~* Ron apologised *~
Harry gave Ginny a kiss goodnight and headed up to his dorm, Harry thought about Ron and how much he hated that he was hurting but he was taking it all the wrong way. Ignoring people and not listening to what they have to say is one thing, shutting them all out of his life hurt not only him but his family and his two best friends that have always been there for him. Harry sighed and shook his head as he walked into the Dorm, to find Ron sitting on his bed holding a picture frame from the beginning of last year of the three of them Hermione, Ron and Harry; all smiles and waving at the camera.
“Good times.” Harry said from the door way making Ron look up.
“Yeah,” Ron said placing the frame back next to his bed. “Look mate, I’ve been an arse...”
“Too right you have.” Harry cut him off. “You need to know something mate. Hermione and George are happy, they have Dylan and guess what they are all she has left as family! Her parents were attacked and were killed. How do you think your being an arse has affect her? Your one of her best friends and she’s been going through so much in the last few months and all you can do is mope around cursing that she doesn’t love you like you love her. She loves you I can guarantee you that, but as a mate and as a brother.” Harry said never raising his voice but slowly getting angrier the more he talked. “You’ve got to buck up mate and figure a few things out.”
“Yeah, I’ve been doing that.” Ron was silent for a moment before looking up at Harry. “I would prefer to be her friend rather than nothing at all.”
Harry smiled. “What about the rest of us?”
“Well George and Ginny are family I was always going to forgive them eventually. Harry you’re like a brother to me, and we’ve had fallings outs before and I guess if you can forgive me for being an arse, I’d like to head down to breakfast with you tomorrow.”
Harry laughed and held out his hand; Ron smiled as he stood and walked up to Harry and shook his hand. “Now you better grovel to Hermione.” Harry said seriously before smiling with his best friend happy to finally have him back.
The next morning the two boys made their way into the Great Hall falling over each other and laughing loudly making most of the Hall turn their way before continuing on with their breakfast. However Hermione and Ginny stared at them with raised eyebrows as the boys fell into seat across from them.
“Friends again?” Ginny ask innocently, both boys nodded with huge grins on their faces.
Hermione and Ginny both shook their heads and continued to eat their breakfast. Well that was until they were interrupted. “Hermione,” Hermione looked up to see that Ron was looking right at her.
“Yes?” Hermione asked with a raised brow.
“I was wondering if you’d be able to forgive me for my behaviour. It was unforgivable the way I acted towards George, you and the kid.” Ron said looking rather sorrowful.
“The kid?” Hermione asked looking at Ron with narrow eyes and a tilted head.
“Yeah, the boy,” Ron said as if it was obvious about who he was talking about.
“You mean Dylan, that little boy. The one I have with George. That little boy?” Hermione asked under her breath.
“Yeah.” Ron said brightly.
Hermione shook her head. “You’re trying to ask for my forgiveness and you can’t even remember your own nephew’s name.” Hermione said looking sick.
Ron started to look rather worried that he’d totally stuffed it. “Well...”
“No Ron not ‘well...’!” Hermione said rather loudly, Hermione took a deep breath and said quietly. “When you actually give a shit, you know where to find me.” Hermione said grabbing her bag and a piece of bacon before leaving the Hall at a march.
“Well that didn’t go very well.” Ron said with a shrug looking at a lost as to what to say or do.
“You are such a...” Ginny started before shaking her head stopping herself. “Do you have any idea of what you just said?” Ginny asked looking closely at her brother.
“What do you mean? I just said I was sorry for the way towards George her and the kid.” Ron said looking at his sister not understanding what she was asking. Ginny shook her head grabbed her bag and left the Hall after Hermione.
“What did I do now?” Ron asked turning to Harry who shook his head.
“His name is Dylan,” Harry said looking at Ron.
“Yeah I know, and...” Ron said looking very confused at Harry.
“Dylan is her child, you are supposed to be one of her best friends and Dylan’s Uncle to boot and you can’t even say his name. He is everything to them, and I mean everything. I’m not going to lie to you, I’ve know about Dylan since towards the end of the summer not long after they told the whole family they were going out. I’ve seen them alone with him when they are safe to be themselves, and they are everything to each other, and if you can’t accept a single part of her new family then she isn’t likely to forgive you. Plus what has Dylan ever done to you he is a baby he can’t even talk yet let alone walk.” Harry said quietly making sure that no one could over hear their conversation.
Ron was quiet while he digested what Harry was saying. “I’ve got a lot of work ahead of me, don’t I Harry.”
Harry snorted “You have no bloody idea mate.”
When Hermione got back to the Common Room after classes she found that George was already there, but it looked like he had just gotten there as there was a large pile of papers thrown onto his desk and the bathroom door was shut but Dylan was sitting in front of the fire rolling a ball back and forwards with Denni.
“Hello,” Hermione said placing her bag on her desk chair before moving over to sit on the floor with them. “Thank you so much for help Denni, I don’t know what we would have done without you.”
Denni bowed her head in shyness, “Denni was told to look after the young Weasley family, and Denni would never let Professor Dumbledore down.”
“Still thank you.” Hermione said smiling at the elf.
“Denni is unsure what to say Miss Hermione, you are one of the nicest witch’s Denni has ever met.” Denni said nodding her head smiling.
Hermione laughed, “Thank you Denni, you’re quite special yourself.”
“Yes you are Denni, I almost wish we could take you with us when we have to go home at the end of the school year.” George said making Hermione jump. “Thanks for today Denni, we’ve got it from here now.”
