There I was again tonight
Forcing laughter, faking smiles
Same old tired, lonely place

I was here again, another pointless party in my parents agenda. The pointless waving, laughing at tasteless jokes and pretending to be happy when I was compared to my mother, I hated being here. I would much rather be on my broom, flying around the country side, enjoying being a free spirited sixteen year old.

But my joyous plans for the short Christmas holidays were to be anywhere but. With mother looking for a promotion, I would have to come to all the parties now, every damn day of the week long holiday. My parents were talking to the aging Minister Kingsley, who had been in power long before I was born.

I have no help in surviving through the parties from my cousins, as they were here as well, due to the fact that they won’t talk to me. All because I said Slytherin wasn’t all bad. To them it was like me saying that Nana Molly was a death eater.

They all over reacted, half of them were considered for the green house anyway. I feel lonely and abandoned looking around the brightly coloured room filled to the brim with people only here to see the golden trio.

Walls of insincerity
Shifting eyes and vacancy

I could feel all their eyes on me, drilling into the back of my head, almost to sneer at the Gryffindor traitor. I turned to look at who it was. Of course James would be in the middle of this. Stupid quaffle head. I’d be right in saying that his brain resembled a snitch. it would undoubtedly be the size of a walnut, hollow and completely pointless unless otherwise engaged in a quidditch match.

I looked to see who was with the star flier. My eyes met with Albus, Dominique, Roxanne, Fred, Lucy and Louis, all of whom join James on the quidditch team and now to join in glaring at the only person who needed them most. I needed my boyfriend here more than ever, but he was spending the holidays with his family in Canada.

Before I stated the remark, Dom was my best friend and favourite cousin. We shared everything and spared nothing when it came to helping each other. Dom caught my eye and sent me another apologising look. I smiled weakly and looked up to show that I understood her. The only reason she wasn't talking was because James threatened to kick anyone in the team out if they talked to me or acknowledge that I was there.

I knew what they were trying to do. They were trying to make me feel guilty so I would run back to they and they would proceed to put me down until they thought I had redeemed myself.
They did it to everyone.

I waved and took a step towards them to make James feel like he won. This brought a smile to his face, it was his winning smile, the one rarely seen anywhere other than the pitch. He thought he won. I spun on my heel and proceeded to walk to the other end of the giant ballroom.

I looked over my shoulder and shot daggers at my clustered cousins the smile dissipating from James' face. I took a position at the end of the room, leaning against the wall as I admired the splendour of the highly decorated hall.

Now it seemed that every student that was at the ball that attended Hogwarts was shooting daggers and sneering in my direction. I had no doubt that the Gryffindor quidditch star had something to do with the way they were acting, the feeling of loneliness once again shot through me.

Vanished when I saw your face
All I can say, is that it was enchanting to meet you

I looked around the room in hope of a friendly face. My eyes met with a strangers on the other side of the room. They were soft and, for some reason, forgiving. They seemed so familiar. He smiled and I looked away blushing.

My mother found me and dragged me to talk to another old member of the wizegmont or an original member of Dumbledore’s Army. I half listened to the many ordeals of old Hogwarts students and the many ‘back in my day’ stories. I continued to search for the boy with the smile, but to no avail.

The ball ended soon after and I was bundled into the car and away from the familiar stranger. It would be enchanting to meet the boy with the friendly eyes and to see how my cousins react when they find out that they didn’t rule the whole of the Hogwarts student body.
When we got home I walked to my room and flopped down on my bed. I then looked at my glowing clock radio. 3:30 it read. Hopefully he would be at the party planned tomorrow night (well technically tonight) at the Malfoy Manor.

Father was a bit disgruntled about accepting the invite, but as Mr Malfoy was a major influence in the final decision for mothers job we had to accept. I crossed my fingers and rolled over and closed my eyes. Hopefully he would come.

You're eyes whispered 'have we met?'
Crossed the room, your silhouette
Starts to make its way to me
The playful conversation starts
Counter all your quick remarks
Like passing notes in secrecy
And it was enchanting to meet you
All I can say was I was enchanted to meet you

Another day, another party. I was dressed in a pale blue chiffon that brought out my eyes and the reddish tinge in my straight mousey brown hair. I looked around the room when the formal proceedings were over. my eyes met with the unfamiliar boy.
His eyes caught mine and he mouthed "have we met?" I shook my head. I excused myself and started my make my way across the room. James stood in my path.

"Are you finished being the miss independent Slytherin lover, you traitor?"

I smiled and stated "have you finished being a quaffle headed jerk? Your father fought for peace and now his own son is promoting what he fought and what other died for? Look around cousin and tell me are you ready?" I pushed past him, and returned to the familiar spot on the wall. The Boy emerged from a room behind me and he took up the same position as me on the wall next to me.

“Are you sure I haven’t met you before?”

I smiled “No I’m sure, I’m Rose, Rose Weasley” he smiled at my name.
“Ha” he stated “I do know you, you’re in my potions class” that only meant one thing, he was a Slytherin.

This night was getting better and better. “I thought you looked familiar, but I couldn’t remember from where."

