Surprisingly, Rowena showed up first and was led to the parlor by Smeagol. Godric rose when she entered. “Rowena! How are you?”
“Sit down. I’m completely fine,” she grumbled as she sat down. He smiled and poured a cup of tea for her.
“Thank you,” she muttered.
“I didn’t hesr you!” Godric said with a twinkle in his eyes.
“I said ‘thank you!’ Happy?” Rowena snapped loudly.
Godric chuckled and stared at her intently. Rowena fidgeted under his gaze and asked, “When are Helga and Salazar arriving?”
“Soon,” he answered.
To no one’s surprise Smeagol brought in Helga who was beaming happily. “Oh, dears! How are you?”
“Quite fine, thank you,” Godric said politely.
“Bloody brilliant,” Rowena said.
“Language,” Helga scolded.
When Helga looked away, Rowena rolled her eyes and muttered darkly to herself. Helga poured herself a cup of tea and sat down next to Rowena.
Salazar then entered the room, nodded curtly at everyone, and sat down. “Salazar dear. How are you?” Helga inquired.
“Quite fine,” he said, “And you?”
“Oh, brilliant, dear, just brilliant!” Helga beamed.
“Why have you summoned us here, Godric?” Salazar asked suspiciously.
“Why, job interviews of course!” Godric answered, “We’re going to teach Defense Against the Dark Arts, Potions, Arithmancy, and Charms. Rajih is teaching about Magical Creatures. Who’s going to teach Astronomy, Divination, Herbology, and about muggles?”
“And why are we teaching about muggles?” Salazar said snidely.
Godric ignored him and continued talking, “I’ve invited the finest Astronomists to come over tonight. Tomorrow will be Divination. In two days, Herbology, and in three days Muggles.”
“Excellent,” said Rowena.
Godric clapped his hands together and exclaimed, “Perfect! Our first applicant will be Ruby K. Noella. She’s from Lewes and has been an astronomer for nearly a decade.”
“Very well, send her in,” commanded Rowena.
Godric nodded and snapped his fingers. Smeagol appeared with a pop and said silkily, “Yes, my master?”
“Send in Ms. Noella, please,” Godric ordered.
Smeagol disappeared with another pop. Helga sniffed, “I cannot stand house-elves! Nasty little blighters, they are! We shuld have them in the kitchens at Hogwarts!”
Rowena eyed Helga warily and said, “Helga, dear, there’s no need to be so unpleasant!”
Helga shot a glare at Rowena as Ruby K. Noella entered the room. “Hello, Ms. Noella. Are you well?” Helga greeted.
“Quite, thank you,” she said.
Salazar smiled kindly and said, “Please, sit down!”
Ms. Noella sat down and perched on a chair. She asked, “So, you’re starting a school for magic?”
“Yes, we are,” answered Godric, “And we are considering you to teach Astronomy.”
“That I know,” said Ms. Noella, “So how are you going to interview me?”
“We are going to ask you a series of questions,” Rowena answered.
Ms. Noella nodded and Godric asked, “What inspired you to be an astronomer?”
“When I was a child, we had to move around a lot. Whenever we relocated we would follow the stars. They are very fascinating.”
Helga cleared her throat. “Who is your hero?”
“Walcher of Malvern. He’s a fabulous astronomer, especially for a muggle. He knows more about the heavens than I do probably!”
Salazar growled and asked, “What is your opinion on muggles?”
Ms. Noella thought for a little bit and answered slowly, “I think that they need to be more accepting. We – wizards – are definitely superior, though.”
Rowena looked thoughtfully at Ms. Noella before asking, “Do you have family?”
“None that I am close to,” she answered.
Godric smiled encouragingly and asked another question. “Do you like teaching?”
“Oh yes!” she exclaimed, “At the Observatory, one of my favorite things to do was to take an apprentice.”
“Your view on house-elves?” inquired Helga.
“They are lovely creatures! Sometimes I just want to hug one alike a toy and keep one as a pet.”
“Oookay,” Salazar said before asking about what she thought of the name of the school.
“It’s such a quaint name! And creative! I love it!” she gushed.
“What will you do if you don’t get this job?” Rowena questioned.
“Well, I suppose I’ll just go back to the Observatory! They said I’d always have a place there.”
Salazar nodded and said, “Thank you Ms. Noella. We’ll get back to you soon!”
Ms. Noella nodded at them before leaving the room. Immediately Godric and Rowena said, “I like her.”
Rowena looked suspiciously at Godric before addressing everyone else. “She seemed to genuinely enjoy astronomy.”
Salazar nodded and looked at Helga. She fidgeted under his gaze and said, “Okay, she was fine! But we can’t make any decisions yet! We still have another five people.”

“Now let’s make a decision!” Helga beamed happily.
Godric snapped, “Not Kian Ward! I still think he felt you up.”
Rowena rolled her eyes. “Besides the fact that he ‘felt me up,’ I think he was an excellent candidate.”
“Did you here Jasper Rigby’s muggle-baiting stories? He’s a talented man!” Salazar said excitedly.
“Yes, let’s have a murderer teach these kids,” Helga said dryly.
The four of them began arguing intensely until Rowena said loudly, “This is no way to choose!”
Helga nodded, “We need a third party.”
Godric jumped up. “SMEAGOL!”
The house-elf appeared and bowed low to the ground. “Yes, master?”
“We need you to help us!” Rowena beamed happily.
Salazar and Helga looked skeptically at the other two. “Is this a good idea?” sneered Salazar.
“Do you have a better idea?” Godric shot back.
Salazar said nothing and Godric told Smeagol about each of the candidates. Smeagol sat down on the ground and hummed to himself as he thought.
“Please sir, what are their names again?” he asked.
Godric smiled and answered, “Ruby Noella, Vernon Black, Kian Ward, Ottolena Liberty, Jasper Rigby, and Robin Siwan.”
Smeagol shook his head and squeaked, “It’s obvious, sirs and ladies! Jasper Rigby is the one you want!”
Salazar smirked and said, “Thank you Smeagol. You may go, now.”
Godric sighed, “I’ll send a letter tomorrow. Be sure you’re here tomorrow at the same time.”
They all nodded and left the room to go to their beds and sink into a well deserved sleep.
Author’s Note: How many of you were expecting Jasper to get the job? I originally had Ruby getting the job, but I love that name. Jasper Rigby!
