Astoria, Draco, and Daphne
The sky burst orange, pink, and purple as the sun sets for the day behind the lush, green mountain. A girl with golden locks lay on her back on the soft ground surrounded by baby blue cornflowers, as a beautiful, black boy plays with her hair and sets a flower halo on her head. The girl longs for his kiss and he grants her wish my leaning down towards her lips but instead of a soft kiss, he lets out a high-pitch scream, 'Daphne, you lazy slag, wake-up, we are leaving soon!'
I am awoken from my fantastic dream of Blaise by my infuriating little sister, Astoria. I turn over under the sliver silk comforter and look at her smirking face. I glance down and see she has raided my closet again and stole my hot pink robes, she now happens to be wearing over her dark jeans and white tee. She sees me grimacing at them and beams, playing with her plaits. She turns around and prances, like a horse, out of my room as I roll out of bed.
I stumble groggily to my purple bathroom and survey the monstrously that is my face. I pull a face as I take in my drool and sweat plastered hair and sleep encrusted eyes. I sigh and take-off my jim jams and step into the shower. I revel in the feel of the hot water on my body.
I arrive in the kitchen fifteen minutes later, clean and beautiful. I take my seat across from Astoria as Twinkle, our house elf hands me one of her famous blueberry muffins. I smile at her and tell her thanks, as she goes back to cleaning up the mess. I take a bite and try to read the Daily Prophet that my dad is holding up, but look away when all I see is articles about Harry Potter, I am getting tired about hearing about him and Dumbledore, which I bet they are too.
“Nice robes, Daphne,” Astoria laughs her mouth full of muffin.
I give her a fake smile and look down at my opaque robes and reply, “Thank you, Astoria, I was going to wear the hot pink robes that now inhabit your body, but since you borrowed them I had to settle for these.”
She smirks and goes back to attacking her third muffin.
“Well ladies, I am off to work you have fun today shopping,” my dad says standing up and kissing Astoria and my heads.
“Oh...we love spending your hard earned money, daddy,” Astoria says sweetly.
I roll my eyes, as our dad laughs and starts to snog our mum. People over thirty should never snog in front of eating people; it makes them want to be sick.
He says goodbye, walks out into our manicured lawn and I can hear the pop as he disapprates. Five minutes later, mum asks if we are ready to go and we follow her out to the car she borrowed from the Ministry.
She thinks it is beneath her to drive and she was relieved when the car came with autopilot. I believe it is because she is scared of driving. Astoria and I climb into the back and the car takes off to London. I lean back into the leather seat and watch the trees fly by as we make our way to the city.
The Leaky Cauldron is completely deserted and when the bartender spots us coming in he looks hopeful, but when he realizes we are only students here to get into Diagon Alley, his face falls and he goes back to be mournful and to cleaning. I smile at him and follow mum to the back where she taps the bricks and the wall springs to the sides to reveal Diagon Alley.
I gasp at the now dark and empty Diagon Alley. It is not cheerful and full of life like it usually is but dead. I see that many shops are boarded up and the purple ministry fliers cover all the windows. The people even look sad and scared and no one is stopping to talk to each other. As we walk further I notice that there are a lot of little booths selling Dark Magic protectors. The sellers yell “Protect your sons and daughters from dark forces.”
“Mum can we stop at Eeloypes's before Flourish and Blotts, I need some special treats for Franceska!” I yell at my mum's back.
“Ooooo....mum I need some also for Cambridge!” Astoria adds tugging our mum's violet robes making her stop.
“Alright, darlings but hurry,” she smiles giving me two gallons for the treats.
We run in and grab two boxes of Magical Mouse Treats, pay, and head back out to our mum, who just happens to be talking to Narcissa and Draco Malfoy. I hand my mum the change (five knuts) as Narcissa rambles on about how annoying Harry Potter and his friends are. I smile at Draco who looks awfully uncomfortable standing by his mum. He gives us a strained smile and I swear Astoria almost fainted.
“Mum, how about you and Narcissa go catch up at Madame Mint's Tea Shop while Story, Draco, and I get our books,” I say sensing Draco would rather be anywhere but with his mum.
“Great idea, come along Narcissa,” Mum beams handing me the money pouch, which Astoria snatches from my hands.
Narcissa looks worryingly at her son, but follows Mum none the less.
“Thanks Daph, thought I was never going to get rid of her,” Draco says gracing me with a genuine smile.
“Anytime, you looked about to curse her,” I laugh, “should we head to Flourish and Blotts, we look odd talking while no one else is.”
“You go ahead, I have somewhere to go Mum free, see you in a few,” Draco says turning and walking away.
“We can come too!” Astoria yells, depressingly, making me roll my eyes.
“No, this is no task for pretty, little girls, go get my books I would love that,” Draco says, playing with Astoria's affection.
Astoria, being the lovesick teenager, takes the bait and runs into the doors, not caring that I was not following her but Draco.
I try to keep a hundred feet and a person or two behind Draco, so he has little change of noticing me. As we walk farther I see that Draco is heading towards Knockturn Alley. What on earth is there done in Knockturn Alley for a sixteen year old? I start shielding myself behind barrels, now that I am in darkness and there are fewer people down here. As, I move from behind my current barrel, a dirty hand grabs my robes. I turn around and am inches from a smelly, dirty old man with no teeth. I gasp and try to pull away, which only makes his grab tighter.
“What is a pretty, young thing like you doing in a place like this?” he asks, his mouth begging desperately for a breath mint.
“Getting Flesh-Eating Slug repellent,” I reply struggling against his grasp.
“I can help,” he smiles moving closer.
I kick him hard in the shins and run as fast as I can the way I am sure Draco went, without a glance back.
I see his blond head enter a dingy shop with a sign that reads 'Borgin and Burkes' I run up and shimmy between a barrel and the grimy window. I wipe away some of the filth, so I have a good look at the back of Draco's head. I can tell he is arguing and threating the shop owner. The man looks scared when Draco pulls up his sleeve. Why did he do that?
Draco turns around smirking and leaves the shop. I wait a few seconds before following him and tapping him on the shoulder. He turns around looking alarmed but when he realizes it is only me his face contorts in anger.
“What is Merlin's pants are you doing down here, you could get hurt!” He roars dragging me by the arm.
“Why the hell do you care and let go you are hurting me, I have had enough manhandling for one day, thank you!” I yell shaking him off.
“Sorry, why are you down here?” he asks concernedly but still angry.
“I followed you of course; I knew that you must be up to something. Why did you show that man your arm?” I ask, but I now know, “No, you can't be!” I grab his arm before he can pull away and lift up the sleeve and see the Dark mark smiling at me.
“No! Draco you can't be! You cannot be a Death Eater,” I whisper.
He pulls his arm away, “Yes, I can be! He needs me Daphne! Anyways it is none of you bloody business who I support!”
“You could get hurt! He must be using you because of your dad, Draco you need to get out!” I yell pulling on his robes.
He pushes me away, “Leave me alone Greengrass, God, Pansy was right you are annoying!” He roars.
“Draco...” I start.
“STOP! YOU ARE NOT MY MUM!” He yells running back towards Diagon Alley.
My eyes fill with tears as I follow him back to Astoria, who is sitting on the steps.
“Hey where were you guys!” She yells as Draco approaches her and grabs his books from her and throws the money at her feet.
“None of your business, Astoria,” I say wiping my tears away.
I can see Draco walking towards the tea shop and I fell like cursing him.
