Chapter 9

~* the jealous type *~

That night when George arrived at his apartment he shared with Fred, he felt like he was the luckiest guy on earth and had to tell his twin about it. George banged on Fred’s door and yelled for his twin to wake up. After banging for a minute he opened the door to a sight he hoped he would never see again. He closed the door and went and sat down in lounge trying to get the picture of Fred and Katie Bell from his mind.

“What’s up George?” Fred asked walking out of his bedroom with only pyjama bottoms on.

“You obviously.” George said with a raised eyebrow.

“Oh ha-ha!” Fred said sarcastically.

“What happened to a towel on the door if you have company?” George asked and grimaced as Fred turned slightly pink.

Fred rolled his eyes at his twin. “So what did you interrupt me and Katie for?”

“I asked Hermione out tonight and I needed to talk to someone.” George said looking at his hands.

Fred perked up at this new and stared at his brother. “Yeah? How did it go?” Fred asked loudly.

“She said yes. We’re going out on Friday night.” George said looking up at his twin with a huge grin on his face.

“Alright! I knew she liked you!” Fred said as if that was what he had been saying for years and George just shook his head.

“Yeah, well I’ll talk to you later about it okay. I’ll let you get back to your bed buddy.” George said sarcastically.

“Thanks.” Fred said with a grin.

“And can you do me a huge favour and use silencing spells on your walls.” George said as he walked into his room and shut the door behind him.

“So where are we going?” Hermione asked when George picked her up Friday night.

“I was thinking about this little muggle café I know of just outside of London.” George said honestly as they walked down the street hand in hand.

“Okay.” Hermione said. Before George pulled her closer and tighter and appartated a couple of blocks away from the café.

They sat down at an empty table in the back corner of the cosy café and just talked like they usually did when they were at Hermione’s place and Dylan was asleep.

“Jeez, my first night out since Dylan was born and all I can do it talk about him.” Hermione said with a sigh.

“Hermione, right now Dylan is your life and everything he does affect’s everything that you do. That’s called being a mother.” George said with an understand smile. “What books are you reading lately other than your school texts?”

“Well actually I’ve been reading up on business. Books like how to run a small business, how best to manage a small business, how best to do accounting for your business, how to make your business profitable and things like that.” Hermione said and took a sip from her glass of water.

“Taken a sudden interest in businesses at the moment huh?” George asked with a smile.

“Yeah well, you were telling me about some of the problems that you were coming across with your store so I guess it started out as a little bit of research then it turned into a personal interest.” Hermione said with a shy smile.

“What problems was that?” George asked trying to remember back to that convocation.

“You were telling me that you had just reached the next tax bracket because your profit has been growing and that means that you gotta pay more out that you can’t really afford to do at the moment. So I looked it all up (A/N: now if there is any business wiz reading this you might want to ignore it because it’s all a load of rubbish and completely made up, I have no idea how tax really works but I couldn’t think of anything else at the time okay. So please forgive and ignore thanks. Back to the story) and there are a few solutions but some are not as good as others.” Hermione said leaning forward over the table.

“Okay, well what are they?” George asked with an amused smile.

“Well for one you could cut back on your stock which would bring down your profit, the less you sell the less profit you make. But really you don’t want to stop selling things because well really who would. Another would be to hire someone so that not only you and your brother are working there full time. If you have another person there you would be making less profit because they need to be paid and that would come out of any sort of profit that you may gain.” Hermione said looking very proud of herself.

George sat there for a moment mulling it all over and trying to think of how he could somehow incorporate what she had just said into Fred and his tiny store. They had talked about expanding to places like Hogsmeade and other magic villages.

“What if we wanted to expand?” George asked.

Hermione thought for a moment. “I have no clue, I haven’t got up to that part yet.” George laughed.

“What’s so funny?” Hermione asked looking confused.

“Hermione you didn’t have to try and find a way to fix those things for us. We’ve already done all the research on those things and we’ve discussed on expanding Weasley’s Wizard Wheezers since a little after Christmas, but we want to get all the plans drawn up before we even attempt to do anything on that scale.” George said leaning back in his chair with a smile.

Hermione smiled, she liked to see George like this, and he was so sure and confident in his brother, his business and himself. It was times like these that George showed how truly intelligent he was, I guess you could say that Fred and George just weren’t school smart. They didn’t work well in the school environment. But who could blame them not everyone is made to be able to sit at a desk six to seven hours a day doing nothing else but writing, reading and testing your memory here and there.

“What?” George asked with a frown. “Do I have something on my face?”

“What?” Hermione asked coming out of her thoughts.