Denni nodded before getting to her feet, and going over to Dylan to give him a hug goodbye.
“Good night Miss Hermione and Mr George.” Denni said before popping back to the kitchen.
“Don’t scare me like that.” Hermione said frowning picking up Dylan and going over to the changing table.
“Hi Babe,” George said going up behind Hermione and giving her a quick kiss on the side of her neck.
“Hello.” Hermione said her frown turning into a small smile before turning back to Dylan. “How was your day?”
“Long, but I’m here now so it’s great.” George said giving Hermione a cheeky wink. “How about your day, was it terrible not seeing me all day?”
“Terrible,” Hermione with a small laugh before sighing. “Actually, it was interesting and infuriating at the same time.”
“What happened?” George asked frowning.
“You kidding I thought it’d take a lot longer for him to come around.” George said looking really surprised.
“Yeah but I didn’t accept it.” Hermione said softly.
“Why not?” George asked after a moment silence.
“Because he was sorry for the way he had acted toward you, me and the kid.” Hermione said coldly looking away from everyone in the room. “He can’t accept that I’ve moved on, and am happy with the life I’m making for myself. So I’ll accept his apology only when that happens.”
“Hermione, this is your choice, he is your friend, yes he’s my brother, but you need to make the choice that is best for you and for Dylan.” George said quietly before pulling Hermione into his arms and squeezed her tightly, as she borrowed her face into his shoulder.
“I’m not going to tell him George.” Hermione said leaning back looking him in the eye. “As far as I’m concerned Dylan is your son. He’s more your son than anybody else. To think otherwise it just doesn’t fit, at the end of the day he still has your blood he has Weasley blood in him.”
George smiled softly and gave Hermione one of the tenderest kisses that he had ever given her. All the muscles in George's body finally relaxed as if Hermione’s words were exactly what he’d needed to hear for so long. “I guess I’m just worried about how he’s going to react if one day he finds out.”
“How is he going to find out?” Hermione asked frowning.
“What if someone were to tell him...”
“Who would George? The only people that know I can count on one hand everyone else thinks he’s yours because he is. You were there when he was born George! You’re the one that has been there since day one no one else. Anyone can be a father George but not everyone can be a dad, and you’re his dad.”
“Thank you.” George said softly pulling her closely and kissing the top of her head.
“So are you guys all packed?” Ginny asked Hermione at breakfast, the morning they were all heading to the Burrow on the Hogwarts Express.
“Mostly, just have to throw a couple of last minute things into my trunk.”
It has been a couple of weeks since Ron had first tried to apologise to Hermione, and Hermione would not hear anything that Ron had to say as he was yet to be able to say Dylan’s name so Hermione took it that he had yet to get over the fact that she had moved on and he hadn’t.
Everyone was heading home to the Burrow this year, even Ron. So Hermione was hoping that Dylan’s first Christmas wouldn’t be too tense. But if Ron where to do anything she had Ginny, Harry and George there. Plus she was sure that Mrs Weasley would want her 1st grandchild’s Christmas the best there ever was, even if he wasn’t even going to remember it.
“Hey you guys better get moving, the train leaves in about an hour, might wanna get a move on if you wanna get a decent compartment.” Harry said turning from Ron to interrupting their girl talk.
Hermione looked at her watch and he eyes went wide, “I’ll see you guys soon,” Hermione said as she raced out the hall and the Common Room where she started to throw last minute things into her trunk and packed up a bag for Dylan that George would take onto the train.
Hermione just finished as George walked through the door with a laughing Dylan. “Hey, you all ready?” George asked giving her a quick kiss and a grin.
“Yes, and if we get moving now we’ll make it down to the train and get a decent compartment on the train.” Hermione said with a smile.
“Awesome, I’ll have to meet you down there, okay.” George said giving her another kiss before grabbing his own trunk that Fred and flued to him once he had found out about George teaching at Hogwarts so that he and Dylan could be close to Hermione.
“Okay see you in a bit.” Hermione said running a hand through her hair and looking around her going over her mental list of things she needed to take with her.
Hermione met Harry and Ginny on the front steps, as they were waiting for a spare carriage.
"All ready to go?" Ginny asked when Hermione made her way toward them.
"Yeah George said that he'd meet us on the train, I think he got one of the first carriages to make sure that there weren't any troubles with people getting onto the train." Hermione said as she placed her trunk on the ground next to Ginny's.
Not long after Hermione joined them it was their turn to climb into a carriage and make their way down to the train that would be taking them to the Burrow for the Christmas holidays. Once everyone was settled in their seats on the train George showed up with a very cranky looking Dylan. George took a seat next to Hermione and sighed as lent his head on the board above the seat.
"You would think that some of the people from this school had never boarded a train before, it's almost as if Dylan is as annoyed with them as I am." George said as he turned the little boy around to smile at the grumpy looking little boy.
"Are you cranky with all those silly people little man?" Hermione asked smiling at the him making Dylan smile and bounce. "Not so cranky any more are you?" Hermione laughed tickling Dylan’s stomach.
"I can't wait to get home. Do you know if mum is meeting us at the station?" Ginny asked George as George made a face at Dylan.
"No she isn't so we're going to have to go on the night bus."
"Cool, dinner should be ready by the time we get home then." Ginny said her stomach rumbling.
"How can you be hungry? We didn't eat that long ago." Hermione asked Ginny just as George and Harry’s stomachs growled as well.
"Well it nearly lunch time." George said as he handed Dylan to Hermione.
