“Did you get enough yams, Eva?” Lorcan asked, holding out the dish to me.
Remember that thing I said about him having a heart of gold? Lorcan is amazing when it comes to feeding me. He always remembers my favourites, and makes sure I get loaded up on them. I can eat quite a bit.
“Yes, darling.” I patted him on the arm. “Thanks.”
“It’s sad, isn’t it?” We turned to look at Lily.
“What is?” Anders asked before stuffing practically half a chicken in his mouth.
Lily gestured down the table. “Harriet is sitting with a bunch of fourth years.”
Harriet Smythe is our fourth roommate, who we happen to have a grudge against. Two years ago she was the girl that one of Dominique’s boyfriends cheated on her with. That’s not exactly a rare occurrence with Dom, but to have one of our own do that? Unspeakable. We’ve shut Harriet out ever since.
“You lot still hate her?” Lorcan asked, rolling his eyes.
I stuck my tongue out at him. “Hey, Dom is your friend too! She’s practically your cousin.” The Scamander twins had been raised alongside Lily and her brothers since Mr. and Mrs. Scamander were off exploring the world most of the time. Maybe that was why the boys had turned out so normal compared to their mum. Rolf Scamander wasn’t that mad. Maybe a 6 or 7 out of 10.
“Remind me to never piss you off.” He muttered into his potatoes.
“You manage to piss me off nearly every day, Lor.” I reminded him.
He arched an eyebrow. “Oh yeah? Feeling brave now, are you?” Lorcan rested a hand on my lower back and pulled me closer. I felt at least five different pairs of eyes around the Great Hall all glaring at me. Damn whatever spell the Scamanders held over the women of Hogwarts.
“Stop it!” I whined, squirming. I didn’t have a death wish. “Why do you enjoy doing that to me so often?”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” He whispered, his lips brushing against my ear as he twirled a strand of my hair around his index finger.
Anders kicked his brother under the table, I’m guessing, since Lorcan jumped. “Oi, leave Eva alone. You’re such a sleaze.”
Lorcan smirked. “Excuse me? I believe our dear Lily here is the sleaze amongst us.”
Having heard her name, Lily looked away from Dominique. “What did you say, Scamander?”
“I called you a sleaze, love.” He announced proudly.
“Oh, is that all?” Lily resumed her conversation with Dominique.
“How does that not bother you?” Dominique demanded. Even I wondered how Lily was fine with hearing someone call her something like that, and I say a lot of things about people.
She shrugged. “It’s the truth.”
Lorcan let out a loud laugh. “Listen to her, our proud little whore.”
I haven’t done a very good job of introducing myself, have I? My name is Evangeline Claire Winters. Generally Eva, sometimes Evs, rarely Angie, but never Evie. The only person who calls me Evie that doesn’t have a death wish is my mum. I’m in Gryffindor, but my mum and brother were both Ravenclaws. Dad is a straight-up Muggle, and the favorite member of my family. His name is Daniel, and Mum’s is Cho.
This makes me half-Chinese, and damn proud of it. Don’t get me started on being half-Asian unless you have plenty of time to waste. I have theories, you see. There are about 5 different camps that you can sort all kids who are half-Asian into. Two for boys, two for girls, and one for both. The unisex one is those hairy kids. You know, the ones with the hairy foreheads. The boys are generally paler, although there are always exceptions. The first guy look is when he has dark hair, and green eyes. The second is when the guy looks slightly more Asian, and has dark eyes. My brother is this type. For the girls, there are the tan ones, and the pale ones. Both are generally prone to having lots of freckles, or moles. Are they moles if they’re dark and on your arms and shit? I prefer to think of them as freckles. Anyways, half-Asian girls are prone to being gingers. Not straight up Weasley ginger, but a more coppery colour. Red-brown, you know?
People say I’m not one to talk, since I’m one of the exceptions. I have black hair and green eyes. I did say there were exceptions! Just because I’m an exception doesn’t mean it’s not true. I’ve seen plenty of proof to know that my theory is correct.
My parents have met Rolf and Luna, but meeting Lily’s parents has never been an option. Mum went out with Lily’s dad once when they were our age, and clearly things didn’t work out in their favor.
I’m trying to get myself back to sleep. I generally go to bed early because if I can’t fall asleep when I want to I turn into a crabby bitch. Anyways, I woke up again slightly after midnight because of some…noises come from Lily’s bed. Noises that are too loud for me to sleep through. I’d tell her to cast a Silencing charm, but I really don’t want to interact with Lily and her mystery man right now. How did she even get him up here?
He must be a sloppy snogger. I can hear slurping sounds all the way across the room.
Lorcan was right, Lily is our proud little whore. This isn’t the first time I’ve had this experience.
I silently slipped out of my bed, and crawled on all fours out of our room. This really isn’t something I want to be an expert on, but I’ve done this a couple times before. Once I was out of the bedroom I hurried down the stairs before crossing over to the boys’ staircase. The first time I tried sleeping on one of the couches in the common room. Not a good idea. I sleep in an oversized shirt most nights, with no sleep shorts or pants on. That time I slept on the couch I woke up to a pair of first years daring each other to poke my panties. Not something I’d like to repeat.
“Scoot over.” I mumbled, nudging at Anders’ sleeping form. He slowly stirred awake.
“Again? It’s only the first night.” He groaned. “Where’s Lor?” His bed was empty, and I hadn’t seen him downstairs.
I shrugged. “Off doing Godric knows what.”
Anders ran a hand down his face. “Why don’t you sleep in his bed?”
I snorted. “Can you imagine what he’ll say when he comes back and finds me in his bed? You always let me bunk with you.” I pointed out. I tried it with Lorcan once, but he rolls around way too much in his sleep. I woke up at some ungodly hour lying on the floor, while Lorcan was bundled up snug and warm with all the blankets.
He scooted over to make room for me. “Fine.” Anders pulled back the blankets, and I slid in happily. “I need my beauty rest.”
“Everyone thinks you’re beautiful already.” I snuggled up against his chest before closing my eyes.
“Don’t want this to be the high point in my life.” He mumbled, slipping his arms around my waist. “Go to sleep, Evs.”
That’s another thing. Anders’ bed smells like him, a combination of orange and cinnamon. For some inexplicable reason, Lorcan’s bed smells like chips and ham. I could ask why, but I’m afraid of the answer, so I’ll stick with Anders.
What would I do without my boys?