“You were staring at me.” George said with a crooked smile. Hermione blushed as she realised while she had been thinking about him that she had been staring.

“Sorry.” Hermione muttered.

“Well think about it this way at least you were looking at me and not some random guy… who knows I may turn out to be the jealous type.” George said teasingly making Hermione laugh.

“You the jealous type? I don’t think so, I’d have to see it to believe it.” Hermione said with a smile on her face.

“Hey Ginny, what are you up to?” Harry asked coming into her bedroom to find Ginny sitting on her bedroom floor books all around her, her back to the side of her bed.

“Nothing much finishing holiday homework, why?” Ginny asked sitting back and looking at Harry.

“Nothing.” Harry said sitting down next to her.

“Ahuh, and I’m an O grade witch in Divination.”

“What are you hiding?” Harry asked after a long silence.

“What do you mean?” Ginny asked not confused like Harry thought but worried that he had figured it out, “I’m not hiding anything, other than probably a few of Fred and George’s products in my room from mum.”

“No I don’t mean hiding a physical thing, I think you keeping a secret for someone.” Harry said picking up her hand.

“What would make you say that?” Ginny asked on a gulp.

“Well let’s see, you’ve disappeared a few times now over the holidays claiming that you’re going to Hermione’s but being very evasive when you get back. Whenever Fred or George visit you three are whispering among the three of you.” Harry said now looking at her face and looking for a sign she knew what he was talking about, and there it was clear as day that little guilty look.

“I can’t tell you.” Ginny said after a long silence. “Harry you have to understand that it isn’t my secret to tell and it could cause all sorts of damage if anyone else that we knew where to find out. Because it may not be that much of a secret if they do and so many bad things could happen if that was to happen.”

Harry smiled at Ginny, he loved how loyal she was and how stubborn she could be but he could tell by the look on her face that if this secret was to get out the effects would be devastating.

“Okay Ginny, but just tell me a thing or two.” Harry said pulling her into a hug.

“I’m not going to promise anything.” Ginny said, mostly because she couldn’t, because it could include a piece of information that may give everything away. If Ron where to find out, only Merlin know what would happen.

“Would it have any major impact on anyone I know and love, but not hit me directly?” Harry asked.

Ginny thought about this for a moment, there shouldn’t be too much harm in giving him that one. “It does concern people you know and love, but there is no chance of it hitting you.” Ginny said with a smile as she curled up against his chest.

Harry nodded and thought for a moment. “Does this secret have anything to do with why Hermione has been acting so strange ever since Halloween?”

Ginny stiffened; Harry had his answer in that small movement. “I can’t answer that.”

“Okay, it was worth asking.” Harry said and gave the top of Ginny’s head a kiss.

Hermione was sat on her couch reading when the door bell rang. Hermione frowned as she stood, she wasn’t expecting anyone and anyone who would usually visit wouldn’t knock they would just walk right in and start yelling that they were there. But when Hermione opened the front door she got the shock of her life.

“HARRY!!!!” Hermione yelled and jumped at him. Harry laughed he wrapped his arms around her waist and lifted her off the ground. He had grown that little bit taller yet and again so in order for her to wrap her arms around his neck he needed to pick her up.

“Happy to see me?” Harry asked still chuckling when he let her go and she led him inside.

“Are you kidding me, I haven’t seen you in ages of cause I’m happy to see you.” Hermione said smiling happily.

“Do you want a drink?” Hermione asked leading him into the kitchen.

“Sure,” Harry said as he sat at the kitchen counter. Hermione moved around the kitchen and put the kettle on as Harry took a look around him. “You know this is the first time I’ve been here.”

Hermione’s head snapped up. “Really?”

“Yeah, it’s nothing like I imagined, but then I guessed a normal muggle house is my aunt and uncle’s; and that’s saying a lot.”

Hermione laughed. “Yeah well, we aren’t exactly clean freaks but we like things orderly.”

“I can tell.” Harry said with a chuckle, “So what have you been up to? I haven’t even got a letter from you since beginning of the holidays, I have no idea what is going on with you these days.”

Hermione smiled, “I’ve been keeping myself busy, and I finished my holiday homework pretty quick so I’ve just been doing my usual reading among other things. What have you guys been up to at the Burrow?”

“Nothing much Ron’s being a moody shit as usual.” Harry said with a smile, “But I guess I got lucky having Ginny down the hall to talk to when things get unbearable.”

“Ginny told me that he was sulking but I didn’t know he was being that bad.” Hermione said with surprise.

