I felt my jean pocket vibrate. I nearly tipped the ink bottle I was dipping my quill into over. I reached into my pocket and took out a round compact mirror with silver lining around it.
“What took you so long?” I yelled. Sirius’s face popped up on the mirror. He shook is neck length black hair.
“Sorry mate, I got side tracked.” He said, out of breath.
“Is, is that a twig in your hair?” I said, examining the right side of his head through the mirror. He reached for his head and felt around.
“Would you look at that?” he said, pulling the twig from his hair, “It is a twig! How’d that get in there?” he examined it in his hands.
“Never mind Sirius, is she coming?” I asked.
“Yeah she is almost there, you should get a move on.”
“Roger that!” I said and placed the mirror back into my pocket. I ran out of the Gryffindor common room towards the entrance of the school.
Alright so Lily should be walking down this corridor when I turn the corner; she had care of Magical Creatures this morning. Sure enough, when I rounded the corner Lily was walking up the corridor with Mary, probably on her way to the Gryffindor common room. I slowed my run to a casual walk, but my breath was still heavy from running.
‘Work with it James, girls love a fit man.’ I thought. I ran my hand through my hair and pushed my round glasses up - I strutted towards Lily.
“Hey Evans.” I said in a casual voice.
She and Mary were talking, but stopped when they heard me. She looked at me with her striking green eyes and I practically melted where I stood. “Piss of Potter.” She said and kept walking. I turned so that I was walking in the same direction as her.
“Oh come on Evans, I just want to ask you something!” I said, running to her side.
“I didn’t even say anything!” I complained.
“It’s what you’re going to say.” She said, agitated.
“You cannot possibly know what-”
“You were going to say, ‘Lily I think you should come to Hogsmeade with me this weekend’” she said, cutting me off. “And then I will say no, like usual, and you will retort back. It is a conversation we can both afford to skip out on today.” I paused for a moment- she was right. “I’m right.” She said in her winning voice.
I can’t just let her see me crash and burn on the spot; I have to think of something and fast.
“I wasn’t going to say that.” She raised her eyebrows at me.
“Alright, what were you going to say then.” She stopped walking and stared at me. My mind went blank as I looked into her eyes.
“Uhh- I- Uhh. I think Travis- uh- likes you.” I said, mentally smacking myself in the forehead; why would I tell her something like that!
“Really?” It sounded like she was excited, but was trying to cover it up.
“I don’t know.” I said a little defensively. Her and Mary exchanged glances and started walking again.
“Hey! Where are you going?” I yelled. They continued walking without hearing me. It sounded like they were whispering about something. I heard footsteps approaching from behind me; a moment later, Sirius was on my right side with his hands in his pockets.
“That was bloody brutal mate.” He said, nodding. I glared over at him and smacked him on the head.
“Watch it! I need those extra brain cells for owls this year!” he said, putting a hand to his head. I rolled my eyes and started walking back to the common room.
That right there was the beginning of my fifth year of Hogwarts. I know what you’re thinking, how could she be so cold to an attractive, charming block like me, simple- she hated me. How is it that the one girl I loved most at Hogwarts wouldn’t spare five minutes without insulting or threatening me with my life?
This particular conversation took a nasty blow for the rest of that year for me and any chance I had with Lily. That one little slip up about Travis Kingsley liking Lily, which in my defense didn’t actually think was true. How was I supposed to know that Lily had had a crush on him for years! He was a complete tosser- didn’t even know a thing about Quidditch.
Anyways, that one catastrophic moment lead to Travis asking Lily out and them dating for the rest of the year. I’m not sure if they are still dating, but one thing is for sure- that was fifth year. This is sixth year.
Over the summer, along with creating Quidditch strategies, I created a whole new game plan. Lily won’t know what hit her and that boyfriend- well let’s just say he will be out of the picture.
I’m not saying I am going to kill him, Lily would be crushed. I’ll just have to work around that, but the rest of the plan is 100% do able. With a little help from my fellow Marauders, the whole plan should run as smooth as a pixies head… Maybe that wasn’t the best way of describing it since pixie heads are not always smooth, but you get the picture.
My name is James Potter and I am on a quest to win Lily Evans heart.
How was that for a Prologue! I think this might be one of the shortest chapters I have ever written- EVER. What did you guess think? The rest of the chapters will definitely be longer than this, but how is this for a starter? I’d love to know what you think! Perhaps in review form??
Thanks for reading!
