So here is a Lily/James one-shot for you all to read and enjoy! Please review!

Lily sighed as she walked towards the Quidditch pitch. Alice was making her go to the game. She had said it would be fun but Lily couldn't imagine why it would be. It was just a bunch of people flying around on brooms trying to catch things and throw things. It didn’t really have a point. But she was going anyway.

It was going to be the final game of the year. James had done nothing but talk about it with her and it was really getting really annoying. Actually about a few hours after James realized he would be playing in the final match it got annoying. At this point it was nearly painful. She was going to be happy it would be over but she didn’t think she would give James the satisfaction of knowing she had come. He would never let her rest if he knew she had caved to his request that she be there.

Lily walked up the creaking steps  to find a nice hidden seat in the back. She would go but she wouldn’t be seen by anyone she knew. Oh why was Alice making her do this! Why had she agreed to this! Lily was getting more and more nervous with every step she took. Her normal confidence was wearing down very quickly and she didn’t like it.

“Calm down Lily, calm down,” she told herself. “It’s only a Quidditch game. You are going to watch Gryffindor play Slytherin. You are going because you want Gryffindor to be the best. You do not know or care who the players are. You do not want Slytherin to beat Gryffindor again. That is why you are climbing these steps. That is why you are here.”

Lily closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She realized her breathing had gotten heavy and fast and that she was shaking. She grabbed onto one of the rough beams supporting the stands high above her and sat down on the step and waited for her body to calm down so she could walk out to the stands as confident Lily Evans. Not the scared and confused Lily Evans she was now.

“Oh what are you saying Lily!” She put her head between her knees and started braiding her red hair. “Of course you are here to see James Potter play Quidditch! Of course he is the reason you are on these steps and Alice is making you go and you are so confused and distracted right now. Of course he is.” Lily choked back a sob and took her braid out of the hands that had taken it from her.

“I wasn’t done braiding.” Lily didn’t look up for she knew who was sitting beside her braiding her hair. She didn’t have to see him to know Remus was there. He always could find her when she was feeling down or unsure of herself or just confused.

“Lily, why are you sitting on the steps of the stands at the Quidditch pitch crying?” Remus pulled the last strands of hair into the braid and let it fall onto Lily’s hunched back.

“Remus. Why am I sitting on the steps of the stands at the Quidditch pitch crying?” Lily looked into his eyes for an answer that she did not have.

“Is it James? Is that why you are here and crying? Is he the reason you’ve lost your bit of confidence I know is buried in you right now?”

“Yes. I think it is James. See Alice made me go to the game and so I decided to go but as I was coming up here...” Lily trailed off, searching Remus’s eyes for the rest of her sentence.

“You started thinking about him.” Remus finished.

“I think so. Oh what do I do!”

“What do you mean what do you do? Do you actually like him Lily?”

“No. Maybe. I don’t know! I know he’s an arrogant prat but sometimes I see this side of him I really like and it’s just that most of the time I never get to see the sweet caring side of him. Is he an arrogant prat when he’s with you and Peter and Sirius?”

“No, it’s only because you make him nervous that he is an arrogant prat Lily. He really likes you and doesn’t know what to do except be an arrogant prat around you.”

“You think so?”

“Yeah, I think so.”

“Then what should I do? Because if he’s actually really sweet then I think I should go out with him but if he’s not really that way then I shouldn’t go out with him. So which is he!”

“Just talk to him Lily. Things will fall into place eventually. It just takes time.” Remus stood up and extended a hand to Lily.  “Now get up or you’ll miss the game!”

“And what a shame that would be!” Lily exclaimed as she took Remus’s warm hand a got up from her crouched position against the wooden beam.

“Oh you know it’s interesting despite it just being ‘some sweaty people flying around for no reason whatsoever!’” Remus dodged a punch aimed at him for mocking Lily’s description of the game when James had asked her to go that morning.

“I do not sound like that and you know it!” Lily’s cheeks were flushed with anger as Remus just laughed at her reaction.

“Oh I’m sorry, I forgot you voice is a little deeper than that.” Remus suppressed a smile as Lily’s face began to match the color of her hair more and more.

“It is not!” Lily kicked him in the shins and stomped up the stairs until she reached the next landing where she waited for him to join her again.

