Rose was walking down the train corridors with Albus looking for a compartment. After they had been looking for a long time, they finally came across a compartment that only had one other person inside. That person was Scorpuis Malfoy. Rose being the daughter of the famous Hermione granger, knocked and went inside with Albus. She was about to introduce herself to the reading blond, when James passed by outside and saw the. He came into the compartment and started to yell at her.
“What do you think you are doing?!” he hollered, “Do you have any idea who he is?!”
“Of course I know who he is. Who do you think you are, that you can come and yell at me when I was only looking for a compartment?” Rose stated coldly.
“Uhh…Well…ummm…if that’s the case then go on…Ummmm. Sorry I yelled at you Rose. See both of you later.” James said as he turned to leave as fast as he could.
“Oh! Hello! I’m sorry about that. My older cousin can be a real butthead sometimes. By the way, My name is Rose Weasley and this is my younger cousin Albus Potter. As you heard, could we stay in this compartment with you?” Rose asked after quickly explaining.
Scorpuis slowly marked his page and put his book down. After a few seconds his shocked expression changed form shock to joy.
“Sure! Why not? I could really use the company. I was starting to feel like I should have brought another book because it was going to be a long lonely ride.” Scorpuis said truthfully.
Rose and Albus sat down and started talking to Scorpuis, trying to get to know him better, and in Scorpuis’ case getting to know Albus and Rose better as well.
“What house do you think you’ll be in?” Rose asked the boys, “I’m hoping that I’ll be in Gryffindor, like my mum and dad. My Dad’s family has been in Gryffindor for centuries, and they say that Albus Dumbledore was in Gryffindor too.”
“I’ve heard that Gryffindor has won the house cup 25 years in a row?” Albus exclaimed, my Grandparents on both sides of my family have been in Gryffindor for centuries too!”
“WOW! From what you’re telling me, I hope that I’m in Gryffindor too, but my family has been in Slytherin for centuries on both sides of my family.” Scorpuis said a little worried, “At least, that’s what my father said. I never met my mother. It looks like the choice of house depends on what house most on your family was in.”
Scorpuis looked sad about that. He was really starting to like Albus and Rose. They had become his very first friends and he didn’t want to be separated from them because of their house. He knew that as a rule Gryffindors and Slytherins were not allowed to be friends with each other because of old prejudices. Albus saw how sad Scorpuis had become and tried to reassure him.
“That’s not true. Don’t worry, I’, scared that I’ll be in Slytherin. My dad had that same problem when he went to Hogwarts, and before I boarded the train he told me that the sorting hat considers you opinion on where you want to go.” Albus informed him, “Maybe you won’t be sorted into Slytherin. I’m sorry about your mom. What happened to her?”
“I don’t really know. All my dad ever told me was that a few months after I was born, she had run off within the week.” He said, “she was never seen again by anybody. I never really miss her, since I never met her. Besides My father is really great and I don’t feel like I’ve missed out on a mother since my grandmother helped my dad raise me. For all intents and purposes she is my mother.”
During the boys conversation Rose had been wondering why James had had such a strong reaction to them talking to Scorpuis. When Scorpuis had mentioned Slytherin, it had triggered a memory of what her father had told her about what Draco Malfoy had done to her parents when they were in school. She decided not to mention this to either of the boys and to give him a chance to see if he was going to be like his father.
Soon after they noticed that it had gotten dark outside, they started to change into their robes. As soon as they were done changing, the train came to a stop and they got out. As traditional, Hagrid greeted the first years and took them to Hogwarts by boat. When they got there, Professor Lovegood came and led the students into the great Hall, where all the older students were waiting and facing forward.
Rose, Scorpuis, Albus, and all the other first years were greeted by the marvelous sight that took their breath away. Near the ceiling, all throughout the hall, there were cream colored candles floating in mid air providing all the light. Albus and rose had heard about Hogwarts from James and Teddy, but they were still amazed by the sight of the beautiful enchanted ceiling, which was currently showing an amazing starry night.
