There was nothing in front of her and nothing behind her, but it felt like she was completely enclosed. It looked like she was running on leaves but they were fuzzy, as if they were a moving blur. All around her sounds were echoing; growls and screams and buzzing bouncing off of her and her hidden surroundings, making the black world she was trapped in seem larger and scarier than it looked.
There was rain.
It wasn’t a downpour and it wasn’t a mist, it was as if the sky was trying to cry but there was a greater force choking off the emotion. The air felt cold, instead of muggy, and her skin was alive with goose bumps. It felt like she had been running straight for the longest time, but the time on her overly huge watch on her wrist seemed to be crawling; it had only been seconds.
Someone was calling her name, and the closer she got, the more distant it sounded. As her pace slowed to a standstill, everything around her came into view and sped up at lightning speed until she was standing in front of a door.
The back of her mind was telling her not to open it, but her hand was shaking and magnetically reaching towards it, as if she had lost control. Dreams like this always turned into nightmares, so why should she open the door and unleash whatever was behind it? But she couldn’t stop – her hand was twisting the knob slowly and effortlessly, and then she was stepping inside.
The air inside the room was unbearably hot, and Hermione closed her eyes and tipped her head back. She was falling and waiting for the thud of her body as it hit the floor, but instead she hit something solid, something that felt like a person. The figure carried her to the bed and set her down gently, and everything around her felt comfortable.
“I’m right here...”
Hermione wrapped her arms around whoever was holding her, not really sure what was going on but feeling like everything was how it was supposed to be. It felt like she was high up in the clouds floating on air, and whoever was holding her was kissing her head softly and whispering a song into her ear.
“It’s ok darling, I’m here. Your husband Draco is here...”
Hermione shot up in a cold sweat, gasping for air and freaked out of her mind.
She looked to her right side and saw Blaise looking up at her with concerned eyes. “Blaise?”
He sat up as he rubbed his eyes. “Yeah?”
“What happened when?”
Hermione raked her fingers through her hair. “I just had the weirdest dream...”
Blaise leaned over and kissed her cheek. “What happened?”
“Just...” she paused. Should she tell Blaise she had just had a dream where his best friend was her husband? Probably not. “It was dark... And scary...”
Blaise fell back on the bed, his head hitting the pillows with a soft thud. “You’re scared of the dark?”
“So?” Hermione followed suit and stared up at the ceiling.
He laughed. “You’re the most interesting girl I’ve met in a while.”
She turned her face to the side and smiled. “I was so preoccupied with you annoying me that I forgot to tell you good morning.”
Blaise returned the smile. “Good morning sexy.”
Just as Hermione was about to respond, a light hearted laugh came from the doorway. “Oh how precious!” Both turned to see Amelia in the doorway, a lacy lingere dress barely covering her up as she leaned against the doorframe.
Hermione was taken aback. “What are you doing in my room?”
Amelia smiled. “Your door wasn’t closed all the way, silly!”
Blaise felt Hermione tighten as she took a deep breathe. “Well as you can see, we’re kind of,”
“Amelia? Where are you?” Draco appeared in the doorway, gaping. “What’s going on here?”
Hermione sighed and sat up. “Malfoy, do you and your girlfriend mind?”
Draco couldn’t help letting his eyes linger on her silky tank top longer than he should have. “So the rumors are true?” He was bluntly referring to the heated topic of Hermione and Blaise sleeping together.
Blaise sat up and draped his arm around Hermione’s shoulders. “I don’t see how that’s any of your concern, mate. But we’re kind of in the middle of something.”
Amelia giggled and skipped away, and Hermione could already imagine what kind of wreck she’d cause having seen them in bed together. With her new looks, there was no way anyone would believe that her and Blaise had only fallen asleep together, especially with rumors of their nonexistent sex life already spread around like wildfire.
Hermione let out a disgruntled sigh and leaned forward, resting her head in her hands. Blaise stood up and padded to the door in his shirt from yesterday and boxers. Draco’s eyebrow was cocked in a mix of disgust and anger and he waited somewhat patiently for his best mate to take his time walking towards him.
