I was staring at myself in the mirror not really able to believe it was me, the strapless white dress was a corsetted top, silk laces tied the back tight, and the train went for what I thought was miles behind me. Small diamonds accented both the waist and hemline, and also diamonds dotted the veil. An intricate design of vines and flowers adorned the bodice, and I ran my hands down my sides, and couldn’t really believe the beautiful girl in the mirror was me. The necklace Draco had given me as his first gift hung around my neck. My mother stood behind me smiling, a real smile, and than Alex and my father came in. Alex was immediately speechless.
“Carlie, my little girl, when did you grow up.” my father hugged me and kissed my forehead, he was crying and he didn’t care that we all saw.
Next Alex hugged me, “You look amazing Car, better hope Draco remembers how to speak when he sees you.”
I laughed with him, he looked very handsome in his tux, and a year or so older. The magical photographer flitted around taking photos for about five minutes before my mother saw the time and we had to get to the Malfoy Manor, where the photographer took more photos, of us of the Malfoy’s, of both families together minus Draco and myself. Than it was time for the ceremony. Everyone took their places, it seemed so little time before it was my turn to enter the Malfoy’s rose garden with my father.
He leaned over and whispered, “I am so proud of you and I love you so much.”
I smiled weakly at him as the magical curtain moved to reveal all the guests, mum, the Malfoy’s, Alex, my maid-of-honor my cousin Brittany, the minister, Harry, and of course Draco.
I know my jaw dropped for at least a few seconds when the curtain moved, I couldn’t help it. Alex nudged me which brought me back to reality. She was the most beautiful girl I had ever seen, well even more so than she usually was. I had thought the reception area was magnificent with the white silk cover chaired, the roses enchanted to change from red to white to pink, the wooden altar carved with vines and roses, small white doves flying about, the plush carpet that made the aisle, and the sun shining so brightly, but nothing would ever compare to her at this moment. Stephan put her hand in mine, nodded in a very dignified manor, and than went and sat next to his wife. The minister began and everyone listened intently and it quickly came time for our vows. My turn first…
“Well Car, what is there to really say, honestly nothing. I thought so hard I wanted these to be the best wedding vows ever written, the most beautiful, the most poetic, the most eloquent, because that is what you deserve, no less than perfect, no less than the very best. But I sat for hours throwing away copy after copy, and wracking my brain for exactly what to say. How to capture the butterflies in my stomach when you smile, how to capture the warmth I feel when you laugh, how to capture the intense and passionate love I know I will always feel for you. And eventually I realized that was not possible, it’s not possible to capture how each and every memory, each and every moment with you makes me the happiest man on Earth, and how I will never ever stop loving you, there aren’t the words, and there definitely aren’t nearly enough. So I hope this will suffice, I love you Carlie with all that I am now and forever.”
She squeezed my hands tighter as she began to say her vows….
“Well Draco I had the opposite problem, I had far too much to write down, I mean we would’ve been here for days,” the guests laughed and I continued, “I wanted to talk about how we ended up together over a bet, wanted to talk about how I got this necklace,” I fingered the necklace and smiled, “I wanted to talk about the fights, and the making up, I wanted to talk about every little thing that made our love what it is, so strong, so amazing, such a bond that cannot be broken. Than I realized no one has the time to listen to me talk that long. Listen to me gush about how cute you are when you let me get my way, how sweet you are, and how safe you make me feel. Listen to me as I go on about what good care you take of me, and how I know that you will always be this good to me. Listen to me while I go on about how you are my soul mate and no one makes me smile, or laugh, or love as much as you do. So Draco I adore you, love you from now until the end of time, I want to be by your side, and be as happy as I am. Because I know thirty years from now I won’t love you as much as I do, but it will be so much greater that I cannot even describe it now.”
Draco was crying, so was I, he leaned over and kissed me before the minister said, and I could hear sniffles from the crowd. Draco stopped kissing me and we let the minister finished let the ceremony finish, we kissed each other when he said this time, and I heard the fireworks go off, me and Draco looked up and the doves had formed a heart above us and fireworks in the shapes of hearts, rings, and a kissing couple filled the sky. Draco hugged me tight, and than I felt two more arms, Alex, hugging both of us.
“I hope your speech is pretty damn good to follow us there.” Draco joked.
“Yeah you two are a tough act to follow.” he sniffled and I could see the tears in the corner of his eyes.
Me and Draco than walked hand in hand into Malfoy Manor where the reception was to be held. The inside was decorated with white roses and lilies, a gorgeous ice sculpture of two swans making a heart sat behind mine and Draco’s chairs at the wedding party table, glass ornaments of hearts and cherubs hung from the ceiling it was absolutely amazing. Draco held my hand people hugged us and cried and told stories of us as kids, even my cold as stone mother had tears in her eyes as she hugged me. Alex hugged me and refused to let go so the next person could, he hugged me for about five minutes and than finally let go and hugged Draco and shook his hand and went over to Kirsty who looked beautiful in a lavender dress with spaghetti straps and it ended just below her knees, it looked good with her tan, her hair, and her doe like brown eyes. After all the congratulations and hugs and tears Draco led me to the dance floor for our first dance as husband and wife. “Iris” by the Goo Goo Dolls began to play.
And I'd give up forever to touch you
Cause I know that you feel me somehow
You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be
And I don't want to go home right now
Draco held me close and kissed my cheek. I could feel a tear hit my shoulder as I danced and I knew he was crying again. He held me so tight, but it felt good, and we danced together until the song ended, and than he kissed me so passionately and I kissed him back. Than my father came over.
“Draco may I please dance with your beautiful wife.” he asked.
“Of course Mr. Reeve.” and he bowed and walked over to Alex and Kirsty.
Another muggle song began to play “Butterfly Kisses” by Bob Carlisle. My dad kind of seemed to stare off into space as the song began and played. As it came to it’s conclusion I looked up at him.
She'll change her name today
She'll make a promise and I'll give her away
Standing in the bride room just staring at her
She asked me what I'm thinkin'
And I said I'm not sure
I just feel like I'm loosin' my baby girl
There stood my gruff and tough father looking down at me crying. I hugged him close as the song ended.
“I love you Carlie.”
“I love you too Dad.”
He kissed my cheek and walked off of the dance floor wiping his eyes and than Alex came over.
“Well Mrs. Malfoy one dance will your brother?”
I laughed, “Of course Alex.”
But more than anything, more than anything,
My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to,
Your dreams stay big, and your worries stay small.
I knew Alex was crying too, everyone crying, and I smiled to myself. I had never ever seen Alex cry, but he did right now and as “My Wish” by Rascal Flatts come to an end he kept dancing with me, and than hugged me tight and we walked over to Draco and Kirsty.