As soon as all the first years got to the front, they saw the old sorting hat sitting on a stool with Professor Lovegood standing next to it. In her hands was a scroll of parchment. Soon after the sorting hat was singing its song and when it was done, professor Lovegood waited a moment for everybody to quiet down before she called out any names. After a few minuets, she called out:
Scorpuis walked slowly up to the stool and quickly put on the hat. He muttered softly “I don’t want to be in Slytherin Please don’t put me in Slytherin.”
“So you don’t want to be in Slytherin? I’ve never seen anything like this in a Malfoy! You have nothing to worry about, even though all of your ancestors were in Slytherin, you certainly don’t belong there. Some people are not going to be happy about this, but you truly belong with the brave and courageous. This means that you are going to GRIFFRNDOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
The whole conversation had happened in no more then five seconds. Scorpuis took off the hat and went over to the Gryffindor table, were everybody was shocked that a Malfoy had not been put in Slytherin and was in their house instead.
After what had felt like another eternity to Rose and Albus, another one of them was called up.
Suddenly everybody in the hall was instantly quiet, when they saw that Albus was the exact image of one of the Wizarding World’s most beloved heroes, his father, Harry Potter. Even if they had not heard when the Professor had called his name, there was no doubt at all that he was the sun of Harry Potter. Albus slowly went up to the stool and put on the hat. It immediately told him:
“Welcome Mr. Potter. You are like your father as much as your brother is like your late grandfather. You both were scared of being put in Slytherin. However, unlike your dear father, there is absolutely no Slytherin blood in you. You are the pure definition of a … …GRYFFINDOR!!!!!!!”
Albus was instantly relieved. He quickly took off the hat with an enormous smile on his face and went over to join Scorpuis at the Gryffindor table, where everybody was cheering so loud that it gave most people a headache and it took them quite a while to calm back down.
Once everybody had calmed down, the sorting continued. Rose started to feel like she was never going to be called finally Professor Lovegood called out:
She walked confidently up to the stool as fast as she dared without running up and put on the hat. It said to her:
“A Weasley! Will they ever stop coming? Please don’t take offence dear, it’s just that I’ve sorted so many of you that quite frankly I can getting tired of it. OH!...... I see that you are the lovely daughter of one of the most talented and smart student that Hogwarts have ever had…So…I see that you’ve inherited you mother’s love of knowledge and perseverance. Where should you go? You also have a lot of loyalty and bravery. Hmmm… Ravenclaw of Gryffindor? Well I see that you prefer to be with the rest of your family and new friend… Ok then you’ll be in…… GRYFFINDOR!!!”
As soon as the last person was sorted, the feast began. Al the new students were once again astonished by the amount of food there was as well as the variety. Everybody ate, happy to be back at school and talked about their summers. When everybody was dismissed, a prefect came and took all of the Gryffindor students to their common room and explained all of the rules. Rose Albus, and Scorpuis stayed for a while after they were dismissed, to talk to James and his friends. When they went to bed, Rose wrote a letter to her parents.
Dear Mum and Dad,
I’ve had the most marvelous first day. I can really see why you miss it so much. After we left on the train, we (Albus and I) met a really nice boy.. now before I tell you who he is, Mum please try to keep Dad calm. His name is Scorpuis Malfoy. I know what his father did to you guys when you were in school, but please calm down, it will do you no good to over react. I just want to give him a chance to prove that he is nothing like his father. So far he has proven that he is nothing like his father. I’ll be extremely careful so don’t worry about me. A little into the feast, Professors Lovegood and McGonagall came by our table to wish us luck and they said to tell you guys and uncle Harry and Aunt Ginny hello and that they will see you soon.
Anyway, the three of us were sorted onto Gryffindor. The food was great, but not very good compared to your cooking Mum. That’s probably the biggest thing I’m going to miss apart from spending time together as a family.
It’s getting late now. I think I’ll go to bed now. Good night Mum, Dad, and Hugo! I love you all. Tell Hugp I miss him already and miss fighting with him too. When you see Ma and Pa Weasley, please tell them Hi for me and that I love them. I’ll write to you as soon as anything interesting happends. Love you guys!
Hugs and Kisses,
Rose gave the letter to her owl and got ready for bed, wondering what she would learn tomorrow and what the future in general would bring.
