his head. Their parents had been the ones to name the family owl, which should be explanation enough. These were the same people who named their children Lysander and Lorcan. The poor owl got stuck with the name Strigiformes, which is some sort of scientific name for owls. This is what happens when you let a pair of naturalists name an animal.
“And what would you have named him?”
Anders laughed at that. “Did I ever tell you about the owl we had when we were young?”
I shook my head, getting excited when I saw the horrified look on Lorcan’s face. This was going to be a good story.
“We found him one day when we were out playing. He had an injured wing so of course Mum took him in and nursed him. Lor was the one to find him so he got to name the owl. You remember, don’t you?”
Lorcan was busy swearing under his breath at his brother.
“He named him Beaky. Beaky the owl.”
I let out a howl of laughter. “Beaky? Well, aren’t you just the most creative bloke!”
“Just remember, I know where you sleep at night.” Lorcan muttered as he gave Anders a light shove.
“I’d say the same for you, but you never seem to actually be in your bed.” Anders crossed his arms.
I rested a hand on his shoulder. “I’ll hide out in your bed all the time, shall I? He wouldn’t dare to do anything to me.”
I quickly regretted saying that. Lorcan lifted me off the ground in one swoop, and chucked me over his shoulder before charging down the hall whooping.
Lily looked up at us, an amused look on her face.
“You’re doing your nails?” I yelped, as she resumed filing. “That’s disgusting. There’s food around!”
She shrugged. “It’s not getting in my food, and if it is, it’s only in my food. I have to keep my looks up, darling.” She teased.
“Yes, or we’ll miss out on those lovely nighttime visits from a scandalized Eva.” Lorcan announced as he loaded up his plate. I gave him a swift kick under the table.
“What was that?” Lily asked.
Lorcan winked at me. “Nothing, my fair Lily. Absolutely nothing.”
She undoubtedly had heard what Lorcan had said, but she didn’t let it bother her. I love Lily, but I have no idea how she’s so damn confident about her…romantic behavior.
Although… I’m a bit of an embarrassment, really. I’ve had two boys for my best friends since I was 11, but when it comes to relationships I’m hopeless. I’m completely comfortable with the Scamanders, but I have no idea how to flirt or anything along those lines. It doesn’t help that most of the boys at school think I’m snogging at least one of the brothers. I’m considered off the market, even though that isn’t the case at all.
I’ve got a little secret. I’m almost 17, and I’ve never been kissed.
“I don’t know if I can eat.” Anders said softly, staring blankly at his plate.
“Of course you can.” I sighed heavily before reaching out and grabbing two slices of bread. “You have to eat something, Captain. I’ll make you a sandwich, alright?”
Lorcan snickered, his mouth full. He’s rather disgusting at mealtimes. “Aw, Mummy is taking care of little Anders.”
“No, dearest brother, I’m pretty sure we are Dad’s kids, and that Mum and Dad were married before they had us. Unfortunately, I’m also sure we are twins. If I’m a bastard then you’re a bastard.” Lorcan said proudly, impressed by his own logic.
“I don’t know how you do it.” Dom stated, glancing from one brother to the other.
“You’re a saint, Eva.”
I laughed as I slapped ham and cheese down onto Anders’ sandwich. “Did you two hear that? I’m a saint. You ought to be nicer to me. Particularly you, Lor.”
He placed a hand to his chest, looking offended. “What makes you think I wouldn’t treat a saint like this? Pompous little buggers.”
“Have fun in hell.” Lily examined her nails with a contented look before putting away her nail file.
“I’ll have you there with me, Red.”
She scowled at him. “What makes you think I’m going to end up there?”
Lorcan arched a brow in challenge. “Most of the boys in our year. At least four of the seventh years. You got to a few of last year’s graduates too, didn’t you?”
She pursed her lips. “A lady never tells.”
“I think you handed over your lady card a good half dozen shags ago.”
“Eat.” I passed Anders his sandwich. “It’s your favourite.”
He slowly lifted the sandwich to his mouth and took a bite before nodding.
“You need to eat so you can be brilliant out there.” I gave him a pat on the knee before starting to fill my own plate.
After he finished, Anders let out a heavy sigh. “Thanks for that, Eva. I don’t know what I’d do without you. Well, I’m off then.” He gave me a wide smiled before giving me a pat on the shoulder and getting to his feet.
“I ate lunch with my darling brother, but you’re not going to be able to get me to watch a bunch of eejits flop about on brooms.” Lorcan got to his feet. “Laugh at a couple for me, won’t you?” He asked before sauntering off.
Lily turned to look at me. “You know Anders is in love with you, right?”
