She sat outside of Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour enjoying a sundae. Smiling as she thought about that first kiss. Ron was still inside with their daughter Rose as she was carefully picking out what flavor she wanted for herself. They had made their way to Diagon Alley that day in order to buy school supplies for Rose as she would be started her first year at Hogwarts on September 1st. Hermione was a little anxious about meeting the train. She knew they would be running into Draco and his wife Astoria. Their son Scorpius was attending Hogwarts as well. Running into the Malfoys was always an awkward event but the kids got along when it did happen.
"Mione," Ron had interrupted her thoughts. "You alright?"
"Yes. I was just thinking about things I wanted to read up on while Rose is away."
Rose popped from behind her father. She had the fiery red hair like the rest of the Weasleys, but she had Hermione's eyes and brain.
"I decided on strawberry ice cream today. Would you like a taste?"
"No thank you dear." Hermione wasn't even sure she would finish her own sundae. "We need to head over to Ollivander's to get your wand and then we'll be done with shopping."
At that moment Draco and Astoria were coming up the road. As they approached Astoria began chatting away with Ron. They got on alright as long as the topics were light. Hermione was grateful for it today as she needed to talk with Draco about something.
"Draco, it's good to see you. We were just about to stop at Ollivander's for Rose's first wand."
"Granger, we were headed there as well."
"Can we talk along the way? I have something to discuss with you."
Astoria had already led Ron ahead of them so they would be able to have a somewhat private talk.
"I need your help with some research."
"Oh really?!" Draco couldn't help but laugh to himself. Hermione wasn't really one to ask for help.
"Well, you see." Hermione's face was turning pink. "Things have been lacking between Ron and I. The passion just doesn't seem to be there anymore. I keep thinking about - "
"Our first kiss?"
"Precisely. I need your help in finding charms or potions that can help produce that passion in my marriage."
"I don't think you need my help with the research Granger. I must say, if Weasley can't satisfy you then maybe you should just seek attention elsewhere."
"MALFOY! I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU WOULD SUGGEST SUCH A THING!"
Her yelling was attracting a little bit of attention. Ron and Astoria were already in the shop so they didn't hear the commotion. She knew he had a point though. The thought was tempting. She couldn't deny it.
"Who do you suggest I turn to then?"
"Well," he paused for a moment, "there's always me."
"So are you. Astoria turns her head at anything I do. She's become quite submissive as Scorpius has gotten older. She understands what it means to be part of the Malfoy family."
"You cheat on her, and she knows it?"
Hermione couldn't believe what she was hearing. Actually she could believe that he cheated. It was his offer that caught her off guard. Before Draco could respond Ron, Astoria, Rose, and Scorpius exited the shop with their new wands. They said good bye and went their separate ways. Rose wouldn't stop talking until they got her home and into bed.
Ron could tell Hermione was distracted so he glanced over the Daily Prophet before heading to bed himself. Hermione went to grab one of the books she purchased for herself that day. When she opened it a piece of parchment slipped out. It had unmistakable scrawling. It read: "Think it over and let me know your decision when we meet at King's Crossing." She couldn't help but analyze every outcome possible with this proposal.
The next week went by fast and things still hadn't changed between Ron and herself. She had decided to accept Draco's offer. Which for some reason gave her butterflies instead of making her nervous. She couldn't imagine how they would sneak off, or rather how she would. Draco said himself that Astoria would just turn her head the other way.
Hermione was so busy thinking that she didn't even realize they had arrived at the station. They helped Rose onto Platform 9¾. Rose immediately saw Scorpius and made him promise to sit with her on the train.
"I'm going to miss you Mum. You too dad." Rose was trying not to tear up as she told them good bye.
"We'll see you for the holidays." Ron replied.
"Stay out of trouble and put your studies first." Hermione couldn't help but worry, neither could Ron.
Rose and Scorpius climbed onto the train. They waved as it pulled out of the train station.
"Ron, I need to have a word with Draco real quick if you don't mind."
"I don't understand why you're so nice to him Mione. Especially after the way he treated you in school. I mean Astoria is pleasant, but still."
"It will be fine, and you know he's changed."
"I guess. I'll just meet you at the car."
As Ron headed to the car the Malfoy's approached her. Astoria kissed Draco on the cheek and excused herself seeing that she wasn't wanted around for this conversation. The butterflies started again as Draco greeted her.
"I've made a decision."
"Good to hear Granger. I was starting to think you wouldn't accept."
"I haven't even told you what I decided."
"I will accept, but we have to figure out how to get away without Ron being suspicious."
Draco leaned in close and whispered into her ear. "I'm already taking care of that. I'll send an owl when the arrangements are complete."