I said with my head turning towards the loud sneering coming from James. I was ashamed that I would have to drag the Slytherin into this. Then it hit me I didn't know his name.

"I'm sorry I didn't ask you name, I feel so silly" I admitted to the blonde.

"I'm Scorpius Malfoy” I blushed not at no remembering him, he was the most notorious Slytherin without trying. Scorpius was one of those people whose family were socially exiled after the war, but his father was too ambitious to let himself disappear into the history books. Instead Mr Malfoy thrust himself into the spotlight by marrying the famous wizarding actress and fashion designer Astoria Greengrass. Scorpius grew up in the spotlight, so I could blame him for keeping a low profile at school.

“Rose?” Scorpius Said regaining my attention.

“Sorry” I said shaking my head and pushing my hair back

“What were you saying?” I looked again into his silver-blue eyes, my stomach tightened for no reason leaving me more or less breathless.

“I was wondering if you would like to go outside? It’s getting rather hot in here, you must be cooking” his eyes glimpsed down at my dress. He was right, my floor length dress was making me rather hot. I nodded I took a few steps forward before Scorp grabbed my arm and pulled my back.

“The real garden is this way” he said opening the door my rescuer used minutes earlier.

* * * * *

Scorpius took me through a series of passages that lead to a private garden at the rear of the house. Much to my amusement, it was a rose garden. The scent overwhelmed me along with the many colours that were before my eyes. multiple shades of reds, pinks, yellows and purples. I pulled the closest red rose and took in its brilliant, vibrant smell.

“Do you like it?”Scorpius asked almost to seek my approval.
I smiled and answered “I never knew that you could have a garden with such….”

“Yes?” Scorpius nudged me on eager for me to finish the sentence.

“it’s so…. Overpowering and beautiful.” Scorpius smiled approvingly and blushed. His hair quickly turned a faint pink colour, before settling back down to the white blond it was before.

“Holy snitches!! Are you a metamorphagus?” I all but screamed.

He blanched, and when he did his whole head followed suit.

“Shh, please don’t tell anyone. It’s the only way I can get some privacy at school and when I go out. That’s why you didn’t recognise me at first. Outside of Hogwarts I’m Scorpius Malfoy, blonde, famous and surrounded by family ghosts. At Hogwarts I use my middle and my mother’s maiden name so no one will bug me”

I nodded I response
“So, hypothetically if I was looking for you at school I should ask around for..??” The loud bell that belongs to the small church a few blocks away peeled welcoming in the day most of the students at Hogwarts were not looking forward to. "

Happy new year Rose" Scorpius said handing me a small white rose.
"Thanks Scorp, Happy new year" I was unsure of what should happened next.

"I should get back" I said pointing to the secret door we had come through. I reached for the handle and stepped through.

"Are you coming?"I asked. Scorp shock his head.

"Well goodnight Scorpius, happy new year "I said releasing the door to close behind me. then I remembered.

"hey Scorp?"I asked once again pushing the door to catch my new friend "your Hogwarts name? what is it?"

"don't worry about it, I’ll owl you later if you want" Scorp said looking up at the sky.

I smiled and went to do something I was taught never to do in my life. I walked up to him, grabbed his collar and kissed him. Never had I felt anything like it, not with my boyfriend Brandon or anyone. I released his collar and stepped back.

I turned on my heel "owl me" I shouted over my shoulder, leaving him chuckling in unbelief.

I found my way out of the tunnel and back to the ballroom. My head was still reeling from the kiss, and I felt that I was still red in the face.
Mother quickly found me and began steering me towards the way out. the ball had ended ceremoniously when the fireworks ended, and that was over five minutes ago. The ballroom was now almost completely drained of the people that were not a few minutes ago.

The Malfoy family was at the door bidding everyone a goodnight. I was amazed that Scorp was there with his heavily pregnant mother.
Astoria was due in a few weeks. I was just surprised at how she was still awake, she must have been drained after the few days of parties, it was astounding that she had lasted the week.

Mother shook hands with all the Malfoy’s with the exception of Astoria, whom she gave a quick hug. I then followed suit and shook Mr Malfoy’s hand and gave Astoria a simple hug.

I held my hand out for Scorp to shake. he took it, sending a small electric zap through our hands. I could tell he felt it as his hair proceeded to turn the pale red once again. I felt my face turn red in return. We said our final goodbyes and left for the car.

Mother insisted that we were as muggle as possible when it wasn't necessary for us to use magic. Dad was still trying to get used to the fact that we weren’t able to summon things in the backyard or why he couldn't apparate outside or anywhere near the house.

I didn't mind though, I had a lot of parchment left over from school and my own personal stash of Floo powder that uncle George gave me for my birthday a few years ago.

I opened the door and slipped into the car.

"About Bloody time Rose, what took you so long?"Dad Asked pulling the old ford into gear. I was luck it was so dark, as I felt my cheeks warm again.

"I was in the bathroom" I said stifling a yawn and placing my hand on my face to try to calm the redness. I closed my eyes and rested my head on the pillow I had wedged between myself and the door. I was always prepared for anything.

Except it seemed, for the friendship that had awakened between Scorpius and I.