“Yeah well I don’t know what has gotten into him.” Harry said and took a sip of his tea, “Nice thanks.”

“No problem.”

“Hermione can I ask you something personal?” Harry asked fiddling with his tea cup.

Hermione watched him before saying, “Sure Harry you shouldn’t have to feel like you have to ask.”

“Yeah well I kinda… anyway,” Harry said shaking his head. “I was just wondering if there was anything you wanted to tell me cause you’ve been acting strange ever since Halloween and I’ve been worrying about you. Hermione you’re the closest thing I have to a sister, I guess I worry over much, you’re my family.” Hermione’s eyes filled with tears, Harry noticed this and moved around the counter and gave her a hug. “I’m sorry I didn’t mean to make you upset.”

“No it’s not that it’s just that I’ve been wanting to tell you and Ron ever since I found out and I’ve tried a million time but I just haven’t been able to find the words and there never seemed to be a right time or there were too many people around to overhear or…”

“Hermione it’s okay.” Harry said smiling and gave her a tight squeeze.

“Um… Harry you might want to sit down for this.” Hermione said quietly moving out of his arms.

“What ever it is it can’t be that bad.” Harry said with a reassuring smile.

“Oh trust me on this you’re going to want to sit down for this one.” Hermione said with a weary smile.

Harry frowning and they moved to the kitchen table. “Okay I’m just going to say it.” Hermione took a deep breath and looked Harry in the eye. “I have a son. His name is Dylan Robert Granger.” Hermione sat and watch Harry as he stared at her for what seemed like eternity.

Just as Harry went to open his mouth, George walked into the kitchen with a sleeping Dylan in his arms. Harry’s eyes went wide at the look of George with a baby in his arms. George stopped dead when he saw Harry.

“Ah… I’m guessing I’m having bad timing.” George said quietly.

“Umm… George you may have had perfect timing.” Hermione said taking the sleeping baby from his arms so that he could put the collapsible play pen against the wall and go into the kitchen to get a drink.

“Why didn’t you tell me?” were the first words out of Harry’s mouth.

“I tried, I even tried telling Ron. But that hasn’t happened.” Hermione grumbled.

“Who’s the father?” Harry asked looking at Dylan then George.

“You know who the father is Harry, and it’s not George, even though he’s the closest thing Dylan has to a father.”

Harry sat at the kitchen table silently. “Ron!” Harry’s eyes went wide and stared at Hermione. “Well at least he doesn’t look like the bastard.” Harry said as an afterthought.

This made both Hermione and George start to laugh. George moved over to the table and sat beside Hermione after giving her a quick kiss.

“Hang on!” Harry said staring at the two. “Ron is the father, and I’m guessing George finally grew some balls and told you how he felt so I’m guessing he’s known about Dylan for a while now.”

“He was there when Dylan was born.” Hermione said quietly “Ginny was the first person to find out, after Madam Pomfrey told me I was pregnant.”

“How did you hide the tummy?” Harry asked after they had relaxed for a while and were talking as if he hadn’t just found out his best friend had impregnated his other best friend (A/N: doesn’t that just sound so… I can’t think of the word, but nauseating will have to do. Sorry back to the story).

“A charm that Professor McGonagall gave me, for when I started to get really big.” Hermione said with a smile.

Harry smiled and watched her and George, she looked the happiest he had ever seen her. Harry decided then and there that it would most likely be best that Ron never find out that Hermione had his son otherwise he would most likely destroy all happiness that Hermione had built within her new little family.

“Hermione can I tell you something.” Harry said seriously.

“You can’t tell Ron.” Harry said with one of the most serious looks Hermione had ever seen on his face.

“What why?” Hermione asked wide eyed.

“Hermione its Ron; Things won’t get better if you tell him they will only get worse. He’ll hate you for not telling him, he’ll hate George for being the one there and for having your heart instead of him. I know he’s my best mate, but saying that I know him pretty well and unfortunately I have to say that no good could possibly come from you telling him that Dylan is his.” Harry looked saddened by that fact but stood by what he said.

“Harry…” Hermione whispered

“Look, when the time comes that you introduce him to the Weasley clan, he’ll be accepted by everyone with open arms except Ron he will question everything about him, but it would likely depend on your relationship as to whether you say he’s George’s and not Ron’s as you said earlier: George is the closest thing Dylan has to a father.”

Hermione and George looked at each other and after a while Hermione stood up and gave Harry a hug and started to cry. “Hey what’s with the crying?” Harry asked looking worried.

“Oh, Harry… I’ve been so worried; I think you just said everything that I needed to hear. Thank you so much Harry.”