“Ow! That hurt Lily! You know I doubt James would say yes to a girl who was so violent even if you did decide you liked him!” Remus was grabbing his shin and hopping up the stairs. Lily was giggling at his moans of mock agony.

“Good. It was supposed to hurt and I think James wouldn’t mind that I was a little violent considering what a toerag he has been all these years. And you deserved to feel pain for that so quit complaining. I mean if it didn’t I could certainly make it actually hurt but I think you’ll agree with me that a kick was enough and hurry up here. I’m not going out there alone you know.” Lily crossed  her arms and started tapping her foot as Remus made his way very slowly up the stairs between him and Lily.

Remus scowled as he walked up to her and together they climbed the remaining stairs until the passage lightened and the two sixth years walked into the open air of one of the taller stands. There wasn’t much room in the tight, tall box, but Remus saw something and started to make his way over to a spot on the edge with room for both of them to watch the game.

Lily scooted over to the very edge so she could assess exactly where she was in the Quidditch pitch. She had only seen the pitch a few times. Back in her first year she had been down there for flying lessons but only took the course she had to take so since then she had not been to this area of the school. She figured she must be very high in the air and somewhere in between the two sets of tall posts at either end of the oval shaped field.

Remus was whispering in her ear about how the game of Quidditch was played and who everyone was and what was going on. Lily was holding onto his words but not really listening to them. She was more concerned with not being seen and having someone she knew and trusted with her. His words were mostly a comfort to her than information.

Just then one of the Slytherin’s with a bat that looked like it would hurt if he got angry flew by her and did a double take. With a malicious smile he flew over to the other Slytherin Remus had said was a thumper or a beater or something. The one who had flown near her whispered something in the other one’s ear and then the twosome went over to where James was.

The first one, Lily thought his name was Flint or something like that, sat up straight and pointed his wand at his chin. “Excuse me, ladies and gentlemen, we are going to have a little show for you starring the most amazing Gryffindor seeker James Potter and his friend Lily Evans.”

James was within inches of the snitch but when he heard the Slytheirn he spun around to see what they had done to Lily or were planning to do.

The second beater, who Remus had called Romm, pointed his wand at his chin and began to talk. “Oh yes! See we though you might like to see James here falling for his love over there. So with the help of our adorable bludger we are going to provide some entertainment to this match!”

“What are you talking about and where is she!” James was now frantically searching the stands at top speed to find and protect Lily.

“Remus what are they doing and why are they talking about me?” Lily looked scared and had gone back to the confused girl she had been on the stairs.

“I don’t know Lily, but have your wand out for whatever they do.” Remus was fumbeling for his own wand as her gave her the advice.

Lily grabbed her own wand and saw what must have been a bludger soaring towards her. She tried to duck but the ball rammed into her wand, snapping it in two as well as bending several of her fingers backwards.

Then Lily was free. She felt weigthless and wonderful then filled with the horrible sensation that she would probably be killed upon impact with the broken pieces of wood scattered on the ground where she would soon lay.

James saw a body with beautiful red hair and a personality he loved so much tossed into the air and without thinking he sped to the ground where she would fall to seconds later. He felt the broom he loved so much splinter as she landed on his arm. Someone must have slowed her down magically because the force that he felt as she landed was not as great as it should have felt, but she certainly fell hard. He was knocked down and felt a jabbing pain in his back as a piece of wood tore though his robes and into his skin but he didn’t care because Lily was not dead.

“James?” Lily looked into the eyes of the boy who had saved her. She heard someone cheering in the background and a announcer saying that Slytherin had won and after James had gone to her rescue, Molt or whatever his name was had caught the snitch and won the game.

“Yeah Lily?” James ignored the pain in his back and the thoughts that they had lost the game. He knew he would not win and there would be a lot of commotion over the actions of the Slytherin beaters but he pushed away the voice in the back of him head telling him the beaters had set him up to lose the game.

“Yes.” Lily said calmly.

“Yes what?” James scrunched up his face in confusion to Lily’s strange statement.

“Yes I will go out with you.” Lily said with a slight smile growing on her face.

“What! You will? Wait, why the sudden change of mind?” Jame’s face broke into a grin as he heard the words he never thought Lily would say to him.

“Because I could have fallen down and to the ground to my death possibly and you would have won but instead I have fallen into the arms of someone who cares and is not the arrogant prat he has been all these years. He is the real James who I think I am in love with.” Lily then leaned in to kiss James.
