"Love is that condition in which the happiness of another person is essential to your own." - Robert Heinlein
The crack of the bones in my nose breaking echoed in my ears as Rose’s fist collided with it. Pain shot through my nose and blood poured from it. My hands clutched at it to try to stop the never-ending flow.
“Rose!” Al yelled at his cousin. He rushed to my side to make sure I was okay.
Rose had punched me before – many times, in fact. I knew it was coming. She hates it when I grab her arm like I did.
I watched her march away with Roxy following close behind.
“She shouldn’t have punched you.” Al said. The look on his face told me he was going to be having a talk with Rose later.
I spit blood out of my mouth. “I’m fine. It was worth it.”
Al shook his head at me. “You drive her crazy.”
I smirked. “I know. It’s so much fun to make her mad.”
Al rolled his eyes at me. “The way to a girl’s heart is not through annoying her to death.”
I spit more blood out of my mouth. “She’s in love with me,” I said confidently, “She just doesn’t know it yet. One day she’ll figure it out.”
“If she doesn’t kill you first.”
I ignored him and gingerly touched my broken nose. I winced in pain and Al grabbed my arm.
“I’m taking you to the hospital wing.” His tone made it clear that he wouldn’t take no for an answer.
I let him drag me away to my death. “That crazy old lady is evil, pure evil,” I protested.
“Stop being so dramatic.” Al rolled his eyes.
I smirked. “How are your girl troubles going?” I asked him.
He scowled and smacked me on the back of my head.
“Not so good then?” I smirked my smirk that Rose hates so much.
“She doesn’t even know I exist.” He frowned.
“Of course she does. What girl can resist the Potter charm?” I grinned and nudged him playfully in the side.
“She can,” Al sighed and ran his hand through his messy black hair.
He was head over heels for Mackenzie Hamilton, but she could care less about him. I don’t think she’s worth it but I’m not going to tell Al that. If he wants to waste his life chasing a girl who will never care, then I’ll let him. He’ll figure it out eventually.
“She’ll fall for you, she’d be crazy not to,” I lied. She would never fall for him. He smiled sadly at me; he could see right through my lie.
We turned the corner and there was the hospital wing. I considered running but the look on Al’s face made me keep walking. I scowled at him. Madam Pomfrey was crazy. It was a miracle she was still alive. She hated me. I did nothing to her and she still hates me. I have no idea why.
She gave me a dirty look the moment we walked in and she saw me covered in blood. Twenty minutes and a lecture later I dragged Al out of there as fast as I could before she had the chance to start lecturing me again.
Al’s stomach gave a very loud growl. I smirked at him and raised my eyebrows. He rolled his eyes.
“I missed breakfast,” He shrugged.
That’s when I heard it. Her bell-like laughter floated through my ears. Rose pulled her curly, bright red hair that she hated so much into a ponytail. Her best friend Lex said something to her. Rose smiled brightly and laughed again. Lex looped her arm through Rose’s. She looked over at me and leaned over to whisper in Rose’s ear. Rose scowled and glared at me. I smirked back at her and took a step forward. Al grabbed my arm to hold me back.
“Do you want to have to go to the hospital wing twice in one day?” He asked.
“She’s not going to send me to the hospital wing again,” I told him as I jerked my arm out of his grasp. He shook his head at me and walked away. He didn’t want to have to be the peacemaker again.
“What do you want?” Rose asked. She glared up at me and put her hands on her hips.
I smirked at her and leaned against the wall. She is so beautiful when she’s angry. A curl fell out of her ponytail. She angrily brushed it out of her eyes.
“What do you think I want, Rosie?” I asked her. I tugged on the curl that fell out of her ponytail. She smacked my hand away and scowled at me again.
“Go away,” She demanded through clenched teeth.
I smirked. I could picture steam coming out of her ears.
“Why would I do that, Rosie?” I cocked my head to my side, enjoying the red flush that had spread across her cheeks.
She took a threatening step forward but I held my ground. She reached in her robes for her wand. Lex grabbed her arm and started to pull her away.
“We’re going to be late to class,” She told Rose, her voice slightly frantic.
Class didn’t start for another fifteen minutes. Lex was just trying to keep Rose from hexing me. Rose shot me a look of pure hatred before marching away with Lex. Lex turned around and sent a smile my way before turning back to Rose.
I watched Rose stalk off until she was out of my sight. One day she will wake up and realize how much she loves me. One day Rose Weasley will fall for me, I know she will.
I ran to keep up with Rose. She was muttering words that I couldn’t quite comprehend, but I was sure they were about Scorpius.
“Like I said,” I began. Her head snapped up to look at me. “You’d make an interesting couple.”
She groaned and pushed a few of her loose curls out of her face. “Scorpius and I will never be a couple. I’m going to kill him,” She made a weird strangled noise. “He drives me crazy. I just want him to leave me alone.
They really would make a perfect couple. Rose is fiery and easily angered. Scorpius is calm and collected. They would balance each other perfectly – that is, if Rose didn’t kill him first. Scorpius is crazy for Rose; I figured that out in fourth year. He could even possibly love her. I think she loves him too, but she’s just too stubborn to see it. If he didn’t annoy her so much maybe she would see how much he cares about her.
I ignored her angry ranting and steered her toward our next class. She didn’t miss a word. She called Scorpius quite a few things that I’m sure would have made her mother ground her for the rest of her life if she heard Rose say them.
“Rose,” I yelled to get her attention. She finally stopped her ranting and looked at me. “Maybe Roxy and Lily are right. Maybe a boyfriend would distract you from Scorpius.” Or it could make her realize how desperately in love she was with him.
She opened her mouth to protest but I clamped my hand over her mouth before she could. She glared daggers at me. “It’s just a suggestion. It could stop Scorpius from annoying you.” Or it could make it worse. Scorpius could do something really stupid and make Rose hate him or make her see how perfect they are together.
I definitely like option two better.
Rose rolled her eyes and glared at me. She wiggled out of my grasp and marched away with her arms crossed tightly over her chest. I shook my head at her and followed. Scorpius and Rose were meant to be together. Rose will figure it out eventually. She just needs a push in the right direction and I’m going to have to give her that push.
