Just at midnight, a witch dressed in a dark cloak who looked no more than thirteen, scurried across the streets of Hogsmeade. She’d been running all day, and hid from shop to shop avoiding Death Eaters. A few minutes after hiding in an abandoned old shop, she slowed down. She walked in the middle of the street lousily. She hadn’t slept for days.
Her eyes were tired, her body ached, and she had dark circles around her eyes. On any other day she would be bright and beautiful (as always), but today, she was mess. While walking she rested her eyes for a while. She only heard the sounds of her footsteps and birds. Suddenly, she heard something else. Other footsteps than her own.
She was now alert and opened her eyes. As she sped up, the other footsteps became faster too. She looked back and saw two dark cloaked figures she knew as Death Eaters. She quickly ran around the first corner she saw, but the two Death Eaters followed her everywhere she ran. She was hunted down.
She pulled out her wand, turned, and shouted, “Incendio!”
The Death Eaters stopped in their tracks surrounded by fire. One pointed his wand at her and shouted, “Stupefy!”
The witch was able to avoid the attack barely. She made a sharp turn around the next corner and stopped. She leaned her head to the edge of the building to hear the two Death Eaters’ conversation.
“She got away!” she heard one say. “The Dark Lord won’t be pleased at all.”
“Where is that bloody girl?” the other said.
“There’s no chance in finding her now. She’s probably halfway to Hogwarts by now.”
“What will we do now? Now with her and Harry Potter, how will the Dark Lord win?”
“Watch your mouth! He will win either way. Or do you question his power?”
“Of course not!”
“Good.” the second Death Eater said. “What an ungrateful brat that girl is. After all he has given her, she rebels against him.”
She snickered at what they thought about her. Why should she be grateful for a curse?
“He would be happy to take her head.” he stated before walking away.
After minutes of walking, the witch finally reached Hogwarts. She’d planned her return for months, and now she was at her destination. Just outside the gate was another figure. She slowly approached it. When she was only a few feet away, the figure turned. To her surprise it was Albus Dumbledore.
“Why hello professor.” she said pleasantly.
“Hello Miss Johnson. It’s been awhile hasn’t it?” Dumbledore asked Beaming. “Come inside. We can talk in my office.” he said escorting her in his office. She looked around impressed.
“So, Carter-Bethani, what have you been up to lately?”
“You know exactly what I’ve been up to, and you can call me Carter.” she said pleased to see a friend.
“Yes, I do know, but I must ask how your plans have gone.”
“They’ve been great, but I must ask a big favor from you professor.”
“Of course. And you can call me Albus.” he said smiling.
Carter paused for a moment wandering how to ask her favor, but finally got it.
“I need to enroll in Hogwarts.” she said plainly watching Dumbledore. “I know, it sounds crazy. I might even be putting the students in danger, but this is the only place I could turn to.”
“Of course you can join us here. We would be honored to have you teach here…”
“I don’t want to teach.” Carter interrupted. “I want to enroll as a student.”
Dumbledore paused in confusion.
“If I may ask, why?” he asked.
“Well, I never got to finish my senior year. I might as well start over.” she said smiling. Dumbledore couldn’t help but smile with her.
That was also a part of her beauty. She could make anyone smile. Even in the darkest of times. To other people, her face and personality seemed to glow. She had a way with people that was unexplainable.
“Well, it’s very late. Do you have a place to stay?” Dumbledore asked.
“Well…” Carter choked.
“That’s alright. I have a friend who would be happy to take you in.”
“Really?” Carter asked surprised.
“Yes, now follow me. It’s time for you to meet the Weasleys.” he said as he escorted her outside his
After they walked off the grounds of Hogwarts, Dumbledore and Carter apperated to a strange building. It was stacked stories high and was lopsided.
“Here we are. Welcome to your home for the summer.” he said.
“Wow. So this is the Weasleys’ house. Large family I’m guessing.” Carter said looking at all the stories of the house.
“Yes, but I’m certain it won’t feel crowded.” Dumbledore assured her.
“I’d be happy even if it was. I hate feeling lonely.”
The walked to the door of the house. As soon as they were in arms reach from the door, Carter paused. Dumbledore stopped and looked back.
“Is something bothering you?” he asked.
“No. Just a little nervous.” she replied. Her voice a little shaky.
“There’s no need to be. They are very welcoming people.”
“O-Ok.” she said still nervous walking toward the door. She knocked twice waiting for someone to answer it. A few seconds after, a short plump woman answered the door.
“Oh, hello.” the women said.
“Hello, I, uh…” Carter looked to see if Dumbledore was at her side. Unfortunately, he had disappeared. “I-I…I need a place to stay, please. Could I stay for a day?” Carter asked nervously. She was not used to people treating her kindly. She didn’t know what to expect.
“Of course, dear. You look exhausted.” the plump lady said kindly.
A vast smile appeared on Carter’s face.
“I’m Molly, Molly Weasley.”
“I’m Carter Johnson.”
“Come in. it’s awfully windy. I have bath and hot meal waiting for you right inside.” Molly said letting Carter inside.