“See you at breakfast?” Blaise said quietly, resting his hand on the doorknob of Hermione’s open door.
“Yeah, see you there.”
Draco walked away with too many thoughts on his mind, wondering how the rest of the day would go with this new information in Amelia’s catty hands.
When Blaise turned back around, Hermione was out of bed and throwing clothes out of her dresser. “What in the world are you doing?”
She didn’t respond.
“Hermione? You’re throwing clothes out... On the floor...”
She sighed and stopped, crumpling to the floor and bursting into sobs.
Blaise walked over, not too sure what to do, and sat down with a sigh. “What’s wrong?”
Hermione didn’t look up as she responded through sobs, “IT’S NOT FAAAIIIRRR!”
“What’s not fair?”
Hiccup. “SHE’LL TELL EVERYBODYYYY!”
“Who will tell everybody what?”
Cough cough. “THAT WE’RE HAVING SEEEEEEX!” Blaise burst out in a fit of laughter which only caused Hermione to cry harder. “IT’S NOT FUUUUNNNNNYYYYY!”
His laughter calmed down as he reached out and gently leaned her into his chest. “I hate to break it to you, but everyone already assumes we’re having sex.”
“BUT NOW SHE’LL SAY SHE SAW US IN BED TOGETHER!”
“So? No one even knows who she is.”
“THAT’S NOT THE POOOINT!”
“We talked about how this would happen, remember? You’re a sex symbol, doll.”
Hermione shook her head furiously. “NO I’M NOOOOOT!”
“Yes, you are.”
“I DON’T WANT TO BE A SEX SYMBOOOL!”
“You knew this would happen.”
Hermione’s sobs paused so abruptly that Blaise wondered if she had passed out. He could feel her breathing, and figured it was best to just wait until she spoke. Many women in his lifetime had been in this position and he had gotten his head bitten off more than once by talking when they didn’t want to hear it.
“I need chocolate.”
Blaise’s eyes narrowed in confusion. “What?”
She scooted her way away from him before standing up and placing her hands on her hips. “I need some chocolate.”
“I’m not asking.”
He raised an eyebrow. “You’re telling me to get you some chocolate?”
Hermione nodded. “We agreed you’d do what I want, and I need chocolate. I’m going to take a bath and when I’m out, I. Want. My. Chocolate.” Before he could respond, she stormed out of her room and a few seconds later he heard the bathroom door slam.
She knew she was being a little demanding and very bitchy, but she knew today wasn’t going to turn out well. Amelia would spread her gossip all over the school and then her reputation would be finished for good. She needed a hot bubble bath and some smooth chocolate and then perhaps she could just stay in the Head’s dorm all day, since it was the weekend. Her absence would probably fuel the fire... But there was no way she was in an emotional position to face her classmates.
Blaise, as he made his way out of the Head’s dorm and down to the dungeons to change for the day, mumbled under his breath about his girlfriend. It was true that he said he’d help her with whatever she needed but demanding chocolate? Because her feelings were hurt? Did all girls do weird stuff like that?
Later, as he hurried out of the dungeons to request chocolate from the house elves, he ran into Amelia. “BLAISE!”
He sighed and turned around with a smile. “Amelia.”
She sauntered over to him and draped her arm around his waist. “Hello love, where are you off to in such a hurry?”
“Getting chocolate for Hermione, she’s not feeling too well.”
Amelia laughed and tossed her hair behind her shoulders. “Some girls can’t take a real man.” She winked suggestively and held tighter.
Blaise squirmed. “Right. Well I really should be going...”
“I’ll go with you!”
“No, really, it’s alright. I’m sure Draco is waiting for you.”
She shook her head slightly. “He’s in the room.”
Blaise’s eyes narrowed. “Hermione’s in the common room, too.”
Amelia giggled and wrapped her arms around Blaise’s waist, pushing him somewhat forcefully into the corner. “Seems perfect.”
He wanted more than anything to push her off, but how could he? Her hands were all over and she was nibbling on his neck in a way that made him want to surrender. But then his belt was being undone. “Stop.”
He pushed her off and walked down the corridor, leaving an unhappy and very angry Amelia in his wake
